Gwyar crossed his arms over his chest, lightly cocking his head as he listened to the other man speak.

Oh, fine. He would play the Watson to Navy's Holmes. Someone had to make questions and posit counter arguments, after all.

"Is it?" He asked simply. "It gives people hope, perhaps, but pokemon of legend are powerful regardless of whether we remember them or not, no?"

He leaned back against one of the bookcases.

"Zacian and Zamacenta were entirely forgotten by Galar." He said. "Swallowed by history, turned into a singular hero— a human hero."

In a sense, the people of Galar had stolen both the glory and the strength of the Hero duo for themselves.

"Do you believe this might've weakened them by the time they arrived at Hoenn?"

Gwyar smiles, at the man, cocking his head.

"Whatever do you mean?." Surely Navy didn't believe water represented some sort of impassable roadblock for pokemon such as them.

As the younger man builds on his thoughts however, Gwyar wonders if he's disoriented.

"Galar had all but forgotten that they even existed, Sheriff. None were on the look out for them." Large did not mean conspicuous. If they had managed to remain unseen for thousands of years, they wouldn't be caught now just because they decided to step out of the woods.

Turning his gaze back to the texts once again, Gwyar considered Calyrex, now that Navy had mentioned him— and then considered the text again.

Some may argue that Pokemon can also tap into the same tapestry of myth creation and yet, I remain skeptical of the degree in which they can share...

"The High King was quite the storyteller himself, wasn't he?" He noted.

It seemed like their lived experience would've thrown a wrench into the author of the paper's work. How amusing.

Gwyar's nose wrinkled, good old brit galar spirit rising to the surface. "From Unovan cinema? Perish the thought."

Bleh!

On more serious topics, however—

"...? It seemed to me that he merely lacked the faculties to communicate without proxy." He suggested.

Most pokemon did not possess the proper physiological faculties to perform human speech. Calyrex was quite impressive in his ability to commandeer several humans like sock poppets to communicate with others.

He considered the detective's new hypothesis, rubbing at his chin thoughtfully as he hummed.

"Whatever it was, the treasures of ruin coveted it as well." He mused, brows knitting together as his eyes fluttered shut. "And most likely got it, too."

The ruins had been emptied by the time they all came to. They had all been trapped in Galar, the hero duo included— but not the treasures of ruin.

Never once did they see them during the their 20 years in Galar.

"I wonder if Councilwoman Livy's 'partner' would be willing to answer any questions." He said wryly, releasing a sigh.

"Same reason as any other?" He offered simply, licking at his thumb to flip the page. "Why has Groudon sided with the league? Why has Cobalion? Why has Tapu Koko?"

Certainly not because they gave a damn about the people of Hoenn.

"Pokemon of legend continue to gather in Hoenn. Perhaps the choice between league and rocket is more arbitrary for them than we care to admit." More than any logic or moral, whoever got to the legendary first —without pissing them off— seemed to matter a lot in these instances. "At any rate, fighting us at every turn is impossible with our sheer numbers. Joining hands with us in our petty conflicts while pushing their chosen to pursue their own interests isn't a bad idea."

And of course, there was always the possibility the fish, or any other legendary really, was just using them now while planning to discard them later.

It was half amusing, half bemusing to see the sheriff conclude that no answers would be found here, and then immediately pivot to asking more questions Gwyar couldn't possibly have answers for either.

"Generally, I avoid making baseless conjectures." He said wryly, before rolling his neck and taking a seat at the table, rubbing at his chin thoughtfully. "But very well— allow me to make some poorly educated guesses. Why this, why now..."

He considered the obvious conclusions.

"It could be that they were indisposed until now." Read: Asleep/sealed away/whatever.

"Alternatively, perhaps things have worsened to such an extent with the arrival of the treasures of ruin that they finally decided to intervene in matters they previously had no interests in." Read: Hoenn's mess as a whole.

"Perhaps the Dark Triad somehow influenced these happenings." Read: You never know with interdimensional all-knowing God-chaining ninjas.

"Perhaps Zacian and Zamacenta do not necessarily perceive the Black Knight, Necrozma, as an enemy." Read: They had both fought against eternatus in ages past... and, curiously, Zacian and Zamacenta's equipment was made from the same material as Necrozma's body.

"Well?"
