Woooosh. The sound of roller coaster wheels on steel tracks announced her passing. The screams of herself and those that sat in the rollercoaster car loudly proclaimed the fun they were having. The only one not screaming was her.

She didn’t know why, but it felt wrong to be sitting here, enjoying herself when she knew that there was so much to be done. Hoenn was not safe, this was all just masking the symptoms.

But the moment the ride came to a halt she put on her feigned smile once more. Not for herself, but for the Minccino by her side. Chipper as always the little creature walked by her side. As the pair combined clearly screamed casual off-work day with Elinor’s casually attire and the Mincinno’s poofy fur.

As they entered what was one of the main paths through the Carnival, it didn’t take long for the little fluffy creature's attention to be diverted to the surrounding sounds and sights. Unfortunately fate would have it so that at this very moment someone recognized her and decided that now was a good time for a chat.

“Hey, you are Elinor Anderson, right?”

It took her less than a second to tense up, put on the facade once more and notice that the person asking was holding a professional looking camera. Combined with the smirk on his lips it was clear that this was a journalist looking for his next big scoop.

She could not lie, it was evident he was certain. “That is correct. But I am not doing any interviews…” She tried to move on but the Journalist was insistent.

“Aww, don’t be like that. I will make it quick. Don’t worry.”

If she hadn’t already been tense before, she certainly was it now.

The last time he'd ever had a snowcone was about... 10? 12 years back? When he'd been but a simple lad hanging out at Heahea Beach with his friends, getting pats on the back for his little brawl with the kahuna's apprentice. That kid had it coming really, and the victory had been all the more sweeter with the cup of ice drowned in syrup.[break][break]

Cut back to now though and he feels like he's choking on all the sugar instead, a spoon idly chipping away at the ice pile until it's naught but a soup of surly colours. Na'au cries a little at the tragic end, her ribbons fluttering about as she taps away at his leg, begging for even a small sip of the horrible mix.[break][break]

At least, until she senses something, her ribbon snapped sharp around his wrist. And he'll move before she begins to tug, avoiding a rather unsightly display of the snow cone spilling all over as he lets his gaze flutter across the crowd. Who is it? What's happening that distresses Na'au so?[break][break]

A voice, quiet and fading amidst the ignorant crowd. Another, slimy and insistent on getting their way. His nose scrunches, a bitter taste just barely masked by the lingering sweetness on his tongue.[break][break]

"Commissioner Goode?! What are you doing here?" Turning his head towards the crowd, he raises his voice just that notch. And the journalist whips around as if he's smelled blood in the water, giving just enough time for a Sylveon to slip by him undetected. And the fairy wraps her ribbons around Elinor Anderson's arms, trying to pull her away as quickly as possible.

Luck was on her side as someone got the attention of the Journalist. As his attention was diverted she felt the ribbons of a Sylveon trying to pull her away.

She followed. The company could only get better. Still, she made sure to watch where she was going, noting down some of the smaller game booths such as a Magikarp-Fishing booth. For future reference just in case this was some elaborate kidnapping.

Not far behind the Minccino followed, hurrying along as best it could.

The art of escaping one's notice is one perfected by countless hours of shirking off duties. Ducking back into the crowd, Emmett only slows down to listen to the muffled tongue clicks, daring to steal a peek at the journalist's face as the realisation of being deceived paints their cheeks a remarkable red. Not a bad shade on them really, he muses.[break][break]

But it'd be unwise for him to stick around, especially with Na'au busy leading some poor woman around the fair without much idea on where they should go. Surely, she must be headed towards some landmark he's pointed out previously. Perhaps, past the Magikarp Fishing booth they'd spotted earlier? Slipping through the crowd with a few quick apologies and friendly smiles, he eventually spots that familiar head of hair, speeding up just that bit as he whistles to catch their attention.[break][break]

The Sylveon, having aimlessly led Elinor Anderson away suddenly stops in her tracks, trilling a little as she turns and begins looking around for her trainer. And finally she'll spot him, chirping as she lets go of the ex-councilwoman's arm and dashes to his side.[break][break]

"Clever girl." Praise comes with a few affectionate scratches behind the ears, his pride at how well Na'au handled things only just displaced by concern for the one out of the loop.[break][break]

"Sorry about all that. Na'au over here just thought you looked like you wanted out." It's a rather sheepish smile that greets Elinor, a rough explanation offered in turn for the trip she's been taken on. "I hope we weren't interrupting anything important?"

They reached their destination, intended or not. Elinor was released by Sylveon. Her gaze followed the chirping Sylveon as it ran to its trainer.

Elinor breathed a sigh of relief when at first glance it seemed it wasn’t yet another admiring fan or Journalist.

Minccino reached her side once more, heaving for air as it did.

“Oh no, don’t worry you didn’t interrupt anything at all.” Elinor spoke, a small thankful smile on her lips. “Honestly, I should thank you.”

“How can I repay the favor?” She asked.

Meanwhile the Minccino by her side caught sight of a performance going on nearby. A carnie on stilts surrounded by a circle of people as they juggled what seemed to be some dangerous objects. A fascinating sight for the little rodent Pokemon.

"Oh, good. I got a little worried there for a minute." Awkwardness gives way to relief, a sigh heaved as he lets his arm get grabbed by Na'au in her attempts to earn more headpats. "As for repaying the favour..."[break][break]

His attention flutters with the squeals of his little princess, the Sylveon pointing towards the juggling act as she does a little hop. And she'll look to Elinor Anderson with a wide smile, chirping as she gestures for her to follow.[break][break]

"Well, it seems Na'au's decided how you can do so." He stifles that bit of laughter, offering a hand towards Elinor. "Would you be so kind as to play along with her whims for a while?"

“Sure.” Elinor replied as she accepted his hand. It was the least she could do given the favor they had done her.

While Minccino had been focusing on the performance it was quick to pick up on Elinor’s movement and so hurriedly jumped on her back, climbing atop her shoulder, and somewhere along the way it snatched some treats wrapped in a funtasia wrapping from Elinor’s pocket like a professional pickpocket.

And so, from its new perch it began to munch on the small round treats while wondering where they were going now.

Getting through a crowd with someone in tow is a little harder than he remembers. But perhaps, that's due to the Sylveon that keeps twisting around his legs and attempting to walk between the gaps of his steps. By some miracle, he manages to avoid tripping over her, grasping a little spot for them near the front of the performance ground.[break][break]

Acrobats cartwheel and repeat bits of choreography around the ring, acting as decorations to the juggler in stage centre. Flaming torches fly high and fall towards the ground in a steady rhythm, the main performer smiling as he pretends to miss the catch, only to hook it with his ankle and return it back to the cycle.[break][break]

However, Na'au's smile is the brightest star of the show, the Sylveon having snuck onto the stage at some point to begin juggling plates of her own? Emmett casts a quick glance towards where he'd have expected her to be and has his attention abruptly jolted back to the scene when he connects the dots.[break][break]

The crowd proved a minor nuisance. But they managed to find a small spot to watch the performance.

It was surprisingly eye-catching. She didn’t notice that Sylveon had disappeared for a short moment. But then she saw and the sight made her smile and chuckle. “Does your Sylveon do stuff like that often?”

And while her trainer was occupied with that, Minccino jumped off, and ran onto the scene eagerly waving its arms about hoping that the Sylveon would indulge it in a bit of team-juggling.

"Not before my ol' man taught her how to, I reckon." He grumbles, watching as Na'au continues to perform her tricks. With her Minccino partner by her side, the two dominate the stage, highlighted by the juggler who now works to help them shine.[break][break]

"Wait till she realises how many people are watching."[break][break]

He stops as soon as he makes that statement, quick to realise just what that entails. And his lips will drawn thin, vague prayers muttered under his breath as he watches her continue to juggle expensive porcelain and knives. Thankfully, she doesn't once look towards the crowd, far more invested in her little game until it comes time to put the props back.[break][break]

As soon as the juggler collects all the items, the audience applauds and cheers for the impromptu duo. And Na'au finally realises just what she's done, squeaking and hurriedly rushing back into the crowd. She probably even trips up a few people (earning herself a few curses), not giving the performers time to adopt her as an honorary member of their troupe as she runs and crashes back into Emmett.[break][break]

Had he not braced himself, he's pretty sure that he might have taken Elinor Anderson down with him.[break][break]

"C'mon, Na'au..." A gentle scratch under her chin doesn't do much to ease her nerves, but he'll continue to try his best as she wraps a ribbon around his arm. "You were great out there. Could even star in your own show if you wanted."[break][break]

She shakes her head hurriedly, burying her face into his side and squishing closer as if that might allow her to disappear.

Elinor gave a small nod. Not wanting to add further karmic-chance to the loaded die that was sure to be cast.

Instead she waited and watched with mild awe as her own Minccino joined the stage, surprising even her with its ability to juggle.

And on and on the performance went until at last it reached its end. While Sylveon was quick to storm off, Minccino stayed put for a moment giving the performers amble time to acknowledge it as a part of the act.

Elinor quickly grabbed her phone, took a picture and send it out onto her personal social media profiles, skillfully remembering to tag the post with #Funtasia and the title ‘Who knew Morrigan was a Carnie at heart.’ Now if only she remembered her little sister's social media tags.

And as Minccino finally made its way to their little group Elinor tried to ease the shyness of the Sylveon by joining Emmets chorus of “Yeah you were amazing.” And of course when Minccino rejoined the group she was quick to rain praises of “Well done, Morrigan.” Upon it.

Had the pink fur not covered its blushing cheeks, Minccino would’ve been read by now. Instead all that was seen was merely a snicker, before it tried to give the Sylveon a few reassuring pats on its back.

She's never been one to take compliments very well, especially not from relative strangers. As Morrigan tries to offer a pat, Na'au begins to whine, flailing her ribbons to try and wave away any stray gazes. And Emmett will simply laugh, giving her one final scratch beneath the chin as he looks around.[break[break]

"Wanna go to a mirror house, Na'au?" Offer up a distraction and wait for her to respond in kind, Emmett knows this tune by heart. Not to forget about their companions, he looks to Elinor Anderson. "Would you care to join us in escaping the crowd for a bit?"

“Sure, I’d love to!” Elinor replied in kind. She had yet to even have a look at the house of mirrors yet, so now was as good a time as any. And the lack of crowds only made the offer that much more tantalizing.

And so she would gesture for Emmet to lead the way, she would follow along casually and so would Morrigan who seemed almost springy in her step.
