maki's houndoom has much the same demeanor as its trainer; the kecleon will approach and be greeted with a single sniff before the dog turns its head away, waiting for a command from its master. it's been with the family since maki was a child, and has been trained just as she was. she chose the pokemon to accompany her specifically because she had known it since they were both pups. rather than for sentimental reasons, she knows she can trust it to follow her orders.

or so she says, anyway. maybe deep down inside she wanted someone familiar with her to accompany her to this region so far from home.

the wildlife around them stirs. the pawmi isn't a huge shock, though maki's never seen one in person. the bronzong, on the other hand, is something of an odd sight to catch in a city district. neither pokemon seems that interested in them.

maki angles her head, studying gerald. "i have no interest in these two," she states bluntly. "you're free to do as you wish."

'not a fan of their types?' maki frowns, thinking over the question. she shakes her head. "no... that's not it." the bronzong could probably be useful, but for whatever reason, she can't muster up enough interest to capture it. it just doesn't appeal to her, though she's unable to put that reasoning into words. she's been taught not to put too much faith into gut feelings, and yet here she is, making decisions based entirely on her own whims.

she'll have to examine herself later.

with the pawmi caught and the bronzong having vanished to metaphorically lick its wounds, there's another round of silence. "this district is famous for its steel types," maki finally says after a while, sensing the awkward silence. "i'm looking to add at least one to my team. beyond that, we'll see what we can find."

as if brought forth by those words, some noise picks up in the near vicinity. maki follows it to its source; a heliolisk and a shieldon are fighting, though over what, she doesn't know. she blinks, and furrows her brow. a fossil pokemon... interesting. it must be from those rifts she's been hearing so much about.

maki commands her houndoom to go forth and conquer. she tells it to use nasty plot first, as it narrowly dodges a mud slap from the heliolisk that's telling it not to interfere. after that, with the two pokemon already being weakened due to their disagreements, it's child's play to vanquish both of them. she throws a pokeball at the shieldon. the ball wobbles a few times and then settles in. by the time it's over, the heliolisk has woken up. it regards both trainers, too exhausted to move.
