A playful bark from Watts drew Jack's attention away from his tablet where he had a rough draft of the introduction to his safari zone post almost complete. An adorable little treecko had wandered toward them and sparks flew from his Boltund's paws and the pokemon lept around in excitement. "Now, now, Watts, we aren't here to play. Send the little gal on her way," Jack admonished his partner. With a disappointed yip, the Boltund instead nudged the Treecko a few times with his forehead to send the pokemon away.[break][break]

Jack smiled and snapped a photo of the pokemon before he moved away from the tree. He had a good start to his writing but he'd need to see more of the Safari Zone to come up with some really good content. Slipping his tablet back into his pack, he followed a narrow trail deeper into the area.

A cool breeze blew, sending the tall grass on either side of the trail rippling like waves on a pond. The scene was so picture perfect that Jack had his camera out in a flash, snapping away as the shutter clicks whipped away on the wind. When he lowered his camera, Watts was gone. Scanning the area, his eyes locked on to a furrow racing through the tall grass. When it cut across the trail, sparks bloomed from his Boltund's paws as he raced across the path and into the grass on the other side. Watts was quickly followed by a small Torchic with his feet roaring in a blaze of fire as he pursued the Boltund.[break][break]

Jack laughed and walked up the path, calling after his partner as the trail curved away from the grass field and into a boardwalk across shallow water.

The dull sounds of Jack's footsteps on the boardwalk brought a smile to his face as he took in his surroundings. He kept a wary eye on Watts, who regularly stopped to lean precariously out over the water as he sniffed the air. A small chuckle escaped him as he raised his camera and snapped a picture of the Boltund on a whim. When he turned back to the path ahead, a Mudkip had appeared, sitting at the edge of the boardwalk with a curious look on her face.[break][break]

Watts immediately thundered toward her, sniffing curiously. "You're a wee one, eh?" Jack asked as he knelt down and rolled a safari ball toward the pokemon.

Jack continued to walk up the boardwalk as he created a mental storyboard for his Safari Zone blog post when the sounds of splashing interrupted his thoughts. Scanning the surface of the water, he spotted a group of Feebas jumping and splashing playfully near the boardwalk. Giving a wordless signal to Watts, Jack slowed his pace and reached for one of the empty safari balls.[break][break]

One particular Feedbas jumped from the water, splashing small droplets of water as it arced through the air. Watts lunged forward in a flash and Jack aimed the safari ball. A spark of electricity leapt from the Boltund's nose to shock the flying water pokemon just as Jack released the ball, sending it spinning from his fingertips toward the Feebas.

Back on solid land again, Jack decided to take a bit of a break from walking. A forest of trees spread out around him with rays of light filtering down from the canopy. Jack smiled and snapped some photos before sitting down with his back to one of the trees. He pulled out his tablet and began typing away, detailing the mudkip and feebas he had seen in the water and proofreading some of what he had drafted earlier. He remained focused on his work until the cries of a pikachu caught his attention and he lifted his head from the screen.[break][break]

Watts and a pikachu faced each other across a clear space, each one tense with anticipation. At some signal unseen to Jack they would rush toward one another and attempt to shock the other before darting back to their starting location. Jack couldn't decide if this was a friendly game, a fierce competition, or some ancient battle tradition of electric pokemon. Instead he simply rolled an empty safari ball toward the pikachu and smiled.

Jack scooped up the ball that contained his new pikachu and set off on the path again. The brisk pace felt energizing and Watts playfully chased several wild pokemon as they walked the looping path. The shade provided by the trees gradually lightened as the path looped back toward the front of the park and the trees thinned. When the pair finally stepped fully back into the light, it glowed with the deep red of the evening and the sun was nearly touching the horizon. Jack grinned, happy to have had such a wonderful day at the Safari Zone and to have gotten more content for his blog.[break][break]

As they neared the park exit, a beautiful eevee stepped out on the path and pranced happily in front of them. Watts barked cheerfully at the pokemon as Jack searched his pocket, finding one more empty safari ball. He approached the pokemon carefully and pressed the button on the safari ball, causing it to flip open. He offered it to the little eevee with a kind smile.
