"Huh?" Came blaring sharply from the other line. "Eris?"

BOOM.

"Wha? No. Why would I bring Eris here?" More explosions and yelling in the background. "No, I'm ain't asking for reinforcements Private, get back into cover!"

Some desperate babbling followed, something roughly resembling coordinates being shouted over the crashing cacophony of a battlefield.

"For the last time, we don't need reinforcements! It's not as bad as it looks— pipe down, you'll get yourself killed!"

With how confident Isaac sounds, she knows that he's got some kind of idea, but is now really the time for a piggyback ride? Surely Reiner could get them there faster then he could on his own two feet? Regardless of all the questions brewing in her head, it really doesn't sound like she has time to ask any as she glances over at Reiner. And the Luxray will merely close his eyes, taking in a quiet breath before returning her a knowing look.[break][break]

Recalling him to his pokeball, Eris still seems a little uncertain in just where this is leading. And yet she listens, clambering onto Isaac's back and holding on tight.[break][break]

What in the world could he have done to prevent it? Surely nothing! "What's that, Doug? You're breaking up!" he said, oh so genuinely. "I can't hear-"[break][break]

Pshoom. The line went dead.[break][break]

"If we didn't, I'm pretty sure you'd never forgive me," Isaac admitted, pulling the water out of his phone before it could do any long-term damage. He could see the worry in Eris' eyes shine with every distant explosion and harried word. If he even implied it was too dangerous, she'd smack him upside the head. " 'Sides. I'd rather have you with me than stuck behind enemy lines."[break][break]

It'd be Doug smacking him upside the head for this one, but Isaac feared him less than Eris.[break][break]

That didn't address the elephant in the room. How in the world was a piggyback ride supposed to help here? That was for Isaac to figure out as he used his de-watered phone to plug in the coordinates he'd heard shouted by Doug's posse. Bingo. He turned, facing the horizon that until now had eluded Eris. This way lied freedom. This way lied danger. This way lied a friend in need.[break][break]

"Hold on tight, sis. This one's gonna get intense."[break][break]

Three. Isaac sank down into a runner's stance.[break][break]

Two. The northern winds blew behind him, spurring him onwards and outwards.[break][break]

One. He peeked over his shoulder, shooting Eris a bright, confident smile.[break][break]

And then they were off.

He stared at his phone blankly, brow twitching before he took in a deep breath. The cacophony of combat around him did not die down even a little as he bumped the back of his head against his cover.

"We gotta wrap things up here ASAP." He informed his soldiers with a scowl, his chest beginning to glow as the dog tags beneath his shirt activated. "Omega!"

As his Orbeetle was enveloped in the light of Mega Evolution, the youth snapped his digits, a psychic terrain spreading outwards in time with his Mega Orbeetle's transformation.

"I'm taking the lead— prepare some barriers and come out in standard waves after I break through!" He didn't know how much time he had to end things here before Eris came tumbling into trouble, but that wouldn't stop him.

If she hadn't already held on tight, she's most certainly clinging onto tighter now. How in the world is he running this fast? There's no way it's the vegetables she slips to Reiner when Isaac isn't looking. So it's got to do with his affinity with water, the miracle of walking on it, the healing...[break][break]

She'll question him about it later. For now, trust is all that matters, the path left for him to worry as she sinks into her own bubble of thoughts. What will she need to do when she gets there? How will they stop the remnant forces of Rocket, if there even are any? Oh, she also has to mentally prepare herself for a lecture too, doesn't she? Not that she'll explain herself very well when put on the spot.

The shores and seas melded into a blur, streaks of tan and blue intertwining at the edge of Isaac's vision. Despite this, the winds would not sting at his and Eris' eyes. In fact, it was as if the world itself could no longer stop them. Their bodies were as the wind itself, flowing alongside it instead of valiantly fighting against it.[break][break]

"Pretty cool, huh?" The winds shook with Isaac's hearty laughter. "Maybe when your birthday rolls around, I'll give ya a world tour!" Isaac's rational mind knew all the paperwork and interrogations they'd have to deal with would rapidly sour that prospect. Isaac's bleeding heart said "fuck that," because he was the wind and he was unstoppable.[break][break]

Not even a raging battlefield could stop him. First, he had a passenger to take care of. The winds that once so readily accepted Eris would begin to reject her. They would carry her out as gingerly as a cloud, setting her behind a nearby rock formation. There, it would be up to her whether she wanted to hide or intervene. Isaac trusted her to make the right choice.[break][break]

He'd made his own choice, and that choice was violence.[break][break]

For a brief moment, Isaac's body would seem to unfurl from the wind. He'd shoot Eris a quick salute and a cheeky smile, then leave her to make her decision. Instead, his new co-pilot was the trustiest one he could ever ask for. Knuckles the Lucario burst from her Pokeball, her mega wristband crackling as she, too, was subsumed by the winds.[break][break]

Doug wouldn't even realize reinforcements had arrived until they tore their way out of the northern wind. A Haxorus and a Tyrantrum stood tall, doing their damndest to break down the fortifications Doug's men had set up. Knuckles was the first to emerge, leaping from what seemed like thin air to smash the Tyrantrum with a flying kick to the face. Fists and feet engorged with Infinity Energy rained down on the Tyrantrum, Knuckles peppering it from all sides with a relentless Close Combat barrage.[break][break]

The Haxorus turned, trying to charge to its friend's aid. Before it could, Isaac burst from the winds, riding their momentum into an inhumanly fast spear. His shoulder buried into its soft underbelly, sending the two skidding halfway across the battlefield. Even a powerful Pokemon would be left gasping for breath from such a head-on assault. It fell, gasping and wheezing, as Isaac peeled himself away from it.[break][break]

"Woo!" He was pretty sure he pulverized his shoulder doing that, but, fuck, what an adrenaline rush.

Doug screamed at the top of his lungs as Isaac came flying out of nowhere, broke his shoulder on a dragon, and proceeded to woop about it, prompting the medic to hold his head in both hands, hissing as if he had broken his own shoulder.

"I don't even know why I bother with y'all!"

He was surrounded by imbeciles.

"'Gimme that!" Snapped the youth as he yoinked a medic's briefcase off another field medic cowering behind cover.

He didn't blame the guy— he was unfortunate enough to get caught midtransit from one healing bay to another— but he wasn't about to wait for him to gather his wits.

"Garo!" Snapped Doug at his Orbeetle, the Mega'd bug rising high in the air as its eyes glowed, before the world around them flipped on its head, gravity vanishing without warning and putting several folk high in the air and entirely out of their depths.

Probably not the guy who could fly, though.

"Where's Eris?" Snapped Doug as he popped near Isaac and proceeded to jam a syringe of scales onto the man's shoulder without an ounce of delicacy or bedside manners.

Probably intentional this time.

He doesn't, does he? His brain is empty on the matter, and requires very little thought to fuel his actions as he drops her right off. And so he charges in guns blazing, carried by the winds as he goes against all forms of logic and decides to quite literally run a fully grown Haxorus over.[break][break]

"That... was... AWESOME!!" And by god, will she make it known, throwing her hands up so vigorously that she nearly throws herself off balance.[break][break]

Never mind the shadow sneaking up on her - Just before they can reach out to grab her, they'll find themselves blasted away by a flurry of petals. Black fur melts into the shadows, a sharp ochre gaze falling upon her as Reiner sweeps her up onto his back. And though he's no north wind, he'll manage with the will of lightning alone, crashing into battle with a Wild Charge and a majestic roar.[break][break]

Forget John Sullivan's life being in the hands of an imbecile, it's in the hands of TWO imbeciles.

Those miracle scales did their thing quick. Isaac rolled out his shoulder, shooting a quick "thanks, buddy" to his favorite medic.[break][break]

Once he could confirm his arm was working, he slung it casually around Doug's shoulders. "Look, she was behind enemy lines," he said, keeping his voice low enough that Eris wouldn't overhear. "Scared. Dejected. Alone. You know what that does to her. Second she heard your voice, she perked up. And now look at her."[break][break]

Was it concerning how alive Eris looked on the battlefield? Without a doubt. Was it less concerning than seeing her mute and near-catatonic? Without a doubt. Isaac would rather see her blood boil than see her meekly surrender to the first Rocket who slung her over their shoulders like a sack of potatoes.[break][break]

"I got her away from her biggest enemy."[break][break]

A Rocket, knife in hand, tried to sneak up behind the two as they spoke. Knuckles flung him into the horizon for daring to interfere. Between her and Reiner, the battlefield had far more watchful eyes on it than it did moments before. In a weird, messed-up way, it was the best babysitting Isaac could give Eris.[break][break]

"So just give her a pat on the head, tell her she did a real good job, and let that warm fuzzy feeling distract her from the fact that the second this place is cleared, you're shipping her out of here." There's the other foot. Even with the League, Isaac prized himself on a good misdirection. "Boom. We all get to walk away happy."

"Get that smirk off your face." Snapped the medic as he backhanded a rocket with scales, the sweeping wave of pink bringing a number of uniformed grunts to their puking knees.

As the other threw an arm around his shoulders, he resisted the urge to pull on his hair as he attempted to (successfully) pull at his heartstrings.

Sob stories were very effective on him when Eris (and Hideo Kino) were at the center of them.

"All right, Fine! I get it! You win!" He said irritably, waving off the other's arm. "But don't thank me yet! we're not—"

"—Past the worst of it now, everyone. Good job!" Doug said as he threw another cuffed rocket grunt onto the (almost literal) pile, patting his hands with a huff before turning his attention to one of his soldiers. "Gather them up, make sure they ain't got anythin on them and throw 'em all into one o' the convict ships."

As the soldiers saluted, he turned on his heel and began to shout at them to bring him all the injured, before finally turning back to Eris and Isaac.

His brow twitched as he stared at them, looking torn between chewing them out for recklessness or thanking them for their help.

With a sigh, he dropped into a squat, patting Eris on the head.

"You did great, Eris." He said, smiling softly.

Before turning a mean mug to Isaac.

"Not you, though. What the fudge was that? Ya think yer a pokemon or something? 'Double Edge'-lookin' ass. You dislocated yer own shoulder in a warzone!" He said, reaching up to grab the man's jacket... should he have any. "Let me look at that thing— I just did a quick patchwork back there; gotta make sure I didn't screw something up."

He glanced back down to Eris, back to smiling.

"How about you, Eris? Anything hurt? Don't hold back on me! Small pains become big problems if ya leave 'em alone long enough."

Best to just be direct with her— He had seen the extent of the damage and pain Eris was willing to endure silently and on her own if left alone, hidden behind those big, puffy dresses and shorts of her.

She suppresses a frown as she watches the Rockets get cuffed and thrown onto the pile, rolling the word 'convict' around in her head. At the end of the day, they were actively trying to hurt others, she has to remind herself. At the end of the day, they'd go on to hurt more if they weren't stopped...[break][break]

In the midst of all her thoughts, she nearly flinches away from Doug's touch, only allowing it to happen when she blinks and realises just who it is. On the other hand, Reiner scrunches his nose, his stare boring holes into the medic as he eyes that headpat.[break][break]

Oh, but the lecture Doug proceeds to give Isaac more than perfectly summarises what she would have said if given the time and space, except a little more colourful in certain ways. A muffled snort is what she tries to hide behind her sleeves, one that's probably picked up on when the attention is turned back onto her.[break][break]

What hurts? She glances down at her hands for a bit, then points right to Reiner's paw that he'd hurt earlier. Though Isaac had fixed it through his miraculous new water-bending skills, she knows that whatever it was, he probably doesn't have the best control over it. As for her?[break][break]

"Don't think so? Just cold."

[attr="class","textbox"]It was a symphony of destruction, beautiful to behold. What else was to be expected from two Avatars doing their thing? Even without the two flexing their powers, their Pokemon were like well-oiled machines. These grunts didn't stand a chance, and while Isaac would've been content to let them skulk away Doug wasn't so merciful.[break][break]

"Glad to see you're not too rusty out there, soldier," Isaac teased, flashing Doug a cheeky grin. "Medic and a fighter. Boy, am I glad I'm on your side now." It was the kind of banter that made the fact that he'd be in that pile in another universe the slightest bit easier to swallow.[break][break]

Maybe, once things settled down, he'd try to talk to the POWs.[break][break]

Eris got a headpat and praise. Isaac got hell of a chewing out. Did he think he was a Pokemon? "Well, I mean-" he started, before deciding to drop the issue before any hairs could get split. Besides, Eris somehow hadn't caught on yet, and he wanted to save that surprise for when Suicune finally decided to show their face.[break][break]

Instead, with a roll of the shoulder, Isaac shot Doug an easygoing smile. "If it helps, you already got it feeling good as new." Popping it back in the socket during a break in the action sure as heck helped. "But, hell, can't say I'd mind a look. Definitely the kinda plan that's more fun in the moment."][break][break]

Ow.[break][break]

"You did damn good out there too, Eris," Isaac said, flashing her a grin. "Thanks for keeping us safe out there. And don't worry. We're gonna make sure everyone's all taken care of, okay?"

He didn't let himself look too proud at Isaac's praise, chuckling as he shook his head and slowly shrugged off his jacket.

"Just a medic now." He said. "Though my contract says otherwise."

He had switched Corps within the military. But within AQUA, his role remained the same.

In response to Eris words, Doug dumped his jacket atop her like a blanket.

"That should tide you over." He said with a cheeky grin, before squatting down besides Reiner and holding out his hand. "Let me see yer paw, Reiner."

The paw wouldn't remain hurt for much longer if the large cat played along and let him handle it.

Once he was done with that, he moved on to Isaac, squinting at the young man as he grabbed his arm and extended it fully, looking over his shoulder with a critical eye before taking the former bleach blonde through a number of exercises. Needed to ascertain the damage and all.

"Why are ya two here anyway?" He asked once he was done with Isaac's arm.

He couldn't stick around for long— fights were still ongoing all over the island, and he needed to go help with the efforts.

"I appreciate the help, but I don't think ya originally called for that. Did ya?"

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Praise feels unearned in a situation like this, but can she really help that small bit of warmth that blossoms in her chest when she hears it? Looking down at her hands, she presses her fingers together as it that would alleviate the expectations lofted upon her. Or well, she supposes that getting to hold onto a jacket two sizes too big for her helps, especially when it warms her up.[break][break]

Unlike Eris, Reiner has the guts to deal with medical attention, immediately offering his paw out for examination and healing. As soon as it's confirmed to be all better, he seems to do this happy little wiggle of his snout as he nuzzles his cheeks against Doug's.[break][break]

Not for too long though, his attention soon turned back to Eris as he shows off his healed paw to reassure her.[break][break]

"I-" When Doug asks why they are here, she assumes he means 'why the hell is she here in a place like this'. And she begins to fidget with the little dangling bits of his jacket, trying to avoid pressure by avoiding his gaze.[break][break]

"I wanted to go to Dewford... to paint Navy's gym... but then I saw the island and-" Curiosity got the better of her, like it always did. "Ga-" She stumbles over the name. "Cillian attacked. A- and I had to run more into the island... but then there were lots of Rockets... but then you were in trouble so I wanted to help!"[break][break]

Reiner reaches over, lightly bopping her on the head and growling.[break][break]

"O- oh that wasn't the question?"[break][break]

The pointed look he gives causes her cheeks to flush red, her weight shuffled to and fro as she thinks it over once more. Then she points at Isaac and squeaks -[break][break]

"He did it!"
