[attr="class","aurelie"] [attr="class","aurelie_lyrics"]All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream
[attr="class","aurelie_body"]Aurelie dreamed about her youth, but in a fantastical Kalos that never was and yet nevertheless rang true in her mind. In her dream, her mother led her through the palatial, pillared halls of their ancestral manse, their steps clicking crisply along intricately patterned marble floors or sinking deep into rich velvet rugs. Servants bowed low as they passed, addressing her mother respectfully as "Countess Lefevre" and smiling with amused tolerance at Aurelie clanking past in full armor. Her mother, a vision of regal beauty as always in a rich sapphire gown decorated with peacock feathers, acknowledged it all as her due. They reached a set of magnificent double doors, wrought from polished, shining copper and inset with gears and cogs that clicked and turned in quiet, steady lockstep with each other. Her mother turned around then and reached out to hold Aurelie's hands, encased in articulated steel gauntlets. "Lili," her mother said, the pet name only her family called her (and in real life, tears crept from the real Aurelie's eyes, unknowingly), are you sure about this? Your skills have ever been in the making and creating of things: weapons, tools, art, even food. Are you sure you are sure you are suited to this path?"Aurelie swallowed, looking at her mother's deep, twilight-blue eyes, full of compassionate wisdom. She bit her lip, thinking of the sacrifices she would have to make and the time away from her family and her forge that her choice would cost her. Then she remembered her brother, waiting beyond the great doors, already acknowledged as a genius and a prodigy with all the glory and power that that entailed. She looked at her mother, knowing she was right. And suddenly Aurelie hated them both, for their perfection, for their effortless skill, for their beauty and wisdom as faultless as the delicate masterpieces they both created. For a moment, she trembled with hatred. But only a moment, for love soon surged forth and won. All she said aloud was, "I am sure, maman."Her mother smiled at her then, radiant as the sun. "Then I will support you, mon coeur. I believe in you always." She rose up on tiptoes to kiss her daughter's cheek and then turned toward the doors, pulling them open. Inside the soaring, vaulted grand hall lined with sparkling crystal windows and adorned with clockwork and mechanical wonders of all kinds, the assembled bannermen of Anistar City stood waiting, as well as a few noble visitors from Snowbelle City and even distant Lumiose City. And there, at the throne-like seat at the end of the hall, at the end of the long red carpet lined with a double colonnade of white pillars, sat her father, Count Lefevre, with Aurelie's younger brother beside him. Aurelie and her mother approached the high seat to the sound of loud, widespread applause and acclaim. The great hall was alive with celebration. Her heart danced as she bowed her head respectfully and knelt before her father, hearing the sibilant metallic ringing as he drew his sword—fashioned for himself by his own hands, of course. "For your valor, for your loyalty, for your strength and integrity, I dub thee..." he intoned, pausing at just the right moment for the huge crowd to hold their breaths as one. "...Dame Aurelie of Anistar." He tapped her once on each shoulder with the sword, knighting her for true. "Arise, my daughter, the newest and certainly the fairest knight of them all." A chuckle rippled forth from the crowd of nobles. "Arise, and claim your place as a defender of the realm. And rejoice, for the glory you have earned today and the renown you will surely win on the battlefield as well as the forge, my dearest Aurelie."She rose to her feet then, and her father smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He came forward to take her hands as her mother had done before, and her brother rushed to embrace her. Basking in the sound of cheering, the feeling of soaring triumph, and that loving, beloved embrace, Aurelie knew with unquestionable certainty that she would do anything for her family and that they would cherish each other always.
