The pair of them are a sorry mess. Fern, lost to the hallucination of the mist, and Jayden to the fury that builds so easily within him now. Whether it is because of Fern’s grief, loud and smothering, or not, it is still a blinding rage and the temperature drops sharply.[break][break]

Jayden has every intention of doing it. He has all the means.

[break][break] The rage that is inside of him builds and builds. It grows without warning, without limit. However this time, when his hands glow with the power granted by his patron, he finds his hands fizzle.

[break][break] The ice that bursts from his hands falls short of the DISCHARGE that races past the frozen shards, crackling with intensity, as it torches the metal creature. There is a brief moment of confusion, shock, and then the mist disapates. The disappearance of the paradox pokemon triggers the world around them, and as Jayden sprints back to his partner, they are thrust back into reality.

[break][break] He slips through the INTERDREAM MIST appearing on the other side, his expression of open concern, as he kneels beside them.

Tapu Koko exercises the art of overkill, oblivious to the efforts of Jayden also trying to extinguish the paradox Pokémon. It sails forward, pincers stabbing at the metal before it dissipates into nothing.[break][break]

And even then, it continues to swing at the ground where it had been heaped.[break][break]

Fern only stares ahead. Blankly, at nothing. Until Mischa is there and their vision is swimming in violet. In him.[break][break]

The fog in their mind begins to clear, but they stare up at him blankly for a moment. “What..?” Their voice is dreamlike, confused.[break][break]

And then it rolls over them again and their expression crumbles as they lean forward, forehead pressing against his shoulder as their own begin to quake.

The trembling has to stop sometime. Even the heave of their breath slows as they remain pressed against him. Snared in his arms is the only place they want to be when it feels like their chest is caving in.[break][break]

Until it starts to feel okay again, until their mind is no longer addled by illusion and blood that no longer stains them.[break][break]

Despite how permanent it feels.[break][break]

Tapu Koko floats back over, head tilting owlishly as it inspects its chosen. Fern looks up at it too after a moment. The heels of their hands rub at their damp eyes.[break][break]

“Thank you,” they say to it as it stares. And though it doesn’t look like it, something forges between them in that moment. A more genuine trust despite exterior appearances.[break][break]

“Thank you too,” they murmur as their head tucks against the crook of Jayden’s neck again. “For being here, for following me.”[break][break]

They’d been lost.[break][break]

But it would have been far worse if they’d been lost without him.

He feels the spark of something watching them and he leans back naturally. Though, for a split second, he's unwilling to yield to the guardian diety that watches over his partner.

[break][break] Jayden's eyes flicker back to Fern as they lean against him and they lean down, pressing a tender kiss against their hair. "You don't have to thank me," he murmurs. "You know I'd follow you anywhere."

[break][break] That ache in his chest stirs to life, the flames of HATRED dulled by the LOVE that he feels for them.

[break][break] He unfolds from their embrace, glancing left and right for any intruders, before he reaches for their hand and tugs them to their feet.
