Not too long after the end of things (the moment he’d lost his rank after the latest Aqua Assembly meeting) he’d gone to Alto Mare. He was not expecting to return alone, as he’d left with Elinor Anderson.

However, he was back, and he did not want to face the music yet. Thing is, he’d left most of his things back in the Lilycove Ranger office, and so was here late one evening packing away everything from the sparsely-decorated room into one singular box.

(At least let it be said now he never left papers for the other Heads to deal with. Well, Head, since la idiota was the only one now.)

He’d been at this shit for four years, he definitely needed the goddamned break!

“Well… that’s it, then,” he breathed out quietly as he looked around at the empty office.

Things weren't the same without his best friend. Not as Head Ranger, or just even at all. It reminded him of the years that he'd went to Kalos himself — made him bitter knowing that it was Lars who had left this time.

He thought he’d spent enough time back in Alto Mare for this to blow over, however with Elinor Anderson staying behind and him trying to find a few things he’d left behind all those years ago, he’d definitely gotten sidetracked when he finally made the trip back to Hoenn.

“And you know,” he continued in the same quiet tone as he looked down at the box that had a few of the non-breakable personal items in it, “…that the reassignment to another position was just the ruse that the rest of everyone else knows.”

He sighed, before turning around to face his friend of so many years now.

“She demoted me, you know that.”

'Demoted' sounds like such a dirty word, when Lars says it like that.

[break][break] Or at least, that's the way that Ollie prefers to think about it. He doesn't like to think about a future where Laurence Anderson isn't in it, where he isn't by his side. After all, they'd started this together.

[break][break] "Come on, don't be like that." Ollie steps forward, out of the doorway, and over to the desk. He picks up a bobblehead that looks suspiciously like kyle lopez. Or maybe it's just some generic Champion toy. He tosses it into the box. "This is supposed to give you more time to see where Articuno is. You can't do that and be Head Ranger at the same time."

“It’s not the where, it’s more on the why they’re acting like a colossal child when—” he trailed off as he caught sight of a suspiciously-familiar bobblehead toy; unable to stop himself from cackling as it was thrown into the box.

“Bitch, you got that for me when we went to the faire, you forgot?” he laughed for a few moments afterward.

He was about to make another crack when he also heard that voice… what in the name of all the unholy pasta abominations was that voice asking them?!

“What the fuck?” he blinked, looking around the room and reaching for the handle of the knife he had strapped to his leg and getting ready to fight just in case they were jumped.

“You… blue?” he asked the other.

“I mean, we gotta choose!”

Hearing Lars laugh is a welcome relief from the awkwardness that he feels in the room. Ollie isn't a competitive person, at least not when it comes to things like this. And while the Rangers have always been his family, and leading the charge is as easy as breathing, Lars is family too.

[break][break] He chuckles, glad to feel that things could be normal again. Or at least a little bit normal.

Now, what Ollie didn’t know was that he’d encountered this particular Tyrantrum some time ago while looking for a certain Rock-type Pokémon (thanks Callan Young, he’s going to be literally camping on route 115 until he runs out of incense looking for a Nacli) however…

The scar on the jaw was what tipped him off.

“Whoa, what the fu—” he trailed off, realizing that said Tyrantrum was right fucking there, in his soon-to-be-former office, only instead of being brown and white, the skin… had turned completely blue.

“Okay, this is extremely messed up!” he yelped as he backed away once said Tyrantrum unfurled to full height, before squinting around with its tiny eyes and then roaring loudly within the enclosed space.

“Ah, shit!”

It was true. Ollie didn't know. In fact, it would not have been surprising at all that he had no freaking idea.

[break][break] Things such as alternate universes or other worlds were a lost concept on him. Things that he was only beginning to learn, thanks to the events of the last AQUA meeting. And so, when this giant dinosaur appears out of a freaking wormhole, he has no choice but to gawk in absolute and utter shock.

[break][break] His jaw could've dropped to the floor.

[break][break] But it didn't.

[break][break] "Shit! Fuck!" He reached for his belt, grappling as Lars stumbled backwards. His hands brushed over his Dragonite's ball - wait, fuck, no, he couldn't ruin Lars' office. He chose his Blissey instead. "Bubblegum! Sing!"

[break][break] He chose the less destructive option.

[break][break] A blissful song swelled in the air in front of them, aiming to knock the Tyrantrum out, while Ollie grappled for an empty pokeball and threw it. Aiming to knock the giant thing on the skull as it fell to the ground with a loud thump!

Due to the extremely bizarre phenomenon that had happened in the office of all places, he could only gape in shock as a pink, egg-shaped companion made an appearance; before Ollie suddenly realized that collateral damage was a thing after all…

And in the chaos of everything, he’d fallen over smack on his ass before watching the Blissey literally pulled a Pied Piper and put the now angry Tyrantrum who was about to lash out with a Dragon Claw aimed at the both of them with a soothing melody…

…which almost made him pass out as well, had it not for him landing on his fucking ass!

“Ow…” he hissed as he pulled himself up, the pain keeping him alert and awake as the gigantic, familiar Tyrantrum collapsed in a heap on the floor.

“Well, shit, how am I going to write off the collateral damage?” he laughed quietly a few minutes later once he was sure la idiota had the situation under control.

Once the little blue Tyrantrum situation was under control, he realized something else.

“Hey, I made sure to clear out all the pending paperwork and reports on my desk before packing my stuff away!” he clapped back. “Don’t want to leave you buried under all those mountains of papers… yeah,” he ended quietly.
