Word had it that a fellow diver had reported strange, labored cries of a pokemon emanating from the entrance of The Seafloor Cavern- and what better of a mission than to indulge upon than this one, being that it was in Oracelies' home territory? Having been reached out to handle this accompanied by a few others, a little underwater ranger party if you will, she had accepted the task to not only feel the magical currents coarse across her skin but to meet other like-minded individuals. It had only been so long that she'd been deemed a ranger, being that she was still a cadet, and there were only so many opportunities for her to embark on with others rather than alone! At least, that's how she saw it, even if there was definitely a whole trove's worth of issues needing to be tended to.[break][break]

Feeling the water rush against her legs as she sat on the shoreline, she patiently awaited the arrival of the two that were set to accompany her on the trip into the underwater chasm. Antipatharia, her Lapras, trilled as it floated beside her, anticipating their embarkment into the deeper zones of the water. A want to refresh herself before heading out, Oracelies munched on her salad of fresh veggies from the farmer's market, wondering just what her ranger counterparts would be like- and she hoped above all else they hadn't ever listened to her music, as that version of herself was dead, ever submerged in the tectonic splits below the sea. But by all means was she ready to feel the spirit of the sea's kiss, the one that lulled her into throwing away her success in the music industry in order to live a nomadic lifestyle.

With there being no room for her Sygna Flygon in the deep cave, she came in her yellow Ranger Captain uniform. This would be the first assignment she would take on since becoming Rustboro's Captain, and she had two Rangers with little tenure to leave a good impression on.

"Oracelies and Ever, right? Captain Shalin Nariya and Hoenn's wildest Pokémon rider," she introduced herself with professionalism she had lacked even a couple months ago. "This is gonna be a deep dive," she warned the two. "Not just any water Pokémon will do. You'll need a Pokémon that will let you breathe underwater, and one that will preferably keep you warm. A Lanturn would be ideal, but there are plenty of others that will do. If you don't have one, you can hop on Levy here," she gestured to the Milotic she was already seated on. "And remember, only the Seafloor Cavern's entrance is underwater; the rest of it you probably won't be able to use water Pokémon for."

With that, Shalin reviewed the briefing with them. "It's a simple mission; we're to investigate the cries of a struggling Pokémon not far into the cavern. Try not to engage anything if possible; our role in this assignment is observers. If things escalate, we are to retreat and hand the mission off to a combat team."

He wasn't sure how he felt about the mission. Swimming itself didn't bother him; in fact, he was quite a good swimmer. It was the feeling of wet clothes he didn't care for, as the fabric tended to rub against his scars and irritate them. He supposed it could be worse, though. He could have been expected to show up in swimming gear, and he would honestly rather be in pain than show off the scars he had.

This whole mission had him restless. It would be another mission where he wouldn't use Rook. Had he come to depend too much on the Corviknight? Probably. But Rook was pretty much his rock, and it always felt weird not to use him.

Instead of Rook, he had decided to ride Jet. The Sharpedo was fast; he had to give him that. It didn't take long to reach his destination on Jet. Upon arriving, he gave his fellow rangers a curt nod in greeting.

"Yes," he said simply as the green-haired woman made sure they were the right people. His expression was impassive and remained so with their superiors' greeting. "Nice to meet you two," he said, deciding he would at least try to be civil. After all, he would be working with these two for the mission.

As she mentioned Pokémon allowing you to breathe underwater, he couldn't help but be a bit skeptical. What was the Pokémon going to do, form a bubble of water around your head? He had never once heard of a Pokémon allowing you to breathe underwater, not that he had had many ventures with Pokémon underwater. Okay, try any. So he had figured as long as it was some kind of fish Pokémon, he would be fine.

"The cold doesn't bother me," he said, deciding that he wasn't about to get into the rest of her comment. Though he hadn't tried to hide his skepticism, mainly because he had never heard of divers relying on Pokémon to help them breathe. Didn't they always use scuba gear?

Deciding not to think too much on it, he decided to listen to the briefing. Of course, he knew what was expected of them, but it was always nice to refresh his memory. The fact that they wouldn't be expected to battle was a plus. He didn't really care much for it, not wanting to hurt Pokémon, though if push came to shove, he would definitely use his Pokémon to battle if he had to.[break] ORACELIES SOLAR, Shalin Nariya

The two that were set for her to accompany had finally arrived, and they appeared formidable in their respective ways. "Indeed, you both may refer to me as Ora if the pronunciation is difficult to grasp. It is a pleasure to meet rangers presumptuously centered in the mainland." She waved to both of them, strumming her fingers through one of her twin braids. Shalin was a superior in the newfound world of ranger activities to Oracelies by the sounding of her directive, so she listened intently out of respect in case anything had shifted like the tides. Nodding at all the technicalities, most of which she had already been aware of both due to the initial briefing over the phone and having already visited the Seafloor Cavern, she reached for her advanced scuba gear that rested within her bag.[break][break]

"Likewise, I've grown accustomed to traversing the deep sea and its chilled spells," she hummed, clasping her hands together at the thought of all the magnificent adventures she attended personally under the current, ".. thank you for enlightening our minds with our objectives and processes we'll soon be facing, dear." Pulling the cerulean goggles over her eyes and placing the breathing stick firm between her lips, she was ready for what would soon unfold. Though she did not have many companions with her that would be able to venture inside with them, being that Gyarados would be unable to fit in due to his colossal size, she lent her heart to the sea with full trust that the trio would be protected through and through.[break][break]

Shooting out from the sea and sending waves crashing around him, Acropora the Gyarados surfaced from the depths and raised his tail out to welcome Oracelies aboard. Lapras would be joining too on behalf of transporting the Staryu that came along. With a quick sprint from the tail up to his serpentine neck, the sea witch was mounted and ready for the Shalin's call she figured would be imminent to initiate their dive into the deep.

Scuba gear alone would have worked for most underwater missions. This one, though, was such a deep dive that there was too great a risk of scuba gear malfunctioning due to the tremendous water pressure that would be surrounding them. While scuba gear could still work, having a backup plan was a good idea.

Ever's Sharpedo was certainly an impressive and powerfun mount for the mission, easily capable of outspeeding any water Pokémon she had. She thought about trying to catch one herself, but she was unsure how well she could handle the aquatic sprinter's extreme speed.

"Great to meet both of you," Shalin nodded, Levy cooing to greet them as well. His cry the sound of an alluring symphony, he seemed ready to dive. "I will call you Ora, then," she turned toward the Pacificlog native before addressing Ever again. "Better to be overprepared than have something terrible catch us by surprise. When you're ready, we go." On her command, she and her Milotic led the way to the sea bottom, their surroundings steadily becoming darker. Though the Dive bubble surrounding Shalin let her breathe even at tremendous depths, it did not stop the progressively colder water, and air surrounding her, from giving her goose bumps.

Ora would definitely be easier to say, so he would definitely call her that. It was better than risking mispronouncing her name. That's how he preferred to think, as it reduced the chance of getting on her bad side. The last thing he wanted was to have a strained relationship with the people he was trying to work with; it would make things awkward.

It seemed that he and Shalin were on the same page regarding the name issue. Luckily, his name was pretty easy to pronounce, so he didn't have to worry about convincing them to call him something else, unless they referred to him by his last name. That would make him feel like he needed to watch his back for his father.

He responded to her comment with a nod, indicating his agreement with Shalin. Hopefully, that would suffice, as he wasn't one to be talkative. As Shalin began to address him, he turned his attention to her and listened to what she had to say.

Ever supposed that was true. That's why he had developed the habit of carrying a first aid kit. Though he acknowledged that it was mostly his father's fault, as he couldn't tend to his injuries when his father was around, so he had to find an alternative. Hence, he started carrying a first aid kit.

"True enough," he finally said, his expression revealing nothing. He didn't provide any further verbal response, just nodding as Shalin mentioned going down when they were ready.

After both of them had submerged themselves in the water, he followed suit. As they continued deeper, he made sure to stay alert and aware of his surroundings, keeping his guard up.[break] ORACELIES SOLAR, Shalin Nariya

When everyone appeared ready Oracelies nodded, holding on tight as Acropora thrashed through the waters and submerged in an attempt to shoot downward, deeper. It felt invigorating like usual to ride on the back of the oceanic dragon, feeling the spirit of the sea and its currents batter against her body- but she was used to such an extreme feeling like that one, bringing her peace within the ethereality and cold chill. With each meter downward away from the sun she knew the spirit of the sea only got more vibrant, pulling herself and her designated companions closer to the heart.[break][break]

The Gyarados swam with a dance of dragons through the depths, and the trip downward was just as graceful as it was tame, the most peculiar part being the brief sight of an oddly naturally mega-evolved slowbro swimming off into the distance. Approaching the indent in the seabed that she knew was none other than the seafloor cavern, Oracelies tapped the light on her gear to allow it to begin to glisten, swimming off of the side of her oceanic beast and retaining it into its orb. Briefly turning around to catch a glimpse of the two that had accompanied her before swimming in, she motioned to them to follow.[break][break]

Tectonic cries echoed through the chamber from further in when she resurfaced, those of which sounded to be of a certain sea-dwelling pokemon, but she could not quite place it. There was concern in the eyes of her Lapras and Staryu that surfaced beside her, however. "It has been said that pokemon have dwelled here since ancient times, one with the saltwater. A natural marvel, a beauty," she climbed upon the stone that met the water, scooping up her Staryu within her arms and retaining the Lapras, ".. I hope that the one we hear now is far from pain, only releasing effervescent screams of content." No kin to the ocean deserved such a fate of turmoil, so Oracelies was optimistic in her wish, even if it could prove far from the truth.

Both Rangers coming prepared made the Captain's job easier, her green hair breathtaking against her yellow uniform as she descended through the fathoms of Hoenn's deepest trench. The Mega Evolved Slowbro caught her eye, though she remained silent. The only other time she had seen a Mega Evolved Pokémon in the wild was at the Braviary's Nest, where an enormous Pidgeot the size of a small building nearly took the lives of both herself and Alexei Ivanov . howard slayte , too. She waved for her less experienced Rangers to give the Slowbro a wide berth upon approach to the Seafloor Cavern.

The air within the dark cave was salty and stale, but very breathable. Once she had surfaced, she dismounted and withdrew her Milotic, swapped to her Shiny Espeon, Starr, and hopped on. She let the psychic-type read her mind instead of directing her physically. "Starr, DAZZLING GLEAM." Starr's forehead gem lit up the alien landscape with a brilliant glow, even the explorer's heart racing.

"Do you get the feeling we're in a place that we're not meant to be?" she asked, her confidence shaken for the first time during the harrowing journey.

As they descended into the depths, he kept a close eye on his surroundings. His attention was caught by a mega-evolved Slowbro, which made him frown. He hadn't realized that Pokémon could mega evolve without a trainer present. He made a mental note to stay away from it, considering that mega-evolved Pokémon could be unpredictable.

Since he had already decided to avoid the mega Slowbro, he simply nodded. To remain vigilant for any further dangers, he continued scanning their surroundings as they moved towards their destination. Surprisingly, they reached their destination sooner than expected, and soon they were entering the seafloor cavern.

Following Shalin, he dismounted and returned Jet to his Pokéball. Although he could have left Jet to wait for him, he didn't want to take any risks with the aquatic Pokémon. So, until he needed Jet, he would keep him safely inside his Pokéball.

After returning Jet to his Pokéball, he released Nyx from her Pokéball. "Scout ahead, but stay outside and don't attack other Pokémon. Remember, they're not a threat," he instructed the Gliscor, watching as she went off to scout as instructed.

With the Espeon providing light, they could follow Nyx. He could have used Celestia, his Galarian Rapidash, to light the way as well, but he thought it would be too crowded to have two large Pokémon with them. So, he decided it was best to send Nyx ahead to scout.

Just because their purpose was to observe didn't mean they should be careless. With Nyx scouting ahead, they hoped to avoid walking into any danger. After all, it was better to be safe than sorry.

As his fellow rookie mentioned a hoping the Pokémon screaming in pleasure rather than pain he was torn between tensing and his face heating up in embarrassment. Unsure how to really react he settled for a shrug, his expression giving nothing away. “I just hope we can help it out, no matter what the problem is.”[break] ORACELIES SOLAR, Shalin Nariya

Oracelies had not felt as if they were delving into places forbidden for them to exist, as she had ventured to the sea's deep, dark floors time and time again. They were blissful to her even when they shouldn't be, as she convinced herself subconsciously that her goddess existed vibrantly, effervescent the deeper one ventured inward. Now that the three had entered what she believed to be the heart of the ocean or one of many, she felt more confident than ever. "I find it comforting to be here, even in the dark," she spoke softly in response to Shalin, ".. it's a blessing we can access such ancient, breathtaking feats of nature."[break][break]

To free a beast of the ocean, a gift from the mother goddess, was something that she wished to do above all else. "As do I, Ever. The ocean is filled with many terrors, it is relentless." Oracelies chimed in, following the glow that had been cast from Shalin's feline pokemon. The trip inward was proving to be rather empty, aside from glimmering arrays of stone refracted by the dazzling gleam- but once they were in further the cries got louder, and once the cavern was illuminated in full, the source was revealed. An injured Gastrodon cried out from the center of the cavern, its loud, echoing pleas for help matching the ones they had heard before.[break][break]

"Oh dear, what has happened to you, child?" She approached, releasing the Lapras to sit upon the rocks beside it, ".. Antipatharia, tend to the little one's wounds." Casting a LIFE DEW in the form of a brilliant pastel azure light, the cries seemingly subsided and the creature was able to lift itself once more, though still struggling. Though, as Oracelies and her companions were infatuated with their wish to help the being, they were unable to see the glowing eyes that peered at them through the dark crevasses of the cavern. As Gastrodon had regenerative abilities, it meant the wounds were fresh; dished out by a swarm of Zubat that unbeknownst to her were approaching for yet another meal.

Nyx's low-light vision and Starr's light were both very welcome in exploring the largely uncharted cave. While Shalin and Ever seemed concerned, Oracelies seemed confident, perhaps having been to this very cavern before. Maybe the oppressive presence was just her imagination.

Those feelings would be interrupted by the cries of a Gastrodon, badly injured. While the Lapras' LIFE DEW was effective in treating the wounds, that the markings were there at all were a sign of the attack happening recently. The explorer walked close to the wild Pokémon, who sounded another cry at the stranger's approach. "You'll be okay!" Shalin replied with a gentle, motherly voice. "I just want to see what happened." The girl slid down from Starr's back, taking a knee to closely examine the wild's side. "...These are Zubat and Golbat bite marks," she concluded aloud. "I'd recognize these anywhere."

The faint sound of nearly silent wings flapping was the only clue Oracelies and Ever would get. Sensing Shalin's thoughts, the Shiny Espeon dropped her Dazzling Gleam's brightness, readying a PSYCHIC blast.

While he loved nature, being underground was a bit tough for him and unsettled him. Even with the light from the Dazzling Gleam, it was fairly dark in the cavern. He caught the whispered comment Ora made to Shalin and couldn't help but envy her a bit.

Deciding not to think too much about what could be waiting to jump out at them, he started a short conversation with Ora about what the Pokémon could be crying about. He hoped they could help the Pokémon. As she agreed, he simply nodded before following the two women deeper into the underwater cavern.

It wasn't long before they came across the source of the crying: an injured Gastrodon. While the two women checked on the Gastrodon, he looked around. Whatever had attacked the Gastrodon could come back, and he wanted to be prepared for when it did.

At the mention of Golbat, his eyes narrowed a fraction. While a Zubat and Golbat couldn't be faulted for following their instincts, he still didn't like Pokémon getting hurt. This meant the Gastrodon would need to be protected from Zubat and Golbat, even if it meant having to knock the other Pokémon out.

"They've come back," he stated simply, his eyes catching sight of movement even in the dim lighting. Catching sight of Nyx in his peripheral vision, he gave the Gliscor a slight nod, telling her to prepare herself to defend the Gastrodon.

A few Zubat appeared and headed towards the Gastrodon. Gliscor, having prepared herself, shot towards one and used Ice Fang against it, only releasing the other Pokémon when Ever called her back.[break] ORACELIES SOLAR, Shalin Nariya

The reality that the injuries were brought from the creatures that dwelled within the darkness, subterranean animals with no regard for any creature than themselves- it was one of the more cruel forces of nature, the food chain, something Oracelies knew all too well. But coming in between such things would have little influence on her lifestyle. She often intervened to save the spirits of the sea for the sake of those that were not acquainted with the brilliant oceantide, for her goddess trumped all in her eyes. Wings flapped amidst the darkness, and before she could speak any of the other thoughts and prayers for the injured Gastrodon, defensive efforts were made- and she was ruthless in her want to protect such an innocent, frail existence.[break][break]

"Bring them to the fate they wish to bring to the spirit." She commanded her Staryu, which began to twist each point of its star clockwise. Channeling energies of the rocky ocean floor, the water type was quick to manifest glowing POWER GEMS around its body, partially illuminating as they shot toward the approaching flock. How they got to a cavern such deep below was a mystery in itself, but their existence in a place where oceanic spirits were said to flourish in ancient clay and salt-ridden sands brought threats to the natural order. Threats that must be tended to with what she believed to be justice. The bats screamed as the gems slammed against some of them, bringing them to form a pile of quivering unconsciousness.

Enclosed environments such as large, undersea air pockets were a marvel of nature. Bioluminescent mosses provided enough oxygen for Pokémon who depended on it to be able to live, and the Pokémon who had to hunt for meat to survive only took what they needed. This delicate balance was what kept this surreal layer of Hoenn's biosphere going.

As ORACELIES SOLAR 's Staryu whirled, Shalin remembered she had a Starmie to try riding. Directly - not with a towing harness. It would be dizzying, but the adrenaline rush would surely be unforgettable. The array of POWER GEMS sliced and diced several lines through the swarm, the cave's floor littered with unconscious Zubat. Seeing their numbers dwindle, the rest turned tail, leaving the Gastrodon be in search of easier prey.

"I would say that's mission accomplished," Shalin breathed a sigh of relief. "I though it would be something a lot scarier, what with the Mega Evolved Slowbro we saw. It sure is nice when things go more smoothly than you expect!" Their work done, Shalin had enough of the unsettling undersea cave. "Let's turn this back in to Pacifidlog HQ."
