CONTRARY TO ITS NAME, THE MAJORITY OF THE ULTRA DEEP SEA IS A VAST CAVE-LIKE WORLD. Shafts of light from an unknown source barely penetrate the dark, causing colorful diamond-like rocks to glisten against humid walls. The dim lighting makes the place seem like you're thousands of leagues under the sea... Eerily, an unceasing pulse can be heard like a heart beat that rumbles throughout the realm.[break][break]

Oddly enough, one is able to "swim" through this realm like Water-type Pokemon floating in air.[break][break]

One may stumble upon deep, cold pools of dark water and alien seaweed as they scout out the realm. Segments of this place open up into an astral sea, where islands of mysterious stone are suspended mid-air.

They were back in the Ultra Sea and Nenet's golden eyes glittered with a fierce curiosity. Together with Naomi Sato the pair navigated back to The Quaestor Lucis. The ship seemed untouched, its hull breached and insides echoing with the sound of nothing; an occasional creak of metal breaks the air, adding an ominous touch to the eerie vessel.

Taking out her flashlight, which she clicks on, Nenet looks over and down towards Nomi as she asked with thinly veiled excitement, "Ready?"

Behind them trails Nenet's Hatterene, the pokemon an old-hat at this point for traversing the dangers of the Ultra Sea and protecting the two women to the best of her ability.

Nomi was pleased to be back at the The Quaestor Lucis with Neffatari Nzingha, if only because their last visit had been rudely cut short and Nomi was keen on continuing to work with the astrobiologist on her Ultra Deep Sea studies. Ironically, the very reason they'd been forced to retreat was now floating next to Nomi, as ethereal and enigmatic as ever.[break][break]
Nomi had decided to call the shiny Nihilego Datura, named for the moonflower, simultaneously beautiful and terribly dangerous: one of the most poisonous plants in the world. It felt fitting.[break][break]
"This time, we'll have a Nihilego on our side," Nomi grinned, nodding her head to Nenet to indicate her readiness. It was time to begin their expedition.[break][break]
Curiously, Datura immediately began to float towards the wrecked ship - but not up onto the deck, where Nomi and Nenet had begun their last survey. Instead, it moved down and around to the other side of the ship, out of sight. Nomi hurried after, not wanting to lose track of her newly acquired Ultra Beast; when she rounded the hull, she could see Datura hovering by a massive hole in the rotting wood leading into what had once, presumably, been some kind of storage hold.[break][break]
"Is there something in there we should see?" Nomi asked, cocking her head inquisitively.[break][break]
The Nihilego bobbed up and down, then disappeared into the hole. Nomi beckoned for Nenet to follow.

The Nihilego is both beautiful and deadly, its movements bringing with it a sort of unhurried elegance that only a sea-creature could ever truly emulate. The pokemon led them towards the other side of the ship, a breach in the massive hull certainly large enough to let the whole of the small expedition pass.

Nenet wonders briefly what has caused it.

Onwards they press into the storage area, the space brightly illuminated by Nenet's flashlight. There the group pauses. Spread out within the hall is a monstrously large network of honeycombed domes and a papery floor; alcoves litter the nest, each seemingly filled with something.

Her eyes wide, the light of her flashlight falling onto one of the alcoves, Nenet breathes out a bewildered and excited, "Are those eggs?" She doesn't wait for Nomi to answer, instead tugging the girl by the arm to trail after her as she moves towards the eggs to better examined them.

One seems to wobble. Or was it a trick of the light?

The depths of the ship were a dark, dreary, claustrophobic expanse of stacked boxes and debris...until the space opened up into what Nenet's flashlight revealed to be...[break][break]
A nest?[break][break]
Nomi's jaw dropped, and she gasped in awe. Never before had she seen such an intricate network of Pokemon egg clutches, stacked one after another throughout the entirety of the storage chamber. Why, there had to be dozens, if not hundreds - [break][break]
Where there are eggs, there are likely protective parents, Nomi thought, but before she could voice her realization, Nenet grabbed her and dragged her over to the nearest collection of eggs. The other woman's excitement was palpable, and Nomi couldn't help but smile even as the faint sound of warning bells chimed in the back of her subconscious.[break][break]
"They are! The deep purple color is quite beautiful, isn't it? Reminds me of..."[break][break]
- A toxic sludge coating the ground, seeping into what should be holy baths of heroic purity - [break][break]
"...poison."[break][break]
A crack. Then another. The eggs were wobbling - quivering - shaking. Tiny forms began to emerge, the same venomous purple as the broken shells. Their forms were vaguely familiar, and Nomi tried to pinpoint exactly what they looked like, even as she jumped back to give them space...[break][break]
Datura hissed a warning. Nomi whirled around, and found herself face-to-face with a fully grown Poipole, its saucer-like baby-blue eyes glaring at her angrily.[break][break]
The babies were Poipole. Yes, that's what they looked like. And now Mamma had arrived...

This wasn't the first time Nenet's fascination with a new discovery caused her peril in some way, and it likely wouldn't be the last. Nomi's voice filtered in like sound through water, distant and distorted until a single word brought Nenet's undivided attention back to the younger woman: poison.

Threatening to consume her attention again, the eggs wobbled and cracked, and tiny Poipole wiggled out from the shattered shells to coo curiously at their surroundings. Nenet had only seen Poipole through models commissioned by the Observatory for an exhibit and they were somehow even more adorable in real life; meanwhile a veritable shadow fell over the two pair.

Nenet is finally pulled from her curiosity.
[break][break]
"Hatterne," Nenet calls, her voice a touch high as the mother Poipole begins to glow with an attack. Right before the Poipole can unleash a rain Sludge Bombs upon the intruders, a Psychic blast from Hatterne knocks the Ultra Beast's attack off course. Hatterne then mega-evolves, filling the space with waves of energy as she squares up for another attack.

Beside them the Poipole eggs continue to hatch, the new Beasts trundling about wide-eyed.

"Do you think we can capture this one too," she asks Nomi dubiously as the mother Poipole snarls angrily. The Ultra Beast certainly wouldn't go easily if they attempted that route.

The swiftness of Nenet's Hatterene saved them from an untimely death by poison, and Nomi heaved a sigh of relief as she watched the parent Poipole reel backwards from the force of the psychic attack. Before it could retaliate, the Hatterene Mega-Evolved, further asserting herself as a fierce protector of her own wards.[break][break]
"It's possible," Nomi answered Nenet. Though her heart was hammering from the initial surprise of the hatching eggs, her voice came out calm and even: she was a seasoned authority figure within Team Rocket, very little could truly rattle her these days.[break][break]
"If we can lead it away from the newborns, we may be able to subdue it more easily."[break][break]
Nomi whistled for Datura, and the Nihilego was at her side in an instant. Noticing the Poipole, the ethereal jellyfish began to glow with a crackling energy. A tendril of THUNDER shot out towards the Poipole, enticing it to battle. With a screech, the angry parent launched itself away from the nest and towards the opposing Ultra Beast. As Nomi watched, she realized that this would give the Mega-Hatterene the perfect opportunity to strike the Poipole from behind.

Nenet hums as Nomi speaks, watching the battle unfold in the open space of the ship-made-nest. The brittle sound of paper tearing fills the air as the pokemon move about, the cadence odd when paired with the splintering of pokemon egg shells.

"I have a better idea," Nenet suddenly declares. "Hatterene, Brutal Swing!"
[break][break]
The unsuspecting Poipole finds herself slammed into the ground and stunned, and Nenet takes the perfect opportunity to move the few quick steps needed to be at the nest; shucking off her pack she unzippers it wide and grabs one of the unhatched eggs to stuff inside.

With that accomplished, Nenet assures Nomi, "Shorter trip than I would have liked, but we should leave."

Nenet opted for brutality, which somehow did not surprise Nomi. Nenet was anything if not efficient, and her Mega-Evolved Hatterene's attack had certainly been a highly effective method of immediately removing the threat of the parent Poipole. They were lucky she had the dexterity and awareness to avoid crushing any of the eggs at the same time.[break][break]
Nomi gathered her things, and motioned for Datura to follow her out the way they had come. As they made to leave, Nenet grabbed one of the Poipole eggs. Clever, Nomi thought. It would be too much of a risk to go back for more, but one would hopefully be enough to learn more about the strange Ultra Beasts.[break][break]
"You'll have to let me come and observe the baby Poipole once it hatches," Nomi said, as they traversed through the wrecked hull of the ship. "It would be useful to gather data on its growth and development."[break][break]
Nomi paused, expression taking on an almost forlorn cast.[break][break]
"They came here through Ultra Wormholes, apparently. Perhaps that is why they are so fond of these strange rifts."

"I'll film the hatching and share its growth charts," Nenet pledges as she zips up the backpack. Shouldering the bag onto her back, she looks over to her occupied Hatterene and calls out, "We're leaving!"

Her, Nomi, and Datura the Nihilego make their way out of the ship, the sounds of Hatterene and Poipole's scuffle filling the air.

"Yes," Nenet then answers as they step outside, her expression thoughtful. "They caused quite a bit of havoc back home, I was shocked to see them in Hoenn as well. I never managed to see any up close in Alola." A nearby bang draws her attention, and from the wreckage of The Quaestor Lucis emerges Hatterene looking awful pleased with herself.

Tipping her chin back towards where they came from, Nenet instructs her Hatterene with a, "Let's go, you." To Nomi she suggests, "Coffee soon?"
