the ocean is a lot more calming than the skies, ollie thinks, as he stares out at the seas that await him. he stands perched at the edge of the ship, watching as the mist floods around the edge of the mirage island.

[break][break] after recovering from his fall in his battle with Genevieve Cromwell and mint frost, ollie had set out to the seas again. he hoped that they were making headway in the caves — little did he know that while his allies battled eternatus, he would be fighting a foe of his own.

Kallistatus drifted across the open ocean, sea spray glistening on its already shining body. It appeared directly above ollie morales and his Pokemon, staring down at them with an expression akin to curiosity, its singular eye full of a laser-focused scrutiny. Through that eye, Nomi also observed the Head Ranger, recognizing him in that vaguely familiar way she recognized many of Hoenn's prominent League personalities.[break][break]
Once more, she was facing someone who ought not waste their time and energy on a pointless war with Rocket. Once more, she feared she would be delayed by misguided aggression.[break][break]
"Which will it be this time?" She wondered aloud, from her own ship, a few miles away. "A fight or a conversation?"

that single floating eyeball... ollie doesn't notice it. the sea spray disguises it as well as the intermingling of the INTERDREAM MIST leaking out of the rifts.

[break][break] instead, he looks at the pikachu perched on his shoulder as they spot the boat on the other side of the sea. he's pretty sure that it isn't a LEAGUE boat, but there's no way to tell for sure... well, except for one thing.

[break][break] "shelly, you ready?"

[break][break] when the gastrodon blinks in understanding at him, ollie nods. he directs the league personnel to steer the ship closer to the opposing ship and as soon as they near, a ICY BEAM blasts out against the other ship.

[break][break] "don't attack!" ollie hollers out, hands cupped around his mouth. "we come in peace!"

[break][break] or so... he hoped, anyways.

A powerful sheet of ice coated the Rocket vessel, the force of the blast causing it to rock violently backwards into the waves. Nomi caught herself on a railing, salt water splashing against her cheeks. Her eyesight switched from Kallistatus back to her own crimson eyes, a jarring change of perspective.[break][break]
Come in peace? That hadn't felt particularly peaceful...[break][break]
"WHO comes in peace?" She yelled back, as loud as she could, hoping her small voice would carry across the wind.[break][break]
The League ship was next to them now, close enough that she could make out the man and his Pikachu with her own eyes. Kallistatus blipped back to her side, appearing out of thin air. Noticing the Gastrodon responsible for the ice, Nomi unclipped a Pokeball from her waist and released Dandelion. The Clodsire would watch over the ship from beneath the water, putting her on equal footing with the Head Ranger.[break][break]
Whether he was friend or foe remained to be seen.

he braced himself for an attack, knowing that there were few rockets that would've accepted any notion of peace, but ollie wanted to believe it. despite everything that he'd already seen, he still wanted to believe the good in people.

Nomi frowned, trying to recall if she knew anything about Head Ranger ollie morales. Nothing particularly noteworthy came to mind. It wasn't that Nomi didn't consider the League elite worth learning about: it was more that she simply had far more pressing matters to attend to, such as figuring out the whereabouts of the DRK Triad's agents.[break][break]
She could see the amicable expression on his face now that their ships were so close, and she narrowed her eyes in suspicion. Did he really intend to carry out a peaceful meeting with her? She had not yet encountered a member of the League government willing to try such a tactic. Many were as keen on bloodshed as some of her own Rocket peers seemed to be.[break][break]
Which, naturally, was a waste.[break][break]
Very well, she could easily find out his true intentions.[break][break]
In an instant, she teleported onto his ship, appearing right next to him. Kallistatus blipped into existence by her shoulder, staring Ollie down with its singular eye.[break][break]
"You may call me The Visionary," she answered pleasantly. "And I would very much like to reach that island."

[break][break] ollie blinked, eyes wide as suddenly someone appeared right beside him. his eyes flickered briefly at the weird floating thing right beside her. (it sort of gave him the creeps. but that felt kind of rude to say to her.)

[break][break] "how'd you do that?" he asked instead, lips split into a charming grin. "that was neat!"

[break][break] his eyes shifted towards the floating pokemon. "your doing?" he asked, pointing.

[break][break] the pikachu on his shoulder however tensed, having a much greater sense of self-preservation apparently than his trainer. willow atkins would be proud.

Nomi blinked, taken aback by the Head Ranger's jovial reaction to her teleportation. Most people were disturbed, if not affronted, by her new abilities, but this man was just grinning at her like an oversized puppy. She watched him cock his head slightly at her Unown, clearly unfamiliar with the symbol Pokemon. Kallistatus didn't seem to bother him either, though, and he kept right on chatting her ear off.[break][break]
"I - " she faltered, stepping back slightly. "The Unown gave me this name. I'm sort of like...their representative now. In Hoenn." She could just say Avatar, of course, but she felt flustered all of a sudden. She had not been prepared for such a warm welcome, considering she was clearly masked which only meant one thing to the League.[break][break]
"Look. You seem like a friendly guy - like maybe you wouldn't want to actually fight someone like me?" She held out her hands as if in a peace offering, palms up. "I don't want to fight you, either. I just want to study the energy on that island." She pointed ahead of them, to where waves crashed upon a lonely beach full of unsolved mysteries.[break][break]

[break][break] though he'd been hoenn for some time now, ollie still could never get over the sensation of avatars. by now, he had known several of them and yet, just like each time was his first time, he couldn't help feeling a little amazed at their appearance.

[break][break] as the woman raised her hands in peace, ollie was struck with the reminder of what Isaac Merlo had said to him, not that long ago. the other still considered many of the rockets that he'd left his guys. ollie had warned him against it, but at the same time, had understood it. he didn't know how he would react if someone he loved had done something terrible.

[break][break] "okay," he relented, after a moment's thought. the heatran did seem kind of cool to investigate. he reached for her hand then, aiming to give it a shake into his own. he winked. "just... don't kill anyone, okay?"

He took her hand, which was so wholly unexpected, Nomi's cheeks heated beneath her mask. She hesitated for a moment, then completed the handshake. Might as well humor him.[break][break]
There was something familiar about the way this man presented himself: amicable to an almost comical degree, yes, but it wasn't that. It was more than he seemed to carry his heart on his sleeve. There was a genuine quality to the way he regarded her, his request anything but facetious.[break][break]
A lot of them are my guys, you know.[break][break]
It reminded her of Isaac Merlo, in a way.[break][break]
"I don't intend on killing anyone," she told him truthfully. It certainly wasn't her goal. Intentions were all well and good, but if someone attacked her, she would be forced to defend herself. She didn't need to belabor that nuance, though.[break][break]
"I meant what I said: I'm here to do research."[break][break]
She turned towards Kallistatus, intending to teleport back to her ship - there was equipment on board that needed to travel with her to the island, after all. Then she paused, and looked at ollie morales over her shoulder, one last time.[break][break]
"Watch your back, Ollie Morales. Rocket should be the least of your worries. Keep an eye out for Unown that do not travel with me, and look for signs of ruination. The DRK Triad are the greatest threat we collectively face."[break][break]
With that, she teleported away.
