When Tempest Quinn approaches Admin Cross' office, he would notice something is amiss. For one, icy mist leaks out from underneath and a simple touch of the doorknob threatens to turn the metal into immediate frost.

[break][break] In other words, cool was the understatement of the year.

[break][break] When the door opens, it is even worse. Not quite a winter wonderland, the room is a slightly less frigid version of the Cave of Origin months ago. The room is deadly quiet, with the exception of the slight beep from his password-locked computer, and a Glaceon that sits at the foot of his couch.

[break][break] The Admin himself?

[break][break] Dozing, asleep, on his couch.

[break][break] Just like this, he looks harmless. A sleeping Ice Prince, missing the dreadful scourge of his retainer.

Tempest had been outside of the Cave of Origin that day, so he was ignorant of the freeze prickling on his skin. The drop in cold made Tempest on alert as he pushed inside for his scheduled time.[break][break]

He glanced around, wary, before slowly relaxing.[break][break]

jayden cross was just asleep.[break][break]

Stepping into the room, Temp did his best to fight off the chill as he walked over to the Glaceon. He leaned over to offer the pokemon his hand to smell before trying to pet it if it would allow it, a small smile stretching on his face. Only after would he approach Jayden himself.[break][break]

An Ice Prince indeed... there were many a man and woman who would have killed for a chance to see Jayden like this; while not Tempest's type, he was handsome.[break][break]

"Dennie!" Grabbing his shoulder lightly, Tempest started to shake the other gently.

Silent, peaceful, harmless.

[break][break] jayden cross might have stayed like that. In his sleep state, he did not seem at all like The Cursed that had nearly caused a Ruination in that icy cave.

[break][break] But that would only have lasted for so long. Because Tempest Quinn decided to disrupt that piece.

[break][break] "!"

[break][break] The impact was immediate. As soon as the other grabbed his shoulder, jostling him away, ice flashed out with deadly speed towards the other. It crystallized not only in the air, but around his hand that viciously grabbed the other's wrist, eyes blistered white and blue.

[break][break] Hard enough to crack bone.

At the sudden attack, Tempest let out a yelp. It was more in surprise than any pain. Thought, that was not to discount the ice that threatened to split his skin or the grip that would quickly crack bone.[break][break]

Instinct and training kicked in, Tempest shifting his wrist and bringing his free hand over to execute a Finger Peel. It would not harm the other, only break the grip and free himself. The pen and clipboard clattered to the ground.[break][break]

"Dennie, it's just me!" Was cried out, in some plead to calm the other.[break][break]

With a husband like Cillian Quinn and just knowing the general attitude a lot of Rockets had, one would think that Temp might stop randomly touching people when they didn't expect it.

He doesn't notice, not at first. All he can feel is the HATE that swarms his mind, that consumes every waking thought. It freezes through him like a block of glaciate ice, cauterizing any other thought he can possibly have.

[break][break] ENEMY. PROTECT. KILL.

[break][break] But then the thought is wiped clean by the sound of Tempest Quinn's voice, washing over him like cool liquid.

[break][break] Easing those wounds that had once festered and formed.

[break][break] Temp.

[break][break] The Finger Peel is effective — Jayden's fingers pry from the other's grip, cracking like ice around his fingertips, until he blinks away the burning heat of his gaze. The fog disappears and in the freezing mist, he can see his friend.

[break][break] "Tempest."

[break][break] His voice feels like gravel when he speaks, as if he hasn't spoken for several hours. He sits himself upright, rubbing his eyes with the underside of an icy palm.

[break][break] "What... are you doing here?"

[break][break] As he rights himself, the ice crystals in his hair melt into water at the presence of the other in the room. In fact, the room even grows a tad warmer.

[break][break] "Ah," he breaths, clouds of white billowing in front of him. "The interview?"

As jayden cross put himself together, Tempest rolled and massaged his sore wrist. Not broken, but maybe sprained. Nothing that a little healing from Bongo and some rest wouldn't have fixed up by tomorrow. But, the reaction had been... extreme.[break][break]

Either way, Temp just shrugs it off and goes to sink into a seat next to Jayden.[break][break]

"Yeah, the interview! You looked so peaceful I couldn't help messing with you a little." It's apologetic but still mischievous; they were close enough friends for silly like pranks and games like that, right? Temp wouldn't mind if Jayden did something silly and harmless like wake him up a little too loudly...[break][break]

But, before that, he did give a small look of concern, his brows knit.[break][break]

"Are you alright? It's freezing in here."

Violet eyes follow the Beast as he sinks into the cushions next to him, a hazy halo surrounding the other man.

[break][break] "It's okay."

[break][break] Jayden shifts on the couch to make room for his friend.

[break][break] His own voice sounds faraway, though. Distant. Like he is still living in someone else's dream.

[break][break] "I fell asleep without realizing," he said by way of explanation. However, it's his turn to look at the other quizzically when he speaks.

[break][break] "What do you mean? I'm fine."

[break][break] As if he doesn't realize that they're sitting in a literal icebox.

"It's super cold. And you fell asleep by accident! I hope you're not getting sick. I'll bring you something spicy tomorrow to help you sweat it out, just in case." Tempest is still all smile, concern leeching into his voice like a concerned older sibling.[break][break]

"If you're feeling down, we can postpone the interview for another day. I don't want you to push yourself just for me, Dennie."[break][break]

By this point, Tempest is actually shivering. He's always had a pretty bad cold tolerance, a side effect of living in the mostly tropical region. Hell, he still whined when Cillian Quinn turned the house down too low during the height of summer. This was something else, though, and it was enough to prompt worry.

[break][break] Jayden blinks. He stared in confusion at the other, but concedes anyway. After all, it's not like @tempest was someone that could be argued with, not for things like this, and it wasn't worth the effort anyway.

[break][break] "I suppose... I am a bit tired."

[break][break] He shakes his head, however, at the other's sudden refusal. His eyes sharpen into silver daggers.

[break][break] "No. This is for Rocket. It's important work."

[break][break] Seeing the other shivering, Jayden blinks sympathetically and then glances sideways. He pulls fern delaney's quilt blanket that had been neatly folded on the side of the couch, bunching it in his hands and offering it to the other.

Even with the chill and sharp eyes, Tempest takes the quilt and spreads it open. Tossing it up, he aims so it sits over both of them. Tempest nudges closer to jayden cross, throwing an arm around his shoulder and pulling him close. Much too close, someone like fern delaney or Cillian Quinn might say. At least for Temp it was completely platonic and innocent.[break][break]

"Thanks, Dennie! Don't push yourself, though. I'll pout until you lay down."[break][break]

With a playful wink, Tempest offered the other his clipboard to take a look over.[break][break]

"I just want to ask you some questions about your Avatarship. Mostly how it feels, that kind of stuff. I'm trying to study how Avatarship manifests in the human body."

Tempest Quinn is not afraid of him.

[break][break] The thought occurs to him, awakening something deep in his subconcious, as the Rocket Beast drapes the cloth over them both and tucks Jayden into his side, as a mother hen would to it's chick.

[break][break] Perhaps if his Ruinous Patron had been around, it would find issue with this. Yet, Chien Pao these days is nowhere to be found, except for the insistent tug on his heart, the spreading of that noxious hatred forever seeping through him.

[break][break] "I was laying down before," he points out, but without heat to it. Instead, he reaches for the clipboard that's offered to him.

[break][break] "... I see," he says after a minute of review, glancing back at Temp. "Well. What would you like to know?"

[break][break] He thinks of the way that Cillian Quinn had been so empathetic in his office.

[break][break] 'This doesn't feel like Avatarship to me,' his brother had said. 'This feels more like a curse.'

"Yeah, but you work too hard." Tempest grins at the other, giving jayden cross a playful nudge.[break][break]

Tempest wouldn't let something like that ice weasel stand in the way between him and Jayden. Curse or not, he wouldn't let it win when it came to himself.[break][break]

"Well, a lot of different things. The questions will seem kind of scattered, but what's most important to me is how you answer them in your own words." When Jayden offered the clipboard back, Tempest would take it and prep his chewed-on ink-pen for his notes.[break][break]

"I guess to start... could you tell me how you bonded with your legendary? How did it feel when you did? Like, physically, mentally, emotionally- all that."

Avatarship or not, Jayden was a honest man. Answering something in words that were not his did not occur to him.

[break][break] "You don't know?"

[break][break] Oh. Right. The interview.

[break][break] "I was chosen during our meeting in the Cave of Origin. It all happened incredibly fast. It bit me in the shoulder and then —"

[break][break] Suddenly, the room grew frigid as ice. Flashes of that day came back to him in a hurry as he witnessed eyes of burning amber and MATIAS SILPH' snarling face.

[break][break] His fingers gripped the couch cushion beneath him, spreading ice crystals through it's worn fabric.

[break][break] "And then all was black."

[break][break] Jayden shut his eyes, steeling himself, listening to his own heartbeat and of the man next to him.

[break][break] "Cillian told me I attacked all of you," he said, voice soft. "I'm sorry."
