Separated from fern delaney, and wearing the blood of one Noel Parker, Rocket's Admin walked along the shore in a daze.

kyle shouts at the sight of a masked rocket. his mightyena joins the fanfare and barks a greeting.

"you look like someone who's bored!" he shouts. he affixes a stolen mask from earlier to his face to match. "who the fuck walks around with a mask?! that's not even where the objective is!"

a few people have been trying to work around the traps in the area to get to the finish line first. kyle doesn't have much interest in it, but it doesn't mean he wasn't going to contribute.

right now, he's contributing by 'going on patrols', which usually just involved leisure walks around the beaches of dewford.

"matias this, matias that. ugh! why is he always leaving a trail of mess he doesn't even bother to clean up!"

he checks his pockets for anything that might have a trace of matias' scent, but finds none in his person. he finds his phone instead, which he opens and attempts to call matias' number with.

"give me a moment."

the number is entered. the other line tries to connect him.

kyle stands there with his phone in his ear while looking at the rocket. his mightyena, likewise, watches intently albeit appearing still.

there is no signal from the combination of being in the countryside and from the interdream mist interfering with the reception. kyle's phone takes a long time to direct his call to MATIAS SILPH' number, leaving him awkwardly standing before the cursed avatar.

eventually, he gives up. he swear he'll go rig the aid that dewford will receive after this fiasco for better cell towers. as champion, surely, he has enough pull to do it.

"i'd give you his number instead, but that isn't respectful of his privacy."

the phone goes back to his pockets and his eyes back to the masked rocket's... mask. he keeps his distance despite the carefree demeanor he shows, with his mightyena acting as a guard against any sudden attacks.

"let's say i'm his secretary for now. what do you need from him?"

[break][break] it is such a practical answer that jayden can't help but be stunned by it. he blinks for a moment, the ice gathering around his arms thinning into mist.

[break][break] it is but for a moment, however, because the reminder of MATIAS SILPH makes his defenses go up again. his eyes flash blue, ice gathering around his blackmetal armor.

"death is the easy way out."

the mightyena yelps as it gets thrown backwards by the clobbopus's maneuver. kyle catches it before it rolls further along the beach and then returning it to the fray.

"don't worry. he'll suffer later. it just so happens that i still need him now."

energy is quickly expelled by the mightyena as it taps in into its inner abilities. a z-move actives as the mightyena barks, unleashing its move towards the fighting-type, turning into smoke upon impact.

MIGHTYENA: MIDNIGHT MIRAGE
DARK-TYPE
mightyena summons a spectral pack to attack the enemy. they explode upon command, dealing damage and creating a SMOKESCREEN.

"besides, he'll just be back even if he dies." as long as kyle's alive, at least, MATIAS SILPH has a way out.

[break][break] his voice is fierce, full of conviction, as he darts forward in an attempt to swipe at the champion with a dagger.

[break][break] at the same time, his clobbobus is consumed by the mightyena's clones. when the shadows disappear into smoke, all is left is the clobbopus' lifeless body.

[break][break] the pokemon that replaces him is none other than his mimikyu, who immediately glows with the power of it's own z-move. shadows lash out violently towards the mightyena and his trainer, in an attempt to ensnare.

he was kyle lopez, one of the people in the league who doesn't really like the stressful skirmishes that comes with war. what he likes are big boss fights and final stands, and MATIAS SILPH is the solution to an easy path for either situations.

smoke obscures his vision enough to be unable to anticipate the following z-move. he doesn't even recognize being ensnared until his mightyena yips in surprise.

"champion matias, huh? that's what you'll get when you get rid of me. i wonder if ego will get him to do worse."

unable to move, the mightyena instead uses toxic in a wide area spray in front of it.

jayden shakes his head. the calmness of the other would have been irritating to some, but to the admin, it merely means that yet another valuable member was taken by the league's terrible ideals. if the league did not exist, then people like kyle lopez would not have to die this way.

MATIAS SILPH would be livid if kyle was taken out first. theatrics needed him to be saved for last.

the spike finds its way into ash, which fall and mix with the ground when ice pierces through it. kyle materializes elsewhere, somewhere near his mightyena.

"to see through smokescreen... are you a bat or something?"

still unable to move, the mightyena is forced to use its pitiful ranged moves against a mobile enemy. a whisper on the dark-type's ears lets it understand the trainer's command.

it sprays another spray of toxic towards kyle's previous location, which should be where jayden and his pokemon were.

[break][break] perhaps it is luck, perhaps it is the sheer will of his convictions that allows him to teleport through the smokescreen. either way, his icicle lands into ash, clattering to the ground as it does.

[break][break] through the darkness, he tries to look for the amber-lit eyes of the champion but to no avail.

[break][break] TOXIC poisons both him and his ceruledge, forced into position by way of his opponent's smoke. if he can't find kyle lopez, then...

[break][break] a DAZZLING GLEAM bursts from his mimikyu's side, aimed at a blind spot through the mist. from where the toxins congregate the greatest.

[break][break] ICE whips around furiously as the HATRED grows in the Cursed's bitter heart, spreading like a forest fire.

[break][break] ice shrapnel manifest around him in the shape of tiny daggers that shoot outwards in a projectile towards their opponent.

"isn't it normal to fear for my own life?" he tells him. "if it's inevitable, then i might as well request to get the longest time."

dazzling gleam cuts through the visual noise, and then seeps through the dark-type's weakness. clearing the air gives the mightyena enough vision to see the incoming attack, however, stirring it to get protection up.

"if you do meet him though, are you sure you can take him down?"

kyle starts to recall if there had been any potion from that one workshop that offered anything close to moves that conjured large chunks of ice, but since he's drawing blanks, one very niche answer comes to him.

it was then that he realizes he's up against an avatar. on paper, ice does go well against ground, answering his question.
