[attr="class","star2tsu"]Picturesque white sand beaches are dotted with giants. Looking almost like slightly deflated parade floats, though breaching they seem lighter than air they are surprisingly heavy. [break][break]

A whole pod of Wailord stranded on the beach has been the talk of the town all morning. Usually when the tides come in they are washed back out to sea, but the storm surge last night left them stranded even at high tide. With Navy still out at sea himself, it falls to one of his deputies to step in.[break][break]

"Hopefully we won't need the services of a medium, Coello."[break][break]

Baki steps from the crowd and places her hand on the girl's shoulder. One of the locals, it's hard not to recognize her. Everyone in this town comes to know one another considering its size, especially a ghost-type trainer in their line of work. Navy might as well have her on speed dial. [break][break]

"Best you help me out so it doesn't come to that, huh?"[break][break]

She smiles, walking out to survey the beached whales up close. Reaching out to pet the stranded creature, a black eye blinks, and a trumpeting cry makes the crowd gathering at the edge of the beach take a step back. Baki stands her ground, though, gently stroking the blubbery skin baking in the sun.[break][break]

"Overshot it pretty well, didn't you guys?"[break][break]

Robin's heart clenched at the sight of all the Wailord. She, unfortunately, had a mixed record so far when it came to environmental disasters, but she was hoping to clean up her Ranger reporting history. "Might need the services of someone better equipped," she remarked sardonically as they approached the pod. "I always forget how big Wailord are until I see them." Ghost types had variety, but not so much that any of them were this large.

She thought hard about her best approach. "I have some large pokemon, but they're going to have to work together to even begin to move one of these guys." She brought out Dragapult, Rillaboom, and Snorlax. Only Dragapult broke six feet in terms of height, but it was ultimately more length than anything. "Hmm. Maybe brute strength won't work. Maybe we could get a huge rock wall behind us to block off the beach, then use water pokemon to create a tidal wave to bring them back into the sea?" Her mind worked a mile a minute, but she didn't have a clear answer with her limited tools.

Usually one or two stray Wailord are not unheard of, but it must've been a massive storm to wash a whole group onto dry land like this. Almost reminds her of the storm incarnate she saw out on Route 105. Could this be a result of that very battle...?[break][break]

She's quiet for long enough it almost seems she's not listening. Then she responds.[break][break]

"If all of Dewford got their Rock-type pokemon together we might be able to manage a wall. But it'd take too long, the Wailord would starve before we engineered it."[break][break]

Good thinking, but not the solution. [break][break]

"Makes me wonder what Navy would do..."[break][break]

She stops, and her eyes open wide. Of course. [break][break]

The local Dragon-type specialist is an inspiration, as always. Hold that much power, and with a hammer everything starts looking like a peg. It was how Navy solved basically every case as a detective - just hit hard enough.[break][break]

"... If we just smack 'em hard enough they'll go flying, right?"[break][break]

Hmm. Tsubaki was right; they wouldn't have enough support to create a large enough wall quickly. But the proposal... "Smack 'em? Do we, uh, have the firepower for that?" She looked at her team. Rillaboom and Snorlax could brute force. Dragapult didn't have a lot of firepower against something this large. She wasn't sure how efficient dragon rush would be.

She looked around. They had ample space around the beach despite the wailord pod taking up the shore. Perhaps, they even had enough room for mega evolution. "I could mega evolve Snorlax. His size will give him the opportunity to leverage these guys back to sea, but. He doesn't move that quickly when mega evolved. I'm not sure he'll get them all to enter the ocean before being beached has a negative effect on some of them." She didn't want the wailord to dry out, but Snorlax wasn't efficient enough at that size to solve things. She didn't have the stone for her Rillaboom, either.

Baki taps the side of her glasses where a keystone is embedded. Immediately, her shadow leaps up and coalesces into the shape of a gengar, responding to the light brimming from the stone. Her gengar grows larger, turning bright white as its form melts into the beach. [break][break]

Immediately, as if it was listening in on the conversation, it darts over to the nearest wailord. A pained cry, and the whale is smacked by a hammer made of shadows, flying off into the air and landing into the sea a good thirty seconds later. [break][break]

"We're helpin' 'em, so it's all good! I'm sure their blubber helps, bet they barely feel anything at all!"[break][break]

With her hands on her hips, Tsubaki doesn't seem fussed about the immense violence. If anything, she seems exhilarated, as if this is some great release. [break][break]

Robin's jaw dropped at the sight of the gigantic gengar. She had one too, but she didn't have a stone for him. "How many times have you mega evolved Gengar?" She was so excited to see new tricks. She had trusted Tsubaki's judgement, but the sight of a massive gengar aggressively returning the pokemon to sea was, um, quite something.

"Er, are they really OK?" The wailord were flying. She was starting to feel a little terrified of megas. She'd only done it to Snorlax once and it was in the Ultra Deep Sea. "Does Gengar have, uh, a softer hand?"

"Too many times to count, I'd bet."[break][break]

Another smack, resulting in another wailord careening out over the open sea. It lets out an ear-splitting song as it takes flight, surprisingly light in spite of its size.[break][break]

"Hm? ... Well, yeah. No soft hands needed. All that fat? Couldn't hurt 'em if you tried!"[break][break]

She gestures to the next beached whale, as if to suggest Robin give it a shot. [break][break]

The Wailord were vocal about not enjoying the treatment. Robin was more than a little concerned about their collective reputation as Rangers if the civilians kept watching the show. Still, she was inclined to believe Tsubaki knew what she was talking about. That didn't stop her from hesitating as Tsubaki insisted she try.

She smacked the one beside her, which the Wailord seemed not to feel. Rillaboom, seeking to be helpful, came up behind her and knocked at the Wailord with a wood hammer. The Wailord barely shifted. Her non-Mega evolved pokemon were not going to make a dent in the Wailords' movement. It was a little comforting, but she also had to wonder how people managed to catch such massive and heavy pokemon. "Okay, I guess it isn't hurting them too bad... but I feel guilty. I wish there was a gentler way to return them to the ocean." She wanted to flood the beach, but there was no guarantee it would work, and it might hurt the people living around.

"Nope. Gotta use a Mega, somethin' with enough firepower. Even a super move like that won't do enough. Blubbery as they are, they float, but they're still heavy as hell."[break][break]

She takes off her hat, running her fingers through her hair. Everything says she's the consummate professional when it comes to this: smacking things and sending them flying off into the ocean. Maybe that's what she's done to vent stress all this time on this backwater island, nothing else to do. [break][break]

Maybe she has some secret past as a baseball superstar. [break][break]

"One more try, give it all you've got!"[break][break]

Her shadow sends another Wailord flying. Its song is dissonant, careening off out of sight as if it had learned to fly quite suddenly. Then, it's Robin's turn. [break][break]

Robin rubbed at her face. "Ah, I can't mega evolve yet." She hadn't studied it much, either. The crash courses on unusual battle mechanics were so boring that she always fell asleep during them. As a Ranger, she preferred the in-field learning. She had a hard time figuring anything out from a lecture. She couldn't be talked at.

"My guys won't have the power to push this last Wailord off." She patted Snorlax comfortingly on the arm as he whined. "It's not your fault, Mun." She gestured to the last Wailord. "Take it away, eh? With the beach cleared, we could totally score some of the shaved ice back from where we came... I think everyone's here to watch the flying Wailord, so there shouldn't be a line."
