“Whoa! The grass feels real, and the air feels real, and I feel real!” Said an awestruck Andrea as she adjusted to the hyper-realistic sensations of a simulated, tropical jungle.

This digital world might have been fake, but the danger was real. If she died in the game, she died in real life. Who thought it was a good idea to give civilians access to this technology?

A Jigglypuff-like creature wearing tropical flowers on its long hair as ORNAMENTS, started screaming really, really loudly, scaring off a bunch of Fossil Pokémon (although, since it looked like this was the prehistoric past, would they be considered regular Pokémon?)

Even while plugging her ears, the dragon-hooded girl felt as if her skull was going to burst from the explosive cacophony. “Go, Simba! Use Throat Chop!” She yelled, sending out a cerulean Nidoking that tried to shut the Scream Tail up by delivering a clothesline to its face.

With some recent developments made in the way of testing with the crystals and such that were coming from extracting materials from the depths of the Ultra Sea, the league made waves in exploring a simulated universe that was coded from such energies...[break]
And it was up to many of those within it's ranks and then some to try and glean as much information and resources from this simulated world as they could...[break][break]
So it was, Yuina was processed and emerged into this simulation, feeling as real as if she were still standing in the initial programming room where she just was. And her partner seemed to feel the same way... It was perhaps a little unsettling...[break]
"I... This place is incredible," Yuina murmured in response, there really was nothing else that she could say, it was all so real, like she was actually standing in some kind of jungle... Which also meant that the danger was very real.[break][break]
A Scream Tail, not unlike the ones that she had encountered on that island, stepped forward and started screeching in a show of power, and they clearly couldn't let it go on for much longer before they would succumb to the volume of it. Her partner released a lumbering Nidoking to strike, and Yuina while clutching her head released Daikenki into the fray. He leaped into the shadows, aiming to get in close with an attack to surprise it, using Shadow Sneak in time with the Nidoking's Throat Chop.

"That should do it! Nice job!" Said the dragon-hooded girl, giving a thumbs up to the woman with the Hisuian Samurott. As the Scream Tail ran away to lick its wounds, the primordial jungle returned to a sense of normality.

However, the peace was short-lived.

Soon, the world around them began to compress like pages on a gigantic pop-up book. "Uh oh, what do we do now?" Andrea huddled close to her shiny Nidoking, too bewildered by what was happening. Even for a simulation, this felt surreal.

Their double strike on the screeching monster seemed to do just the trick, as it fled with its mouth shut back into the depths of the jungle. They were left with the quiet, ambient noises of Pokemon in the distance, water running through the rocks and wind rustling through the trees, and for that moment it was... nice, the jungle was really serene and beautiful.[break]
"I'm... not sure what we do now," Yuina wondered, it's not like they had an instruction manual on how to move through this simulation? Were they supposed to keep moving through the jungle until something else happened?[break]
It seemed like the best idea, and she would have started to walk with Dainkenki, but the Samurott barked at the environment changing around them, everything beginning to grow dark...[break][break]
"Wait, wait what are we supposed to do," Yuina panicked a bit, she was in the same boat as her partner, the entire jungle was folding in on itself and soon they would be trapped within the darkness...

Thankfully, the duo were saved by a perfectly timed scene transition. Right, those were a thing.

In this new scenario, they appeared to be reliving an ancient battle in Galar's apocryphal history, a smaller Eternatus looming in the darkened skies as Dynamaxed behemoths wrought havoc.

"Are we supposed to save the world... from that?!" Andrea blurted out. She doubted that man-made weapons were capable of denting a legendary Pokémon, but enacting one's hero fantasy was tempting regardless.

"I guess a sword can actually be used for attacking." The dragon-costumed woman said to her companion, her decision pretty obvious.

As soon as it might have appeared that they would be thrust and lost to darkness as the world closed in around them, it was like they dropped through that final pitch blackness and landed in another scene, another world entirely. Destruction rested in every corner, chaos reigned and a figure loomed in the stormy sky above them, drinking in all of the energy that ravaged the landscape.[break]
Giant, towering Pokemon laid waste to everything in their path, and Yuina and her partner were there to...[break][break]
"We can't possibly... Not unless this simulation gives us the tools to do so...," Yuina remarked, there was no way, not without their actual Pokemon and their actual resources that they could quell this devastating scene... And even then...[break]
Before them, laid two implements, and while Andrea moved to take up the sword, Yuina looked to Daikenki. She took up the shield in turn, but the Samurott drew out one of his seamitars for Yuina to bear, as she now held both a sword and a shield.[break][break]
"Alright, lets see what this world wants us to do," Yuina returned, ready as they could never be, poised with her partner in this simulation to do what they could.

Absorbing the nearby metals strewn across the battlefield, the Zacian ascends to its regal form. As the Fairy King's Sword, the gilded Zacian beckons for you to fight alongside it.[break][break]

Ahead, Dynamax Pokemon stomp across Galar like bloodthirsty titans. Eternatus continues to soar, unhindered.

The heroines in this retelling of history picked their respective weapons--Andrea the sword, and Yuina the shield. A pair of canid Pokémon came to life from stone, absorbing the sword and the shield in order to ascend to their regal forms.

"They look just like the dogs from that one dating game!" The dragon-costumed woman observed, reminiscing about dahlia goode's route and all the prophetic imagery included in it. Once again, Rondez-View of Luv had predicted the future. How did they keep doing that? That was a question for another day.

"Let's help them out! Simba, use Ice Beam!" The young PokéManiac ordered. Her shiny Nidoking roared, firing a beam of ice towards the soaring Eternatus. The attack was intercepted by a Gigantamaxed Flapple, who took the hit in the legendary dragon's stead. "They're protecting it?!" Muttered the cosplayer in shock.

Taking up their weapons of choice, the relics didn't remain in their possession for long as two canine Pokemon that were summoned by this surge of chaotic power rushed into the area. One adorned itself with the shield and one took up the mantle of the sword, and both were empowered with a new energy to go rush right into the heart of battle.[break][break]
That left Yuina and her partner with little else to defend themselves except for their own Pokemon against a ravaged landscape of giants that stomped and crushed anything in their vicinity, but they still had to do something? The canines clashed with the slithering shape in the sky that was drawing in all of the power, they had to take the rest of the war on the ground...[break][break]
"Then we keep fighting, we have to try and clear the field of these giants... That's the only way those two Pokemon can keep up their fight with that beast...," Yuina remarked, starting the charge as she and Daikenki moved to take on the first giant that had stopped the ice beam in its tracks.

Andrea nodded at Yuina. "You're right! Our role in this story is to support the doggos! FOR GALAR!!" The girl and her Nidoking gallantly charged into battle with a united war cry, ready to take on beasts, giants, and even the gods themselves...

And then the scene ended abruptly. Well, that was kinda anticlimactic.

The flamboyant cosplayer gasped at their new surroundings. "The Festival of Masks..." She had simulated this scenario before with Genevieve Cromwell, and while the atmosphere was festive and jovial unlike the prior apocalyptic hellscape, she knew what was to come.

"It's that kid!" The girl pointed at the childlike figure wearing a teal-colored mask. "Except she's not a human child, but a Pokémon in disguise. I've played this level before." She whispered to Yuina in an expository manner. Hopefully the Hisuian researcher wouldn't care about spoilers.

Metagaming time. She knew the Toxic Chain was coming, but how could they stop it? Last time, her colleague had mentioned a possible connection between the Toxic Chain and a certain Ultra Beast. "That's gotta be it! Come out and say hello, Jello!" Andrea sent out her Nihilego.

The alien jellyfish eerily floated towards the masked figure, who was naturally appalled by its appearance. "Don't worry, little one, Jello won't hurt you! She's a friend!" The costumed trainer hollered, while the Nihilego tipped its bulbous head to show that it was indeed not hostile.

That being said, Jello was a mischievous little invertebrate. As soon as the 'child' lowered their guard and drew closer, those grabby tentacles reached for the Teal Mask. It was sparkly, and Jello liked sparkly things.

"Jello, don't--" Andrea cried out, but it was too late. The ogre was unceremoniously unmasked.
