"I- I've lost so much of it. It's a dream and dreams fade. But this-" he glanced down to look at the chain before his eyes snapped back to Luci, panicked. "No!" he blurted out before trying to clarify. "N-Not exactly. Not entirely." he's not being specific at all. [break][break]

Paxton swallowed trying to keep from squirming under Luci's stare. "Nobody else in that world was...real. Save for those that went in, my mission partners. But there were people living there." he began. "Some of the people in that dream...looked...like...people from our real lives." It was so insane to have to explain this. He wished he'd forgotten it all. [break][break]

"One of those people that didn't exist looked like you. I-...I courted this 'you'." He couldn't help himself. As hard as he'd tried not to develop feelings for these dream citizens, he had for one. But only because that one had looked just like him. Even now, he can't look Luci in the eye. "I pursued them. I married them. I...I did that for a while...but then at the end I couldn't stay with him. It...It wasn't real. He wasn't real. I was lucid." The more he'd gotten to know his dream husband, the more he was reminded this was just a made up memory. An idealized version of the man he'd fallen for. Incomplete in every way because Paxton had no idea of knowing who Luci truly was. "But I still came out of it with this ring."

luci is spiralling. pushed to the edge of a cliff by the only man who has ever come close to taking his heart, he is all but ready to explode at this dawning realization that he had been cheated on, even in theory. but it is finally the words of paxton concordas's sudden exclamation of denial that draw him back.

[break][break] there is a bit of traitorous hope in his voice, like a trembling leaf.
