aster is one of the people not used to it. his apartment complex in petalburg is cool on a good day, due to the breeze drifting through, and on a good day it's bearable. it's safe to say that this isn't a good day.

aster feels like he's been dunked in an ice bath not just once, but twice, even with the countless layers they've put on and the fact that he's...you know, inside. there's nothing beyond a full-fledged need to get somewhere genuinely warmer that pushes him to the door.

it's only when he's up that he realizes- likely due to the cold freezing some part of his brain- that it's just going to be colder outside than it is inside. he freezes, hesitant, and then decided he's not a fucking quitter and pushes the door open anyways.
[break][break]
or he tries to. the door budges, yes, but maybe an inch- and with the gust of cold air that comes with it, aster can see the pile of snow and ice blocking the door.

"you've got to be fucking kidding me." it's more to himself than anyone else, but they glance back at someone who must have had a similar idea.

"good luck getting out. it's a winter hellscape out there, apparently."

In the cold morning, waking up shivering, Yuina was hardly prepared for what felt like the heat in the building going out... Hoenn just wasn't prepared for this onslaught of strange, abnormal weather, the amount of people trying to keep warm outnumbered the output of electricity in the area apparently...[break][break]
Shuffling through the hallway, shivering and bundled up as much as she could, Yuina thought she would try and see if there was anyone at the front office to see what things looked like as far as being able to make the building hospitable again... Until she realized she couldn't even see out the glass of the door it was dark, covered with ice and snow...[break][break]
Standing there for a moment, her teeth chattering a bit, Yuina glanced to the guy who was there too, who may or may not have had the same idea, but had already tried to open the door and let in a blast of cold air from the outside...[break]
"E-even if I-I had-d anywhere to go... It-t doesn't seemmm worth it...," Yuina shivered, this was absolutely miserable...[break][break]

[attr="class","postbody"]his neighbor- did those even really count for apartment complexes?- seemed just as cold as he did, if not worse, from the way her teeth were chattering. he doesn't blame her, honestly, because hoenn just isn't built for this.

he thinks if he could get his hands on whatever had caused it to snow in the first place, he would make it regret it. he also thinks that he should probably feel bad for his sort-of neighbor, but it's hard to when he's pretty sure his own breath comes out in a gust of white air.

"i was hoping to get somewhere warmer." he admits, with an attempt at a laugh that just sounds more like a shaky breath. "if it even exists." they don't want to go all doom and gloom, we're going to freeze to death, but damn if it doesn't feel like it. would calling someone to rescue them be too drastic a measure?

"i can...see if someone can clear the snow out of the way? it'd just be a while." and, considering the cold, he's more tempted to just get all the blankets he has and curl back up in his bed.

Was going somewhere warmer an option if it might be that power was out and heaters were failing all over the place? And unless they were willing to travel somewhere else, another city for a time... That was a lot of work for just wanting to stay warm for a little bit while things got situated...[break]
"N-no, there's probably people a-all over the city t-trying to do the same thing... It's probably best to st-tay put...," Yuina returned, though she had to wonder if soon she might be called for some recon work being a ranger and all... She didn't want to go out in this weather without being able to alleviate some of the stiffness and soreness of being asleep and waking up cold and shivering...[break][break]
For better or for worse though, knowing that she could be called at a moment's notice given the strange weather the region had been having lately, Yuina had kept some of her warmer pokemon with her... Turns out it was a good call...[break]
"U-uhm, d-do you want to come with me, to my place? I have some of my fire type Pokemon with me, we could try to keep warm-m until things are handled," Yuina offered, starting to shuffle back through the hallway, it was the least she could do, if he didn't have any fire type Pokemon, staying warm was a necessity right now.

they don't make any attempt to hide the brief wrinle of his nose in response.

"i was just going to call." he says, after a second, in a tone that makes it more than clear that he doesn't really want to drop it but will for the pretense of being polite. "you know, since the door's blocked."

a nudge at the door confirms that, yes, it's still blocked. and that if aster had been smarter, he would have brough a pair of gloves- or maybe even two, because damn if the metal of the door isn't cold.

anything they plan on saying comes to a screeching halt at the offer- and while he knows he shouldn't mess with this poor stranger, it's too tempting to not. what may be the world's most devilish grin crosses his face before he breaks the silence.

He seemed pretty persistent on getting through the doors and trying to call someone... It seemed like wasted effort though? Unless he really needed to get somewhere for an emergency, it was dangerous out right now if there was this much snow and ice, and they likely weren't the only people calling on emergency services... She herself could get the doors open with her Pokemon, but she herself also didn't need to go anywhere, not right now...[break][break]
"If-f you r-really need-d to get somewhere, I can-n...," Yuina tried to say, starting to offer her help, she had the right Pokemon for it, but then he turned the conversation around to something truly awful... And for what? Because she was offering to help him? Her cheeks flushed crimson, she was still learning, or relearning, so much about her emotions... She didn't know if this was embarrassment, anger, frustration... Any combination thereof... But she wasn't going to sit there and take it... All she was trying to do was help...[break][break]
"And I'm not-t into strangers-s, who don't-t appreciate kindness-ss," she returned, narrowing her eyes before turning to go back to her unit.[break][break]

[attr="class","postbody"] if the woman had an issue with his constant escape attempts, she didn’t say anything. or at least, she didn’t say anything that would make it obvious. he’s used to judgment (they’ve done it before, themself) and he’s sure that the silence that follows is nothing but. she starts to break it, when, from where aster’s standing, he can see the realization of what he’s said sink in.

whoops. he’s done pissed her off, and, honestly, if it weren’t so funny he probably would have felt a little guilt. in theory.

the closest thing to it sinks in once he realizes he’s more effectively trapped, especially with tiny Pokémon that won’t be able to do much. so he bites down any lingering amusement- and the urge to ask if this stranger has any sense of humor, because it was funny- and forced his most pathetic act.

“wait. i’m sorry. it was a bad joke, and I apologize.” somehow, they manage to keep a straight face when they say it. if only because they do really need the help.
