"Oh, that's the name," Shalin replied, having to study reports from the apocalyptic ice storm as part of her promotion to Captain. "Kyurem. Can stay behind for all I care. I don't want anything to do with such a Pokémon." Even if she could catch it, its body would be too cold for her to sit on, even with her suit's protections. Those protections were also very limited against an ice-type.

"More Pokémon being frozen in here..." Shalin sighed, thinking about how her deployment to Littleroot may have been a blessing after all. "So many died for this to be only a scar on Hoenn. We may not get so lucky next time."

The power of the gods indeed was undeniable. That it took several of them to force Kyurem into its dimensional prison last time was a testament to how much of a threat the skyscraper-sized Pokémon's return would be. Little did she know just how much worse that threat would be the second time around. "We do have some of the gods on our side. We just have to trust in their judgment... and the judgment of their wielders."

Not far beyond a snow drift, Shalin noticed a sleeping Beartic. Not wanting to disturb it until she was on its back, ready to struggle against it until she could catch it, she slid off Lathiel's back. Quietly approaching, she was about to pounce the ice-type and steel herself for the coldest rodeo since wrangling Letheia with Altagracia Contreras so long ago. Seconds before she was to make her move, she noticed a lot of cuts and scrapes beneath its white fur.

She wanted to wrangle wild Pokémon, but not while they weren't at full strength. Feeling awful for the hurt Pokémon, Shalin clicked another Poké Ball open, a Shiny Espeon wearing a saddle, but no reins, cooing upon her release. "Hey Starr, mind making a WISH for this poor Beartic? He's hurt!" Nodding, the red jewel on the green psychic-type's head glowed. It took some time, but the wild's wounds began to close.

The confused but grateful bear turned toward Shalin. "What happened to you?" Starr closed her eyes and glowed a purple-pink, tapping into Shalin's mind to serve as an intermediary between the two. While the two Pokémon were conversing, the Beartic bumped her gently, as if to want to go with her. "That's awful! You'll have a place on Team Shalin if you want." Procuring an empty Poké Ball, she gently tapped the ice-type with it.

Shalin couldn't imagine it herself; being Rustboro's Captain kept her busy. It would be difficult to keep both those demands and the demands of a potential Patron in balance. She had enough of a time keeping her entire Pokémon sanctuary entertained. There were still what, thirty or so Pokémon holding in her Pokémon Storage account, waiting to be named and brought onto the grassy plateau behind her home? She had lost count. Perhaps once she built vacation time up, she would spend a week or two doing just that. Raising so many Pokémon sure was a lot of work, but was it ever worthwhile!

"I'll need to take the Beartic to Oldale's Pokémon Center after we go our separate ways," Shalin said, Lathiel slowly walking closer to Katsudon to at last greet the Type: Null with a simple "hello" in her own language. "I've collected a lot of data that will help us figure out why the Pokémon here are so aggressive. Thanks. If there's any way I can help you with your errand on the way back to Oldale, I'm willing to help how I can. How much do you work with Sygna Suits?"

Lathiel and Shalin were growing closer by the journey; that she allowed Shalin to ride her like any of her other Pokémon was a sign of the growth of their relationship with one another. One day, the macabre creature would shed that dark nature completely, shed her mask, and truly become a force to be reckoned with: a legendary Pokémon whose strength could give even Avatars pause.

"Was mostly asking if you worked with them. It is a bit overwhelming at times," she admitted. "Recently, it feels like the suit has bonded to a second Pokémon. Not just my Flygon, but my Venusaur, too. And I've been able to do... extraordinary things since then, with both of them." She would go on to describe some unique, crazy feats she had pulled off with her Pokémon, the most obtuse being riding on the Venusaur's Power Whip while manifesting Vine Whips of her own from the backs of her hands. It was comparable to what a legendary Pokémon's Avatar could do, but on a less grandiose scale.
