Normally, authority meant jack shit to her. She didn’t care if you were a CEO or a flipping king. If you cut in front of her at a roller coaster, she was getting you kicked out of the park. The whole ‘rules for thee and not for me’ thing was part of why she joined Rocket. Though most of the reason stemmed from being a hormonal teenager with daddy issues.

But, for some reason, having Tempest Quinn around made her nervous. Definitely not her baby cousin nervous, but not the neutral, level-headed self she typically presented. Maybe some part of her thought he could read her mind. That somehow his gaydar or whatever would let him spot the niggling doubts behind the tit mountains. Absolutely ridiculous.

Fortunately, the redhead thought she’d hidden it pretty well. The six layers of snow gear helped. Yakuza, meanwhile, had zero nerves to speak of. The Obstagoon didn’t process danger in a standard way. Instead, the dark type kept running ahead to catch snow on his tongue and occasionally do snow angels in the drifts. “Get back here, Yakky.” Madd’s voice dropped into a hiss as she drew to a stop. With a toothy grin, the Obstagoon jogs back to her.

Staring up at the wall of ice in front of her, the redhead’s eyes narrowed. Even from here, she could see the pockmarks in the ice—open wounds left behind by Leaguers trying to dig into the past. Apparently, this wasn't Nevermelt Ice. Acting like being the government somehow gave them the right to claim history.

For now, she doesn’t see any lookouts at the dig site. Maybe they’d cleaned this one out already? Let’s get this over with. She finally turns to face her boss. Her voice is slightly garbled by the scarf wrapped around her mask. “It looks like we’re clear.” She paused. Time for some ass-kissing. “Sir.”

Ice crunched under foot. As the snow fell in thick clumps, Tempest knew the deep footprints left behind would be covered. There was little to worry about in line of being followed.[break][break]

It was not his first venture out here. But he preferred that mint frost stayed far from his mind in the best scenarios.[break][break]

At one side, a large Arcanine stayed close. Her warmth was valuable. Wrapped around his neck and shoulders like a scarf was his Flareon; Agni hated the feeling of ice between her claws.[break][break]

It had went smoothly so far. Almost too smoothly. It made Tempest frown.[break][break]

Then he remembered that he was with someone else.[break][break]

"Ah, you don't have to call me 'sir'." Right now, anyway. It was just the two of them, he and Miss McKenna. There was no need for formality.

On occasion, Madeline would cast an envious glance at the Flareon. Sure, she had a fire-type of her own. But wrapping yourself in molten lava wasn’t exactly a good idea. On occasion, her footsteps would slow enough to bask in the warmth of the big fluffy dog. It’s like Richard the Second or something. Her uncle’s dog served as everything from a pillow to a rough-housing playmate growing up. Having her around was the best part of this mess.

As he corrected her, Madd turned to face him. Sure, this was an anarchist shitshow, but it felt weird to be super chummy with her boss. At a day job—where you weren’t killing people—it seemed fine. But this guy could drop her like a sack of potatoes. It wasn’t like an HR violation would bring her back to life. “What do you want me to call you then?” Suddenly, her forward progress stopped. Fiery eyes narrowed as she stared out at the wide open space in front of them. Though it’d been bothering her, the nerves had stopped her from paying it much mind. “Do you feel that?”

The ground beneath their feet was vibrating. Cursing beneath her breath, she turned to look behind them. Suddenly, the little snow hills looked way too orderly. More like the path of a snake or burial mound than windblown happenstance. “Shit.” A hand dropped to a Pokeball at her side. “I knew this was too easy.” Now out in the open with nowhere to hide, whatever was beneath them made its presence known.

Snow erupted in front of them as something emerged from the cold hard ground. For a moment, the grunt was blinded.

Then the snow exploded outwards.[break][break]

Tempest sighed as he was covered in the stuff. A herd of Baxcalibur, massive in stature and clearly upset by their nests being bothered, glowered at he and Madeline McKenna. A few Frigibax and Arctibax hung in the wings, the larger ones also lowering heads and rearing for a fight.[break][break]

"Can you stay alive?" Was asked, before Tempest cracked his knuckles. A steady glow surrounded him at once, a second skin from his Sygna Suit folding over his clothes. It looked kind of like a wetsuit, lots of jagged blacks and blues with flashes of yellow.[break][break]

Infinity Energy burned in his veins before he charged forward. Not his pokemon, just Tempest himself. The dragon type he was heading at seemed just as surprised by this, especially when a powerful punch CRACKED in the air, knocking the heavy pokemon backwards and over. Tempest shook out his hand, knuckles already swelling, Fighting Type energy dispelling from his Close Combat.

The redhead nodded. It wasn’t like she was scared to use his first name. Surnames were always confusing anyway. Do you know how many McKennas could be in a room back home? It’d be like drawing a paper out of a hat. “Tempest, then.” It was a way cooler name than hers. It kind of made her wish she’d changed it.

Whoosh! Madeline found herself buried in a layer of powdered snow. With a noise of frustration, she stumbled backward. This instinctual reaction saved her from being cleaved in two by a Dragon Tail. “You would think ice types would be chill.” She shouted at the older man as he turned into kamen rider. His question made her snort. “I guess we’ll see!”

At least dying would get her out of the psychopath country club.

Quickly assessing her situation, the grunt swaps Yakuza for a glowing beacon. The Magcargo—Moxie—doesn’t seem impressed by the army of dragons. From its seat outward, snow begins to melt at a rapid pace. This makes it easier for the ginger to spot her opponents. Which, in their charge, had been nice enough to put themselves in a nice little line.

If they weren’t already attacking, Madd might have found a way to defuse the situation. But that wasn’t an option with a bunch of glowing death beams coming at her. Waiting until they draw within range, the redhead makes her order. “Rock Slide!”

And, just like that, it’s raining ~~men~~ boulders.

Madeline McKenna and her pokemon sent more of the pokemon flying. Which was good, they would need some type of AOE like that to get out of here.[break][break]

The Ice type dragons all groaned but slowly stood up. While the youngest hid away by the nests, the older and stronger panted and seemed ready to die for whatever they were guarding.[break][break]

"We should probably try and find a way around. I think these guys are guarding eggs."[break][break]

One of the Braxien snapped at him. Tempest lunged out to grab it by the snout; his hands pressing down on the mouth to keep it from opening with his own dark powered approximation of Crunch. You couldn't pries a Sharpedo's jaws open, after all.
