She couldn’t remember if she’d ever met Eva Morales in person. That wasn’t saying much. Her memory had been fantastic, once, before she’d gone in and rototilled out the extraneous, painful bits, like an ortho specialist does arthritis in a joint.

Eva didn’t recognize the fellow blonde. She was happy to see another woman in the tournament. So far, she’d met mostly men in battle. GIRL POWER!

“Just Eva! . . . Nice to meet you Ana!” she gave the woman a little salute before tossing the pokeball up into the air. The crimson light flashed and molded itself into the shape of an intimidating Machamp.

“But today, you can call me The Winner!” Syah smacked her four fists together, a sharp crack indicating her readiness to battle. Despite the professor’s confident words, she maintained a playful grin, obviously enjoying the prospect of engaging in battle.

“Steel what?” Eva blinked cluelessly at the woman across the field, not quite putting two and two together. She wasn’t allowed to dwell too long on the joke because the battle started with the Iron Valiant lunging at Syah with a PSYCHO CUT.

The paradox pokemon was going to be a tricky opponent. This wasn’t Syah’s first time facing one in the arena. Eva had tamed one not that long ago, and to study its abilities, she had pitted it against Syah on the training field at Headquarters. Syah attempted to throw up a quick WIDE GUARD to protect herself from the psychic-type attack.

“Ooohhhh a meme,” Eva exclaimed in realization. Her smile grew as Ana explained the meme to her, which was needed. Eva didn’t watch wrestling, nor did she spend much time on the internet (that wasn’t research) that would introduce her to any memes using the base, “Like CALM DOWN - BAM!” Eva reenacted the scene by pretending to swing a chair across the area in front of her.

The ‘BAM’ lined up with the well-placed MOONBLAST that stuck Syah on the side. That immediately made Eva cringe. Oops.

The Machamp was quick to launch back onto her feet. She decided not to mess around anymore. A golden glow shifted her bulky form into something even more intimidating. The MEGA EVOLVED Machamp launched forward with DRAGON HAMMER.

The Machamp’s strike hit Rose’s side, denting the metal. Spurts of neon, sparkly pink energon splattered the ground and the mega-Pokemon’s orange-tipped fingers. Rose groaned a sharp, grinding noise, fighting through the pain to slice at the Machamp with psycho cut.

The feel of softened metal and audible crunch that came with it, didn’t slow down the Machamp. Close combat like this was what she lived for, her specialty (hence the four arms). She shifted with the Iron Valiant, moving fluidly to mirror them. Two of her arms raised to protect her more vital areas from the PSYCHO CUT. The ethereal energy sliced a gash across her forearms while she used the others to CROSS CHOP the Iron valiant’s other side.

The Mega Machamp managed to put a mirroring dent in Rose’s other side, which was bad for the Pokemon overall, but good for Ana’s symmetry OCD.
