their jobs have kept them apart. the last she'd seen of navidson, she'd been haranguing him after the events following the aqua initiative. redirected anger braided out of fraying ends, tumbling out into a battle of snarls.

she still despises him for his recklessness. she has a sneaking suspicion Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki gets it from him.

but they're healed now and the world keeps turning and from behind her dragon, she offers a wave and a smile as he approaches.

“Yo, Freya.” Returning the wave, he smiles like nothing happened between them. Duty has kept them both busy. They’re on the same side. Even if their personalities clash, he counts her as an ally. In these trying times, he needs all of the help he can get.[break][break]
“Wish Vortigern wasn’t busy back in Dewford. It’d be fun to finally see Lyune and him go at it.” But that will be a battle for another day. Today, an enemy of dragonkind stands beside Navy. Knights and dragons need one another. Their legends demand the absolute devastation of the other.[break][break]
Roland bears more scars than a machine has any right to bear. One-armed and made of solid chrome, his color palette lays bare his dents and cuts. Within this machine dwells a warrior’s soul. At the sight of Lyune, he offers a courtly bow. The dragon’s gaze is enough to inspire fear in the fearless.[break][break]
But fear is a gift. It sharpens the senses, reminds mankind of what they are. Fragile though they may be, their myths are built upon fighting frightful things and winning.[BREAK][BREak]
“Don’t think you’ve met Roland, huh? He’s a good guy. Too much like me for his own good.” Somehow, he makes a machine sigh. “Having fun in the tournament?”

this won't be their first ironworks gallade they've taken on. ana fell 's rose lalonde had executed a near flawless takedown on lyune. he'd almost paid the price with his life. so seeing another one of the paradox giants in front of him makes his spine shudder in anticipation.

he does not return niceties. dragons do not bow.

"had a few good battle so far," she says in return. he's not near enough to see the wariness in her eyes. lyune's frills twitch. he asks, with a ruffle of his wings, how do i play this?

freya grins at navy and says, "lyune? go loud."

and a molten jet stream of fire blasts out towards the knight.

“Roland, you heard the lady.” Even as the flames advance upon him, Navy smiles. He enjoys fighting dragons as much as he does taming them.[break][break]
“Go loud.” He holds a tera orb in his hand. Iron Valiants have no special forms, not any that Navy can see. Terastallization seems to be the only option open to them, except for Z-moves. Navy holds his orb, slots in a shard, and throws.[break][break]
As the flames come, Roland dreams of a world bathed in witchlight. That is a world for Gardevoirs, secrets whispered under moonlight, and nothing so banal as open battle. He emerges from crystals reborn, adorned by a fae crown.[break][break]
His moonblast meets the flames, but even that is not enough. He’s forced onto the backfoot, retreating ahead of the flames. He leverages speed, holding his blade, looking for an opportunity to advance.[break][break]
“Well played.” Navy admits, equal parts admiration and vexation. It is frighteningly hard to not be transfixed by dragonfire.

moonlight comes, empowered by the fae crown wrought atop the knight's head, but still lyune burns through the attack. pink motes of dust plume out around them, lifting freya's hair off her shoulders. her nose wrinkles.

the knight hunkers down, looking for an opportunity, and lyune unfurls his wings. with one bounding leap he takes to the air. smoke curls from his nostrils and freya chuckles to herself - his agitation is understandable. his dragon attacks will do nothing against this foe.

so he thunders in indignation and releases another bout of flame, intending to blanket the entire battlefield in fire.

For a machine, he acts reckless, almost like a human. When faced with scorching flames, he endeavors to barrel through. Let the flames burn his chrome parts. Let Lyune burn him black. A knight who would back down before a dragon is no true knight.[break][break]
There are paths in life which, though foolish, must be treaded. The fallen Gallade with whom he shares a name and soul understood that well. Roland rushes forward. Moonlight gathers along the edge of his blade, though that light is in truth his very spirit.[break][break]
He lunges through the flame, up to the apex of the world. His blade aims for the dragon’s wing.[break][break]
Navy reaches out a hand, only to call it back. There is nothing he could say, no gesture or comment, that would dissuade Roland. He would do exactly what the Iron Valiant would do, in his position. He has before, much to Freya’s scorn.

servos whir in denial and still the knight, with its glowing neon eyes, advances towards lyune. the storm present in the air since the tournament's beginning continues to darken. the clouds are swollen, threatening rain, but it's as though nature itself holds its breath when the valiant leaps.

there are z-crystals spun in her braids and one of them glows now, a nova amidst starlight. lyune's muscles roll, wings slamming down, pluming the fire that sputters at the edge of his maw.

he will not maneuver away in a dodge. his mistress would never demand him of it.

the red scales under his throat glow molten as explosive heat claws free from behind his tongue. indignant flames blast outward and towards the assailant without mercy.

He suffers in silence. The fall is inevitable when the fire comes for him. Those that gathered to watch an elite 4 and a councilwoman duel gasp, step back in shock. They behold a dragon’s power. It is easy, watching Lyune, to understand why mankind has such a fascination with his kin.[break][break]
Roland points his blade, forced to a knee by the flames. Metal is warped, scorched, blackened by the flames. Power gathers around his blade, one final moonblast against the storm. One final last attempt at victory.[break][break]
And then, he falls. Navy forces him back into his pokeball before Roland is wholly consumed by the fire. Hattori is already out of his pokeball, spraying water to help douse the hungering flames.[break][break]
“Arceus, he’s strong.” Navy says in admiration, remembering the boy he had once been. He read his brother bedtime stories about dragons, back when it was just the two of them. He wonders if Lyune will star in any of those stories when the history of this war is written.

faerie fire reaches through the flames and his scales smoke; moondust swirls around him, smarting his eyes. he does not relent. and freya watches impassively from below. her sygna suit is inert, but that does not stop her from feeling his frustration. his rage.

when the flames finally peter out, freya's cheeks are a warm red from the heat. the salamence drops his weight to the ground and the earth shakes. he stands as proudly as ever, but freya can see the signs of exhaustion in his reptilian face. she recalls him to save him his pride and maneuvers neatly around some of the smoldering field.

"makes me excited for our next match," she says, smiling as she holds out her hand. "mr e4."
