How many was this now? Did it even matter?[break][break]

Drinking quietly with his little Kubfu, a small smoothie for the two, dressed for the winter weather, and all Ashley can think of is how tired he must look. Hard to imagine life a year ago now. But here he was. Alive. And though he was forced to walk everywhere on this stupid cane, he could live with it.[break][break]

It's after the drink, when Law noticed a passerby. Some dude. The Kubfu got up, leaping off the table, and onto the street. A stance at the ready. He was ready to exercise![break][break]

"Law?" his trainer asks, before turning to see the guy, walking away. With a sigh, Ashley scooped up the little bear and caught up with the other guy. "Hey. My little guy here wants to have a battle with you. You up for it?"[break][break]

Honestly? He hoped the answer would be no. He was enjoying his Saturday morning just fine. But this was the Vital City Tournament.

The Vital City Tournament was ruthless to most competitors. It was back-to-back battles with little room for leisure in between. Oddly enough, this didn't take a toll on Roy. He was too absorbed by his own goals. If he truly wanted to master the power of his newly-obtained Key Stone, he wasn't allowed to quit. Not yet.

With his hands equipped to his pockets and his charizard at his side, the draconid was already looking for his next opponent. He didn't expect a tiny little bear cub leaping from a cafe table to initiate a challenge. The display even startled Balmung, but only enough to pull steam from his nostrils.

"What do you say, Balmung?"

Roy layers his words in a scoff. The dragon confirms with a nod and a subtle growl.

"We're in."

There were people nearby, but the roadway had enough room for a battle. They didn't need an arena if the Vital Gear would allow it. The lack of space would put Balmung at a disadvantage, but to Roy, this was a new way to test the sheer strength of Mega Evolution.

Oh yeah, time for a street fight. Today's match? Big, big ol' Charizard. Law was still miffed by his duel against that one woman's Eevee (illeana reyes), so today he was making up for his failure. He's coming at this dragon with intent to win.[break][break]

Sheepish now, Ashley sighs, grabbing at his face and nodding. "Alright then... Law, get ready to lay it down for 'em."[break][break]

Law, leaping upwards, a spin in the air, he lands, preparing his stance. A back stance, paws outstretched, legs apart. The Kubfu smirks at the Charizard. Even if Ash wasn't feeling it, he'll relight that fighting spirit. This road was the perfect way! A street fight![break][break]

The moment the fight begins, it's a split-second stomp into the road with a FOCUS ENERGY, a leap forward to the air, and a downwards divekick in one helluva AERIAL ACE![break][break]

In spite of his challenger's reluctance, the pair appeared to be quick on their feet. To Roy, this was unexpected but a welcome addition. This meant the battle would be short. Even if he did lose, there was less time stress about it.

"Let's make this quick."

Roy's grin orders his charizard forward into the makeshift arena. The cub's flip and unique fighting stance creates a small crowd that starts to surround the vicinity. To further enhance the hype of the audience, Balmung shifts into a battle stance of his own, unleashing another roar that echoes off the surrounding buildings.

Once the fight started, Balmung had little time to react. The small bear was just too fast for him. Balmung couldn't anticipate the dropkick and failed to avoid the move. Instead of taking the time to recuperate from the blow, the dragon decided to retaliate with one of his own. A fist charged with electricity is thrown at his opponent while he's still within range.

It's crazy, watching Law maneuver in midair, as the THUNDER PUNCH comes in, Law can barely see it coming. But he has a plan. Because Law takes it fully, paws fully out in a means to let the blow deliver to him.[break][break]

"Whoa."[break][break]

On the other end, however, Law accepts the strike, and dishes it back twofold with a COUNTER, striking back with as much force as he can to use all of that momentum against the Charizard, using the punch to spin upwards and kick the Charizard in the face, midair![break][break]

Just like his trainer, Roy too is blown away by the kubfu's fighting prowess. Every movement made by the bear is intentional. He left nothing up to chance. If Balmung wanted to keep up with Law, he needed to go all out.

As the thundering punch collides with the bear, he counters with a move of his own. The dragon's neck clicks as it's stretched to its full length by the successful kick. In the process, the charizard's jaw goes limp. The counter was successful, but the battle wasn't over yet.

"Let's take it up a notch."

A fist retrieved from the draconid's pocket initiates a transformation in the dragon. The creature is consumed by light for just a moment and then is returned in a powerful new form. Before Roy could give any further orders, Balmung was already on the move. This time, his fist is engulfed in a blueish flame; akin to the blaze erupting from his jaws.

Take it up a- SHIT. That's Mega. Ash's silver eyes look down the black dragon, the blue flame fist something the Kubfu isn't yet sure of. He needed to test the water, see how well he-[break][break]

Oh.[break][break]

"Law!" The Kubfu takes the fist forward, the attack striking the little bear in the chest, and sending him back. But as the little bear slides, he spits to the side.[break][break]

He didn't hear no bell.[break][break]

Pumping his fist back, the bear races back forward, one helluva leap, a spin kick meant to slapshot the monstrous dragon with another AERIAL ACE, until the bear stops, falling down to the ground, before unleashing the barrage of CLOSE COMBAT to the dragon.[break][break]

The bear wasn't going down that easy![break][break]

Even after he Mega evolved, the bear was still too quick for him. It was as if he was some kind of martial art genius. The charizard would've lost this from the beginning if the scrawny bear cub was a bit bigger.

"Block it."

Roy's order comes right before the strike. Balmung uses his wings to take the brunt of the barrage, but it's not enough to disrupt the blow. Law applies his damage through Close Combat but it's not enough to take the dragon down.

"Now return the favor."

All at once, the dragon instantly extends his wings and flings his attacker back in the process. Before the cub is given a chance the land, Balmung blankets his body in flames and catapults himself forward. The dragon attempts a full-body blitz on his target.

"Crap."[break][break]

The wing came up to take the brunt of the force so effortlessly, and upon being slapped away by the wing, Law begins to spin standing, before the firey blitz comes for him. The little Kubfu's eyes bulge, the full-body about to charge him down.[break][break]

With paws extended out into a guard, there was no time to block fully. The moment the impact happens, only then, does Law have the ability to DETECT. The pain is excruciating, as he's sent backwards. Even the force of the impact alone, sends the poor little teddy bear careening backwards. Except.[break][break]

"Tenfold!"[break][break]

Both paws grab the wing, and use it to flip upwards. Thrown upwards into a two kick COUNTER as an uppercut.[break][break]

This bear was just too fast. Even with Balmung at his prime, Law's movements are just too difficult to keep up with. A successful move means very little if it's so easily countered. The cub took the blow like a champ and returned the favor, tenfold. The dragon had no time to react.

"Move!"

It's too late. The two-kick uppercut yanks the dragon's skull upward, stretching his neck to its fullest length. Instantly, the dragon powers down, reverting back its previous form. Mega Evolution was over.

"Finish this."

Again, the charizard snaps to. The bear's attacks appear to leave no residual effects on him and he's ready to fight back. Immediately, he takes to the air. He prepares for his final strike by providing a stylized aerial loop for the crowd below. This gives him a longer route to increase his velocity.

Law is able to land the shot, but his stance is a little too slow. His feet tremble, and the moment he flips back into a stance, the Charizard snaps back. Mega might be over, but that's still one helluva fire lizard, and the bear has to throw it back.[break][break]

"Keep him back!"[break][break]

Law was a second too late. And though the momentum of the THUNDER PUNCH comes, he attempts to snap back with a little INNER FOCUS, attempting to throw a barrage of paw fists with some CLOSE COMBAT. But one big punch stops him in his tracks. The bear collapses to a knee, as he course corrects to a DETECT. Too little too late. The damage was done.[break][break]

Law is still standing, grabbing onto the Charizard's fist. Unconscious standing up.[break][break]

Ash makes a sigh. This is what he expected... but. Law always did try his best. And Ashley commended that. With a quick waddle forward, and returning of Law, Ash waves out towards Roy. "Thanks for the match, guy." He had to get his hands on one of those Charizard stones.

In spite of the cub's fighting prowess, Balmung manages to secure the final blow and the end the round. Even Roy is surprised by the result, but his arrogance would prevent him from displaying it. He uses his sleeve to wipe away at his lips before walking towards his opponent.

"He's really something else." He scoffs, glancing at the bear locked into position. Balmung confirms the statement with a growl of his own. No handshake is offered, but Roy still finds value in both Ash and Law.

"See you around."
