One down, two to go. It was the second round of Josh's latest on-demand tournament flight, and there had been no update on how close the main arena's tech issues were to resolving. Maybe he would have time to finish this flight before the top sixteen started! He wasn't going to miss his friends battling it out for life-changing sums of money.

Not long after the final match of the first round was over, Josh's name was called for the second round of his flight. He and his Zeraora took their places in their assigned arena, looking to secure another win and get the chance to win another sizable check. "Afternoon! Gym Leader Devlin, but I go by Josh. Best of luck!"

Caesi takes the stage with gusto and overflowing enthusiasm as the crowd roars, a smaller crowd compared to the main stage, but she didn't have a problem with that honestly! Having so many eyes on her at all times was just exhausting, it was a nice change to move to a smaller arena for just one fight. "Caesi! And same to you!" She curtsies slightly as her Iron Jugulis floats up behind her, the lights of its many eyes flickering as it too takes the stage for the fight to commence.

There appeared to be more to this Caesi than she looked; she wielded one of Junji's kind. A Pokémon Josh had acquired recently, he knew little about the species. It may well have been just as rare as Raikiri was.

There would be little time to ponder Rhodium's capabilities, the sound of a horn interrupting any other greetings the two wished to exchange. Josh and Raikiri knew that in the face of unknown opponents, it was best to take them down as quick as possible. The Zeraora would leave no haste behind, flinging its body beneath the rising metallic dragon before BOUNCING skyward at a high rate of speed.

Maybe it's a bit arrogant for her to bring along such a recognizable Pokemon with her to this major public battle, your average trainer would never even see a creature as rare and powerful as this, much less have a chance to fight and catch it. But as a representative of the future it was her duty to put these majestic creatures in the spotlight!

The match kicks off with a bang as the strange cat pokemon leaps into action and tries to slide under Rhodium, but the dark machine is ready and waiting for such a move as it drifts to the right and points its arms at the leaping Zeraora, blasting it with a round of Flash Cannons as it bounces up into the sky!

The barrage of FLASH CANNON projectiles sent Raikiri wildly off course, sending him out of bounds and compounding to the huge blow gravity dealt to the thundercat. He was already in trouble. Just who was this Caesi, anyway? She was good. Very good, and the Pokémon she wielded was rare. It took quite the adventurer to obtain one.

He could not dwell on the anomalous trainer now; he had a match to turn around. If raw speed wouldn't dethrone the dragon, then perhaps the sheer power of Raikiri's lightning-laced PLASMA PAWS would, leaping into the Iron Jugulis. A collision, with how electrified Raikiri was, would threaten to short circuit the three-headed machine completely.

Caesi smirks haughtily as she crosses her arms over her chest, her eyes more focused on Josh than the battle itself as she gauges his reactions. Seems like he wasn't expecting such a tough fight, if he thought this would be some kind of clean sweep for him than he was about to be thoroughly embarrassed!

Rhodium easily manages to calculate the foreign Pokemon's trajectory as it sweeps up and out of its reach, taking to the skies above and raining down on the Zeraora with a storm of Flamethrowers from above, its "arms" raking the battlefield with gouts of flame and setting the whole field aflame to keep the mystery Pokemon's moves tight and controlled!

That Iron Jugulis was so tough, able to withstand the fastest, strongest attacks Raikiri had thrown at it. He knew the mechanized dragon was a tough customer, having raised Junji, his own specimen of the paradox Pokémon. There was one choice the Gym Leader had. Build up as much speed as possible, and end the battle in one ultrafast strike. The Zeraora's QUICKINIUM-Z glowed, a sign to Josh that he wanted to go hypersonic to get out from under the trap Rhodium had set.

Josh denied him the chance, keeping his Z-Glove where it was.

Instead, he ordered the big cat to fight defensively, putting on a huge burst of AGILITY to try to slide underneath the three streams of fire ready to singe him.

Caesi's eyes narrow as the strange lightning cat puts on a sudden burst of speed, its muscles vibrating with electric power as it effortlessly begins dodging the trails of fire Rhodium was putting out. She was hoping to end the battle decisively with this last move, but it would seem like she'd need to put in just a little bit more effort if she wanted this victory. She smiles, that's just the way she likes it.

"Alright Rhodi, lets put our backs into it huh? Whip up the winds and lets see what they've got in store for us!" Xenon calls out as the flames cease, whipping up what fire remained on the battlefield with a billowing Hurricane!

Rhodium's HURRICANE was a powerful move, but it would take time to build up the wind speed needed. It was time Caesi didn't have. "Alright, Raikiri, we're going hypersonic!" Josh cried, exposing the mythical creature to his Z-GLOVE. It and the crystal the electric-type held gleamed a brilliant white, heralding the use of Mauville Gym's signature move.

In a split second, the HYPERSONIC PLASMA CHARGE carried Raikiri from one side of the battle court to the other. Even if Rhodium could dodge paw and claw flying at them at ludicrous speeds, there would also be a line of lightning bolts in his wake, as well as an aural explosion that would rattle the mechanical dragon!

It was the best possible time to use it, Caesi couldn't fault the gym leader for busting out the Z-Move now at this most critical moment. She would have done the same in his position. But she still can't help but get frustrated at this turn of events as the strange yellow beast rips through Rhodium's hide and leaves a score of lightning scars upon its metal frame, putting them both on their last legs in a fraction of a second.

But the battle isn't over yet, it would all come down to this last exchange of blows between the two. "Rhodi, get up high and start prepping for the finale! Time to finish this with style!" Caesi shouts out with a confident smile, completely forgoing her usual method of orders as the Paradox takes to the air once more and starts charging up one last nasty Hyper Beam.

Rhodium's three heads charged up a HYPER BEAM that would leave nasty stings and burns the already huffing Zeraora would never recover from. An attack that required time to charge, though? Big mistake on Caesi's part. Even the smallest split second of time was something the Mauville Leader was used to capitalizing on. He didn't need to overpower his opponents; he just needed to be the one to make the first strike.

With one final heroic gallop, the Zeraora zipped toward the Iron Jugulis in what the Gym Leader expected to be a match-ending QUICK ATTACK. Were it not, his Pokémon would be eating a point-blank HYPER BEAM that could affect performance in future matches, depending on how strong the attack from the Paradox Pokémon was. Raikiri was swift, but was he swift enough to beat Rhodium's attack?

If you're gonna make an entrance, you gotta make it flashy. Just the same, if you're gonna end a show, you gotta end it with a bang. Yeah, it might have been foolish to try and end the game with such a flashy and lengthy move, but when you've got a whole crowd watching and cheering for you... well, Caesi would have felt bad if they didn't get their money's worth.

It's mere milliseconds away from completion and firing when the Zeraora strikes the finishing blow, a brutal backhand to the central head that sends Rhodium tumbling back down to earth in a crumpled pile of metal. The winner is Josh Devlin by TKO, Caesi lets out an exasperated sigh, raises her hands as if to say 'What can you do?", and recalls Rhodium back to its Pokeball.

Josh breathed a sigh of relief as Raikiri's QUICK ATTACK struck just before time expired, making the knockout count. "Phew!" he exhaled, wiping his brow. "You're a tough competitor, Caesi. You'd do well on the Gym circuit," he complimented as he recalled the thundercat.

One more match win, and he would take home yet another nice check. He at first wondered why Gym Leaders didn't get appearance fees for participating in tournaments like this one. He didn't need them to turn a profit. Turning around, he waved goodbye to the young girl. "Hope to see you around, Caesi! You're a pleasure to be around."

"Thanks, it's clear that you've really earned your place as a Gym Leader!" Caesi calls out as she rubs the back of her head, mind clearly somewhere else as she replays the match in her head. She needed to do a bit of research on that weird cat thing that Josh had brought out, she'd never seen a Pokemon like that before. Well no, she'd seen plenty of speedy yellow rodents specializing in electricity, but she'd definitely never seen that specific species before.
