MAUVILLE CITY, HOENN - Mauville Law Enforcement thwarted an assassination attempt on the life of Gym Leader Josh Devlin after a power overload within the Mauville Racing Grounds' main generator caused a sitewide blackout. He was found unconscious on the top floor of the Gym's northmost maintenance building. He was taken by ambulance to Grace Hospital in Mauville City after suffering multiple injuries from what appeared to be Steel-type attacks and a direct hit from a NEVER-ENDING NIGHTMARE. Power has since been restored to the facility, and the Gym will be in operation under a Minor League Leader until Leader Devlin has recovered. He is in serious but stable condition, and is expected to make a full recovery.[break][break]

No criminal group within Hoenn has claimed responsibility, and the Gym Leader was the only eyewitness. The heinous act is still under investigation, and Gym Leaders throughout the region have been encouraged to increase security at their Gyms. The League has not responded to PSPN News' request for commentary. Mauville City Law Enforcement has posted a reward of X,XXX PD for information leading to the arrest of those involved in this high crime. MAUVILLE CITY, HOENN - The final event in the 2022 Chase For the Silph Cup will be taking place under the lights of the Racing Grounds at Mauville Gym, on the evening of October 15. Fifteen of the most talented Gold Class Pokémon racers will be competing for the prestigious title of 2022 Silph Cup Champion and an automatic berth into the 2023 Silph Cup's Platinum Class, the highest level of competition in all of Pokémon Racing across the globe. While fifteen will have the Cup and their professional ticket in sight, only three can punch their way to the Platinum Class, and only one can hoist the trophy, immortalizing their name onto the Silph Cup.[break][break]

Televised coverage of the event will be on PSPN2 and PSPN Classic, and our social media teams will be working hard throughout the event to provide updates on all major platforms. The time trials will be broadcast live on October 13th at 1:00 PM HDT on PSPN Classic. Coverage of the main event will start with the pre-race show at 4:30 PM HDT, featuring Platinum Class racers Ray Brooks and Jody Summers with detailed analysis of the course and each of the fifteen competitors. HEAD PROFESSOR VICTORIOUS AT DRIFT WATERWAY

MAUVILLE BAY, HOENN - Celebrity racer and Head Professor Dr. Eva Morales and Torpedo, her Barraskewda, made their circult debut in the Silver Class on the Drift Highway, and managed to fend off nineteen of the fiercest competitors in her class for the trophy. A complete unknown in the world of Pokémon racing, Dr. Morales' vast knowledge of Pokémon allowed her to pick the perfect Pokémon for the course and know exactly the limits she had to meet. The pivotal moment that led to her victory was her patience at the start of the second lap, saving her Barraskewda's potent bursts of speed for when it really mattered and earning her ticket to the professional Minor Circult, the Gold Class, for the 2023 season.[break][break]

Other notables included Gold Class candidates Raye Higgins, who finished a close second, and Mauville Gym Leader Josh Devlin , Hoenn's Pokémon Racing Federation ambassador, who finished in 15th place. PSPN News' very own Jody Summers conducted a brief interview with the Head Professor shortly after the race.[break][break]

J: Congratulations on your Silver Class victory. So let's start with the big Pokémon in the room. You've had no history with Pokémon racing before, yet you come out to a big event such as this one and take the checkered flag. What got you into Pokémon racing?[break][break]

E: To be honest, I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie! I couldn’t pass up an invite to tear through some wicked turns and test out Torpedo’s speed on a real race course! I do love the rush of the race![break][break]

J: Torpedo is a nice Barraskweda you've got there! The only one in today's field, in fact. You two must have known each other for a long time.[break][break]

E: Torpedo and I have known each other just over a year now, maybe closer to two. He’s one of the first Pokémon I caught when I came to Hoenn. We’ve done some recreational diving together and buzzing around the Water Routes near Lilycove prior to this. We did battle in the Hoenn Star Tournament together![break][break]

J: Now that you've won, what are your plans after your first Silver Class victory?[break][break]

E: “Oh! Well, I haven’t really given it much thought, you know? Wasn’t really uhhh expectin to win. I don’t know . . . I’ll probably enter some more! That was fun! Well, when I have time . . . Head Professor is a pretty demanding job.[break][break]

J: As Head Professor, what are your fields of study? And outside of that, what do you do?[break][break]

E: Well, by trade I’m a veterinarian – but that is a very broad field in and of itself. I uhh mostly study a lot of Hoenn's strange phenomenon. I’ve written a few recently publications on the new pPokémon variants from the distortions and primal energy.[break][break]

J: With people like you studying the large Pokémon that come from the Distortions, your work will inevitably revolutionize the world of Pokémon racing. Such Pokémon have been showing to events in greater numbers, and the community has people like you to thank. With your talent with your Barraskewda and your study of such unusually large Pokémon, have you considered racing full-time? I think you're more than talented enough to turn pro.[break][break]

E: Naahhhh, I can’t abandon my work! But you will certainly see me out on the race track again. Silph Cup here I come!! Watch out![break][break]

J: Truly passionate for your field of study, I see. Hoenn needs more people like you who not only do the work the region needs to be done, but have a drive to do it. There were a couple of rough accidents out there this afternoon, and accidents have brought to light a bit of a controversial topic. There are some who say the rules need to be revised to prevent accidents during races. What are your thoughts?[break][break]

E: It’s certainly heartbreaking when you see a fellow racer and Pokémon hurt themselves. There’s always a top-notch medic team at the ready to give them gold standard care. I think it’s best to critically review the safety standards on a regular basis. Any hiccups or trends should be addressed immediately for everyone’s safety. However, going this fast on Pokémon is inherently dangerous. Each rider knows the risks, along with their Pokémon partner. Obviously, they qualify as well, presenting adequate skill for the course which is also essential to reducing risk.[break][break]

J: Got a message for your TV fans out there?[break][break]

E: I guess I’d say, step outside your comfort zone! Don’t be afraid to try something new. You might be pleasantly surprised![break][break]

HAMMERLOCKE WIZARDS CLINCH PFL PLAYOFF BERTH

CASTELIA CITY, UNOVA - The Hammerlocke Wizards clinched their berth in the PFL playoffs, defeating the Castelia Sabertooths in one of the most exciting finishes in the 2022 football season. Star Hammerlocke kicker Gordy Bledsoe connected from 53 yards on the last play of the fourth quarter to force overtime. On the third play of Castelia's first overtime drive, QB David O'Neal's deep pass floated into the hands of DE Aaron Miles, resulting in a 77-yard interception return and the game-ending touchdown.[break][break]

HOENN RETURNS

OLDALE TOWN, HOENN - The entire region rejoiced as Hoenn's many professional sports leagues announced their return to inter-regional competition for the 2023 season in the wake of the League thwarting the impact of 99943 METENO. Professional sports fans and players throughout the nation likewise celebrated for Hoennians, relieved that the season would not need to be abbreviated due to Hoennian teams not being able to participate.[break][break]

While they will not be able to participate in the 2022-2023 PBBA (basketball) season, Hoennian teams have already committed to rejoining for the 2023-2024 season. Teams have committed to 2023 seasons for the RLB (baseball), PFL (Unovan football), and PLS (football). Individual inter-regional sports, such as the PPGA (golf), the PRF (Pokémon racing), and the Pokéathlon, will also have events located in Hoenn in 2023. An official statement from the regional Council is available on the Hoenn League's website, but League officials have declined further requests for commentary about 99943 METENO.[break][break]

2023 season schedules are forthcoming and will be on each inter-regional sports league's website within the next several weeks. Tickets will go on sale once the schedules are finalized.[break][break]

ISAAC MERLO CROWNED FASTEST IN HOENN

MAUVILLE CITY, HOENN - Isaac Merlo and his green-hued Tauros, Buffaloman, hoisted the 2022 SILPH CUP in front of a capacity crowd at Gym Leader Josh Devlin 's Mauville Racing Grounds. The capacity crowd was on the edge of their seats, sending a message to the nationwide Pokémon Racing Federation that there was more than enough interest in regional high speed sports for Hoenn to have its own division.[break][break]

The young prodigy's performance made him the sensation of the Pokémon racing world, leading almost wire-to-wire, particularly the moment where he skillfully weaved his Tauros through a minefield of EGG BOMBs: almost certainly a moment that would be immortalized in sports highlight reels for the rest of time. Isaac, alongside Razz Kingsman and Gwyar Wledig , earned their cards to compete in PLATINUM CLASS races in the 2023 season, the highest level of competition.[break][break]

No more than a day after the threat of 99943 METENO had been thwarted, the Pokémon Racing Federation gave the green light for a 2023 season to begin, the season's first race to take place in early March at a to-be-determined location within Hoenn. CASTELIA CLINCHES PFL WILD CARD

CYLLAGE CITY, KALOS - Castelia (10-7), with a decisive, 34-9 road win over Cyllage (5-12) in the PFC West, clinched the first of two wild card spots in the 2022 PFL playoffs. Defense was the name of the game for Castelia, DT Peter Herrera tying a franchise record for most sacks in one game with 8. The Unovan team dominated Cyllage on offense, as well, QB David O'Neal throwing for 335 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. They will play Hammerlocke (14-3) in the first round of the PFL playoffs, which will be a rematch of the most exciting Week 13 game of the season.[break][break]

The second wildcard spot is still up for grabs between the Sinnoh teams of Hearthome (9-8) and Veilstone (8-8-1). That game will be broadcast on PSPN on Monday, December 5, at 8:00 PM HDT. The winner of the game will receive the second wildcard spot and play the 1-seed Heahea in the PFL playoffs' opening round.[break][break]

PALDEAN CYCLIZAR RACING LEAGUE MERGES WITH HOENN RACING FEDERATION

MAUVILLE CITY, HOENN - After a lengthy negotiation period spanning over a month, the Paldean Cyclizar Racing League will be merging with Hoenn's Pokémon Racing Federation in advance of the 2023 racing season. Mauville Gym Leader Josh Devlin and a prodigal newcomer to the racing scene, Ned Clark , were largely responsible for the success of the merger. With the invisible barrier surrounding the Hoenn region having disappeared in the events of the Meteno operation, the 2023 Chase for the Silph Cup will have stops in the Paldea and Kalos regions. While Cyclizar is expected to be by far the most popular Paldean species on the circuit, experts say Espathra, Kilowattrel, Palafin, Revavroom, and Veluza will also have a significant impact on the Pokémon racing scene.[break][break]

The final schedule for the 2023 Chase for the Silph Cup will be published on the Pokémon Racing Federation's website (linked below) on January 23, 2023, and will be mirrored on PSPN's website as soon as it becomes available. HAMMERLOCKE ADVANCES TO CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS IN MARATHON

CASTELIA CITY, UNOVA - In an exciting and unusual finish, Hammerlocke upset Castelia, 41-38, in the PFC Conference Quarterfinal. The longest postseason game in over a decade, player fatigue was a big factor in the double-overtime bout between two of the strongest offenses in the PFL. The deciding moment was when Castelia RB Ron Boykin fumbled the ball on a tackle by multiple Hammerlocke defenders, DE Drew Lizotte scooping the ball up and running it 83 yards, down to the 4 yard line and setting up a 22-yard field goal for the win. There are already calls from PFL safety advocates to adopt a shootout-type model for extended overtime situations, in an effort to reduce player injury and do away with ties.[break][break]

PALDEA WINS PLS WORLD CUP IN SHOOTOUT

LEVINCIA, PALDEA - The Paldean football team asserted their dominance in the PLS World Cup Finals after a defense-dominated contest with the Kalosian team left the game scoreless until the third period. With both teams scoring only one goal each, including in extra time, the championship went to a shootout that went to eight rounds to be settled. In nothing short of an exquisite fake-out, the Paldean offense slipped the ball past one of the greatest goalies in the world to secure the victory heard around the globe.

FORTREE CITY HOSTS RACING SEASON OPENER

FORTREE CITY, HOENN - After lengthy negotiations, the newly-merged Hoenn Racing Federation has announced that the 2023 season opener will take place at the Fortree Rescue & Treatment Sanctuary hosted by Alexei Ivanov . While the 2023 Chase for the Silph Cup will have stops in the Paldea and Kalos regions, Hoenn's Birdfather has expressed excitement and gratitude for his Gym ultimately being chosen to hold the highly-anticipated first race of the season. The race is open to any common Pokémon that can bear a rider's weight in flight. Salamence, Staraptor, Braviary, Kilowattrel, and Bombirdier are expected to be popular choices among the many Paldeans looking to qualify for the big aerial race to take place in the rural city. The top twenty-five qualifying times will advance to the big weekend race featuring one of the largest purses in the history of Pokémon speed sports.[break][break]

GOLDENROD ULTRA BOWL BOUND

HEAHEA CITY, ALOLA - Goldenrod (13-5) pulled off one of the greatest upsets in PFL history, defeating one-seed Heahea (16-2) in one of the most dramatic overtime finishes in any postseason game to date. The defense-dominated game only had ten points scored on each side during regulation, a last-second field goal sending the game to overtime. On the final play of the game, a long pass was fought for in the end zone by Goldenrod WR Daniel Dubuque and Heahea DE Anthony Mason. The play was ruled a touchdown in one of the most tense booth reviews in league history. It will almost certainly be scrutinized by fans for the rest of time.[break][break]

The magical journey of Goldenrod's football team will conclude at the Ultra Bowl in Galar, where they will face Wyndon (14-3-1). Expected to be one of the most highly rated Ultra Bowls to date, this matchup is forecast to be viewed by millions worldwide. FORTREE CITY, HOENN - After fierce competition in the time trials, Sonikku (vanessa rosiello ) and her Togekiss have flown their way to the pole after a masterful run on the difficult Ordeal course, overcoming a field of thirteen other qualifying competitors. Many foreign competitors came from the Unova and Paldea regions, though they all failed to break into the field that will comprise the late afternoon race on Monday, March 6. While Kilowattrel was a popular species among those who qualified, experts were taken by surprise when not a single one made the field of fourteen. The course will test every skill imaginable, including burst speed, sustained speed, high bank angles, and even inversions. Pokémon selections in the qualifying field were quite diverse, many fans in particular having their eyes on oscar clayton and his Beedrill, as well as kyle lopez and his Braviary that required special approval from the Hoenn Racing Federation to be able to compete.[break][break]

WYNDON, GALAR - Wyndon rookie QB BRIAN WESTON led Wyndon's football team to their first Ultra Bowl win in a decade after their star QB RAYMOND HERTZ left his sixth Ultra Bowl near halftime with a concussion. His offensive line led Wyndon to make up an 11-point deficit in a big way, allowing the home team to score 24 unanswered points in the best performance in Ultra Bowl history by a rookie quarterback. After much consideration, the Hoenn League Council has agreed to keep Josh within the League as Mauville's Gym Leader. Due to his exemplary history and previously spotless record with the law, we have felt he is still an invaluable asset to the League. As such, he will not face prison time. However, he will have major restrictions placed on his operations within the League, including as an Elite Ranger and a Gym Leader.

The following sanctions are to be levied and enforced against Josh Devlin :

1) Josh Devlin will indefinitely be barred from running for the offices of Head Scientist, Head Ranger, Elite Four, Council, and Top Champion.
2) Josh will be barred from running for the office of Ranger Captain (of any city) until March 3, 2024.
3) Josh will be barred from using facilities at Mauville Racing Grounds, for any reason, until September 3, 2023. He must choose an Interim Gym Leader responsible for taking challenges by March 17, 2023, or he will forfeit his seat as Mauville Gym Leader.
4) Josh will pay a fine equivalent to six months of his pre-tax Ranger salary.
5) The Beedrill Josh used in the attempted murder of Eris Halla will be confiscated by the League for rehabilitation. Pending no further violations, it will be returned to him on March 3, 2024.
6) Josh must complete 4,000 hours of community service. Until these hours are completed or on March 3, 2025, whichever comes second, the Hoenn League will refuse to recognize him as a Champion Ranked trainer. He may continue his Champion Assessment, but in the event he passes, his title of Champion will be null and void until then.

It is strongly recommended that Josh Devlin seeks psychological evaluation for his recent behavior. Ever since the 99943 METENO operation, the Gym Leader's emotional stability has been an area of concern.

SHAWN RICHARDS NAMED INTERIM GYM LEADER

MAUVILLE CITY, HOENN - Mauville Gym Leader Josh Devlin has named Silver Class Hoenn Racing Federation champion SHAWN RICHARDS as Interim Gym Leader at Mauville Racing Grounds until August 31, 2023. He has stated it is due to an internal League matter, and that he is not at liberty to comment further until the matter before the League has been resolved. MAUVILLE GYM MASSACRE LEAVES FOUR DEAD, FOURTEEN INJURED

MAUVILLE CITY, HOENN - Interim Mauville City Gym Leader SHAWN RICHARDS was killed in early April when the Gym came under attack. He was pronounced dead at the scene after being buried in SCORCHING SANDS. Three other Gym employees lost their lives when one of Team Rocket's most wanted, the Mad Dog dorian westcliff , laid siege to the Racing Grounds and overwhelmed Gym security guards. Among the fatalities was head of security NATHAN MARTINEZ. The other two were a male and a female in their late teens whose bodies have yet to be identified. The cause of death for all three was blunt head trauma.[break][break]

Fourteen spectators and Gym employees were also injured, including Galarian Royal Ambassador Elise Calcifet , who suffered grazes from fire Pokémon attacks. She is undergoing treatment for her burns and is expected to make a full recovery. Two of the fourteen injured are in serious condition. While rumors abound that the Mad Dog's motive for attacking the Gym are related to Leader Josh Devlin 's suspension, the League has vehemently denied these claims. "While we cannot speak of the details of Gym Leader Devlin's suspension, the situation has been handled appropriately by the Accountability Department and by the Hoennian Council," a League spokesperson reported during an interview with PSPN DIGEST.[break][break]

An All-Police Bulletin has been put out for the apprehension of dorian westcliff . Law Enforcement have reiterated for civilians not to approach him under any circumstance. He is armed and dangerous. BIRDFATHER VICTORIOUS AT FORTREE'S ORDEAL

FORTREE CITY, HOENN - The "Birdfather" Alexei Ivanov put his mastery of the sky on full display in front of a sell-out crowd at the ORDEAL course at FORTREE CITY GYM. The Gym Leader and his Salamence edged out kyle lopez in the final seconds of the race thanks to a timely Mega Evolution. The Mega-Evolved dragon not only set a new 3-lap course record, but also set a record for the maximum air speed a Salamence had ever achieved in Federation racing history. Mauville Gym Leader Josh Devlin , Julia Davis , lam logan , and Elite Four MATIAS SILPH rounded out the top six.[break][break]

Teams and spectators have raised safety concerns over the Hoenn Racing Federation's high-difficulty courses after collisions left alec foster and oscar clayton and their Pokémon injured post-race. In early April of 2023, SHAWN RICHARDS, the Interim Gym Leader Josh Devlin named days after his deposition, was killed in action. The second Interim Gym Leader he has named, JACKIE MYERS, has failed to perform according to expectations required of Hoenn's Gym Leaders. After several meetings with Leader Devlin and several high-ranking League officials, the Council has determined that a commutation of his sentence is appropriate. This is due in large part to the following:

1) His demonstrated willingness to improve upon his shortcomings, both as a Gym Leader and as an overall League representative.
2) The unfortunate passing of Interim Gym Leader Richards has made finding a qualifying replacement untenable in the short-term.
3) His performance and fierce loyalty to the League, as demonstrated in the Battle of Dewford and other recent high-profile League operations.
4) His improvements in maintaining emotional stability.

As such, the Hoennian Council will be commuting Josh's sentence in the following ways:

1) Josh Devlin shall again be eligible for the offices of Head Scientist, Head Ranger, Elite Four, Council, and Top Champion after March 3, 2024; however, any seats bestowed must be unanimously approved by Commissioner dahlia goode and all members of the Hoennian Council.
2) Josh shall be reinstated as Mauville Gym Leader. His return date will be at his discretion, though no later than September 3, 2023.
3) Accounting for Josh's return to work as a Gym Leader, the number of hours of community service Josh must perform to be recognized as a Champion shall be reduced from 4,000 to 3,000.

STEM SYNTHESIS: NORMAL

From his expeditions to The Border and Ultra Plant, Josh had pieced together a manual that would lead to the creation of a Pokémon of great power and flexibility in battle. It was an attempt to clone the Creator-God Arceus. Of course, all attempts to clone the Creator-God would end in failure. The resulting Pokémon, Type: Null, was still quite strong. While he did have Raikiri, he was finding that the thundercat's battle style was easily countered. He needed something else on par with a legendary Pokémon.

The more he read the manual, the more he grimaced. Everything Shalin Nariya told him was true. While their manuals were quite different, the formula was the same. To synthesize the powerful Pokémon, Josh would need to extract a stem cell culture from a willing Pokémon of each of the eighteen types. Akin to a highly venomous sting, it was unpleasant for the Pokémon, and the pain would last for minutes at a time. He had heard from Shalin's stories that side effects included violent seizures, move loss, Ability loss, the loss of Infinity Energy, and even death.

Josh wanted to cry.

He loved every single one of his Pokémon to death. When Yagyu died, Josh wept for days on end. He even took a dangerous trek to The Border to make sure the Doublade's soul could pass on. It was a horrific ordeal the Gym Leader did not want to go through again. But he had little choice. He needed every powerful weapon he could get access to.

Josh said a prayer to Raikou and Ho-oh before ordering the League scientist he had invited to the small lab they had set up in the basement of Mauville Gym's Operations Center. He had kept the place a secret from even his Gym employees. Not even Elise Calcifet knew of the morally dubious operation that was taking place. "Goroh, please... stay strong. I'm so sorry to have to do this to you, but I know you're one tough Cyclizar. We'll get through this... together," he shed a tear for the dragon-type as illeana reyes's syringe found purchase between the Cyclizar's scales, the repugnant cultivar flowing from the vial, through the needle, and into the dragon-type's bloodstream.

Not long after the medicine entered Goroh, he extended his air sacs outward and whirled them at great speed. The resulting vibration made it difficult for the League scientist to extract the stem cell culture needed for synthesis. Loud mooing came from the normal-type's mouth shortly afterward. Josh winced. This was far more horrible than anything Shalin had ever described of the process; while it was evident that the Cyclizar would survive, the physical and psychological trauma it put one of his prized Pokémon through would scar them both. Was the power of one Pokémon worth it? To Josh, no.

This wasn't his call to make, though; this was the League's call. They needed every bit of power they could get. As much as he didn't want to hurt his Pokémon, he was under obligation to go through with the synthesis. Not long after the extraction had been complete, Goroh relaxed, touched his air sacs toward the ground, and took off... in completely the opposite direction from the exit, slamming his schnoz into the far wall. "Goroh, are you okay?!" Josh cried.

Though the Cyclizar had survived the extraction, something was very wrong with him. Very wrong.

GOROH IS PERPETUALLY AFFLICTED WITH THE CONFUSION AILMENT. THIS HANDICAP CAN BE REMOVED AFTER USING GOROH IN 124 POSTS.

STEM SYNTHESIS: FIRE

The Mauville Gym Leader's fire Pokémon were among his most adored. Flint, Craggro, Braver, Suzaku, Simba, Kovu, and Ixion were all heavily used at his Gym. Deciding which one to put under the knife did not feel good. It was a decision illeana reyes could not help him with; while the at-times cold researcher was quite helpful and reassuring, especially after each dangerous trip to the rifts, this was one he had to make on his own.

Shalin had begged Josh not to go through with the synthesis process. She had spoken from experience. Unlike her, though, Josh had an excuse not to. He already had a Zeraora. He had the power of Infinity Energy at his fingertips already. Lathiel was Shalin's first taste of the power of Infinity Energy. For Josh, this was not, though he felt equally pressured and trapped by the allure of power. His track record on the front lines was not great.

One of these days, he wasn't going to be spared by Team Rocket. What uprising member of Rocket wouldn't want to make the claim that they had captured a standing Gym Leader? If it was the power of a Type: Null (and eventually a Silvally) that made the difference between freedom and incarceration, the well-being of his Pokémon had to take a painful back seat. Even the sight of the syringe hurt.

He made his decision. "Simba," he solemnly said, shedding a tear for the Pyroar that got him through Meteno while Aslan was recovering from his grievous wounds. "can I get a hug?" The Pyroar raised his front paws, and the two embraced one another, Josh afraid this would be the last time he would get a chance to do so with the big lion. The obedient lion sat down next to Illeana, the syringe piercing his skin. With a steady push on top of the syringe, the vile medicine mixed with the Pyroar's bloodstream.

Josh's heart thumped as Illeana slowly pushed the black liquid beneath the Pyroar's skin. As she swapped instruments from a syringe to a drain, Simba began sweating profusely, unable to keep his paws still. His eyes welled up with tears, his facial fur began shaking, and his legs trembled. Seconds after the drain came off, Simba began bucking and kicking harder than Josh had ever seen before. One swipe from his paw in the state he was in could have inflicted serious harm upon anyone.

The fire-type bellowed loudly, feeling like the blood inside all four of his legs was boiling. He briefly wondered if Shalin could survive such a fierce rodeo run. Shortly afterward, Simba tripped over his own paw, slicing into the back of his front legs and finding himself in a bleeding mess on the ground. He had to get the lion to a medical professional, and fast!

The Swampert had done a lot of work for him in the past, though (his excursions with Razz Kingsman came to mind). Unable to decide, he tossed a coin with no regrets. Heads, Winky. Tails, Torvie.

Josh groaned as he saw the syringe illeana reyes held in her hand fill with black, opaque medicine that may as well have been toxic to Pokémon. The pain it put one of his precious Pyroar through was unacceptable. He wasn't doing this by choice, though. To compete with the gods, he needed to either be blessed by one himself, which he had no control over, or seek out Pokémon that could rival the gods. That he had control over. Painful control, but control nonetheless. She vehemently disagreed with the decision the League made, as well. Alas, such was the cost of war.

Unlike Simba, who was somewhat skittish, the female Swampert put on as brave of a face as Josh did when riding his Manectric while the two were in perfect sync. "It'll be over before you know it, Torvie. Just think about the next group of people we'll save together." He rest his hands on one of the water-type's front limbs in an effort to comfort her as the needle pierced her blue skin.

The Swampert's great strength and stamina showed; the edges of her twitching eyes turning red were one of the few signs of the pain Torvie was going through great lengths to hide. The drain came and went, blue stem cells transferred into a vial that would only be unsealed when all eighteen necessary materials were gathered in one place.

It was only after the drain was removed that the ground-type sounded a bellow, unable to hold back a cry from the stabbing pain ravaging her bloodstream. Not wanting to hear a moment more, Josh recalled the water-type. "...Why must the lives of many be upended for one Pokémon?" he mused. He hoped the Pokémon Center's prognosis wouldn't be too grim...

STEM SYNTHESIS: ELECTRIC

If the decision he had to make last time he met with illeana reyes for the stem cell extraction was excruciatingly difficult, this one was almost impossible. Out of all the electric Pokémon he owned, he had only captured two himself. Saber was his very first Pokémon, and putting him under the knife would be unacceptable. Raiden and Raikiri he received in a Pokémon trade. Blinky he got from a breeder, as was Illumina. Jiujiu was far too dangerous and unknown of a species. The scientist had also told him that Ultra Beast cells would likely not work for the synthesis.

That left two Pokémon he loved dearly: Crash, his Boltund, and Blitz, his Shiny Luxray. Both of them were racing regulars, and he had to pick one to potentially suffer a career-wrecking injury. It hurt every fiber of his body, mind, and soul to have to make this decision. "Illeana... this is so painful. Neither of these Pokémon deserves this fate. But with the threat of another Ultra Beast invasion with the way the rifts are expanding, we need as many Type: Null as we can get."

Shedding a tear, he tossed a coin. Heads, his Luxray. Tails, his Boltund.

As the former Avatar filled her syringe with the vile cultivar, Josh began to have second thoughts about having his Luxray injected. It wouldn't be fair to suddenly shift the unbearable burden to Crash after having decided impartially which would go through the short, yet horrific, medical procedure. "I... I can't watch!!" Josh cried, covering his face and turning away. The shaking Luxray had to be held down in order for Illeana to find a good spot to plunge the needle. With utmost steadiness, it pierced the feline's black skin...

A minute passed, and there wasn't so much as a sound that came out of the Luxray's mouth as the drain's whirring started. Two minutes, nothing. Three minutes, nothing. The whirring ceased, the scientist letting Josh know that the procedure was over. Slowly uncovering his face, the Gym Leader noticed the Luxray's cringing face. "Are you okay?!" All he got back was a strong cry, but one of pain.

Hugging his Luxray to try to comfort him, Josh felt the unpleasant texture of drenched fur. The electric-type was sweating so profusely that he had become dehydrated. Blitz collapsed, Josh withdrawing his prized Shiny Pokémon and high-tailing it to Trainer Hill's Pokémon Center for treatment.

BLITZ THE LUXRAY PERMANENTLY LOSES ALL BENEFITS OF THE GUTS ABILITY AND CANNOT GAIN ADDITIONAL ABILITIES.
