A small outing for the Winter season. A snow lodge seemed like the perfect place for his pokemon to enjoy themselves. They'd done well so far, and he figured it was a nice reward for them to get the chance to unwind. Schuyler knelt down and gave his Mabosstiff a firm pat on the head. Despite the snow, the dog seemed fairly warm. He himself had made sure to bundle up. But he didn't want to keep his pokemon exposed to the cold for too long. (Though he didn't seem it, he did care for them to some degree.) As the pair entered the lobby of the lodge, Schuyler approached the dispenser they had and swiped his card. From there, he got a hot cocoa for himself and warm milk for his Mabosstiff.

With the warm milk offered out, he advised the dog to take careful drinks of it. Despite its big, slobbery maw, the Mabosstiff seemed gentle in lapping up the milk. Once the two had enjoyed their treats, he turned his attention to a pair of kids that seemed to be goofing off. Brows furrowed in a sense of disapproval as he pondered where their parents could be. Before he could register what was going on, the young girl threw a cup of water at the boy and completely missed, instead headed for one of the monitors at the check-in desk. It spat and sputtered sparks before it ultimately gave out, but it didn't stop there. Unbeknownst to him, it had nothing to do with the drenched water. Outside, one of the faulty wires upon one of the transformers had finally given in from the surge.

The room went dark, and with the light went the heat. Immediately people started to panic and scramble.

What was the first thing to do in an emergency? Ground one's self. Schuyler immediately took to the front desk and grabbed a notepad and pen to jot down a note. Once he got the gist of things, he folded up the note and offered it carefully to the Mabosstiff. With a few gentle pets, Schuyler gave it orders and sent it out.

"Find help, and if you can't, come back."

After he managed to pry the front doors open, the Mabosstiff bolted to hopefully find an on-duty ranger. The doors were immediately shut again to keep the warmth in.

It did not take long for the Mabosstiff to find , Elite Ranger who was staying in Ever Grande in preparation for what was to be a bitter battle with . The winter environment was harsh; even Aleph's movement were sluggish. He had been warned about the island's northern reaches growing cold in the wintertime. While the temperature patterns had not severely changed when he was there last year, a hurricane largely having to do with that, this year there was a huge threat of power outages. With his many saddled fire Pokémon, he was on duty for rescues from remote residences that lacked power.

Just as the Mabosstiff reached him, the Elite received an alert from the direction the dark-type was running from. Popping open Clyde's Poké Ball, Josh carefully climbed aboard the Flareon, the Eeveelution turning up the heat to keep his rider warm. How would the canine herald the cavalry's arrival?

Once it noticed the ranger in motion, the Mabosstiff turned and began to make a hurried dash back to the ski lodge. It made leaps and bounds to avoid the pine trees blanketed in snow as it finally came to a halt when it reached the doors. After a few loud barks, Schuyler and another person staying at the lodge worked to pull the doors open once again. The Mabosstiff trotted in and looked back to make sure the ranger followed close behind.

Huddled in a group were some parents with their children. Others attempted to use their fire-type pokemon to keep themselves warm. Schuyler himself finally stepped forward and spoke up.

"Sorry to chase you the whole way out here, but it seems there was a power surge. I don't have the know-how to fix it myself, but if you've got an idea on how to fix it, I think there's an electrical box just northeast of here."

He offered the Mabosstiff a low whistle as if to insist it follow along. Schuyler was quick to take the first step out and eye the outside. The snow was becoming more of a problem, so time was of the essence to reach the electrical box to try and give it a temporary repair. A polite flash of his teeth at the ranger came as he spoke up again.

"If you don't mind, I'd like to accompany you. It's looking pretty bad out there, and I'd feel guilty expecting you to go out all on your own."

Schuyler offered a hand out to shake. A blasé comment to break the ice.

"You can call me Finn. I came for a vacation but it seems that's up in smoke at the moment."

As fast as the Mabosstiff was, it wasn't competing with the Master of Faster anytime soon. Clyde looked ready to race the Mabosstiff to the lodge, a few tugs of the Flareon's reins needed to keep his speed in check and ensure they were being led to the correct place. His Type: Null was not far behind them both as Schyuler was quick to greet the Master of Faster.

Fixing a power outage? Josh only had one electric Pokémon on him. It was a scary one, too - rare and unfamiliar to most people. He came prepared to ferry people away from residences while the power company was on the way to repair the panel... not to repair the panel itself. "I'm an electric Pokémon expert, not an electrician. If it's anything beyond draining the power and charging it again, I won't be able to help beyond getting the power company out here. I'm sure you've already called them."

It seemed the young man wanted to go with Josh. "You're welcome to!" he replied with a chipper tone. "Gym Leader Devlin or Elite Ranger Devlin, but you can call me Josh. These two are Aleph and Clyde," he introduced the Type: Null and the Flareon just large enough for him to use as a mount. "How many people are inside? We might need to ferry them to another cabin that's got power if I can't get it up and running with a Pokémon."

Devlin, duly noted. The man seemed affable enough, but he supposed that came with someone who was not only a gym leader, but also a ranger. (He felt sympathy for the man. Did he ever get any sleep? It seemed he had too much on his plate as it was.) He certainly recognized that the man wasn't an electrician in the slightest, but it was best not to chase anyone to the location before they realized what the problem was. Schuyler tightened the scarf around his neck and looked upward to follow the power lines that stretched further west.

"There's roughly seven people in there now. As long as we don't open the doors, they should be fine. We don't want to run the risk of transporting people when we don't know what might be out here."

It was a reasonable thought, but maybe the Gym Leader had a point. Brows furrowed as he tried to make out if there was any present danger. It seemed they had no choice but to trek it. Boots sank deep into the snow as Schuyler followed the gym leader northbound to reach the electrical box. Though the further they traveled, the harder the snow came down. It almost felt as though it was pelting him, but that was a sign that something lay further ahead. After all, it was a little odd that it only seemed to be constricted to one area.

As Schuyler squinted his eyes, he saw the silhouettes of two pokemon battling it out: a massive Abomasnow, and a lone Arcanine. Despite the type matchups, it seemed the Arcanine was in a pinch. To the left of the battle, a few of the power lines had seemed to snap. Seemed that the circuit overload hadn't been the issue after all. It was a relief, to say the least. Maybe they could solder the wires for a quick fix. But for now, it seemed that they needed to take care of this Abomasnow.

A toss of a pokeball let out his Armarouge who charged right towards the Abomasnow with an INCINERATE. While the attack hit, it only seemed to make the Abomasnow more frustrated, and it soon sent the Armarouge flying with a WOOD HAMMER.

Josh raised an eyebrow at Finn's approach. Yes, there were threatening Pokémon out there, but there were so many of them that a prolonged battle would wear the duo down long before they could be whisked away to safety with near certainty. "We might not have a choice, though. I've got Pokémon that can help." Popping open three more Poké Balls, Josh sent out Aslan, Simba, and Kovu: three regal-looking Pyroar outfitted with saddles and bridles. They looked unusually well-behaved for their kind, the lions clearly trained to bear the weight of humans on their backs. "The ones that have the strength to ride a Pokémon can just go with them to the closest cabin that still has power. The rest of them we'll have to defend while help arrives."

The Gym Leader had his Pyroar circle the cabin, looking for an emergency or alternate exit they could melt the snow around without attracting attention from the ice-types. Josh dismounted his Flareon once the three lions had melted the snow around the back door. "Elite Ranger Devlin, but please, call me Josh," the young man introduced himself after opening the door. "Those of you who know how to ride, hop on one of my Pyroar. They'll get you to safety." Two young ladies and one middle-aged men volunteered, climbing aboard the felines and taking off in the direction of the powered cabin a ways away. While the travel was slower-going than it would be otherwise, the fire-types would keep them not only safe, but warm.

Aleph came to 's rescue, slamming into the Abomasnow with brandished CRUSH CLAWS and downing it. The Type: Null didn't stop; unable to discern friend from foe, it continued to hack and slash toward the Armarouge with another flurry of powerful swipes. "Aleph!" Josh called out to his misbehaving Pokémon. "That Armarouge isn't your enemy! Stop!"

It seemed the ranger had a point. Perhaps it was better to get them to safety. With Josh occupied with the transport of the civilians, his focus fell on the battle. That was until the gym leader's own pokemon took to attacking his. Out of reflex, Schuyler felt himself turn to watch the pair. His Armarouge was capable of guiding itself in battle. As the Type: Null that Josh referred to as Aleph lunged at his pokemon, the Armarouge tanked the hit so it could pull the abomination in for a point-blank ARMOR CANNON. Whether or not the attack made contact, Schuyler shouted for his Armarouge to halt.

"Focus on your surroundings! We've got some wires to solder!"

The Armarouge, despite its protest, listened to its trainer and halted its attack against the Type: Null. But unfortunately it seemed the scuffle that involved both the Abomasnow and between the Type: Null and Armarouge was enough to draw out more waves of pokemon. A Houndstone leaped in and offered the final blow to his Armarouge, downing the poor psychic.

"Shit," he spat as he recalled the fainted pokemon.

Unfortunately he had nothing in his lineup that could solder the wires. It seemed it would fall on one of the three Pyroars that Josh had brought. For now, he drew out his Falinks. With the use of ROCK SMASH, the formation began to take out miscellaneous pokemon. As long as the Type: Null didn't go into a frenzy once more, the pair could work on clearing out the horde.
