[break][break] "Hey - oi, Tofu, save some for me!" the Head Ranger chided lightly as he watched the Pikachu's rump wiggle cutely in the air as he "dumper-dived" for munchkins on the bench. Ollie rolled his eyes before walking over to greet their competition, offering his hand out to shake.

“Just call me Gerald.” He shook the man’s hand politely as he tried to feign friendliness. Not that it was a good attempt. His voice resonated with far too much indifference, making it clear to the observant that he was here to fight, not make friends.

Luckily the chipper Absol by his side was more eager to bark a nice greeting to both Ollie and his Pokemon before almost jumping her way over to the starting positions. .

Charming, bright. Too bright, much like the sun Gerald could barely gaze upon Ollie and his friendliness. It annoyed him. But he did his best to not show it, even if his best was kind of bad.

Luckily there was a battle to focus on. And Absol was already doing her best to dodge the trailblaze with a combined DOUBLE TEAM into a Sneaky NIGHT SLASH

Pikachu had her outmaneuvered. Even if she did manage to draw blood. The delivery of the Iron Tail was all but assured as the yellow rodent thwacked the air.

But that didn’t stop Absol. Even should it graze her she would push through, powerful steps keeping herself close to the yellow-foe as she aimed to defeat the Pikachu with a thousand NIGHT SLASH’s.

[attr="class","textbody"] The IRON TAIL is powerful, but the incoming NIGHT SLASH just as much so. Tofu leaps backward as pain springs beneath his tail and he skids backwards against the concrete, body bracing against the pain of blood leaking from his lip.

[break][break] He grimaces, tensing himself for the next command.

[break][break] "You got this, Tofu! Thunder!"

[break][break] Which, of course, it wasn't a THUNDER but an ELECTRO BALL that materializes in the air before him. Tofu slaps his tail down, knocking it forward like a baseball as it goes scorching across the field.

For all the power Absol put into her Night Slash, it was found lacking. Much like the Pikachu, Absol skidded along the ground until she could find proper purchase and course correct.

But once that was done, she set of hoping to turn the tide of battle with another NIGHT SLASH assault or lose in the attempt.

A pulse of power, and suddenly the Pikachu grew in size. While it wasn’t the first time he had seen this gimmick it was still impressive.

“Neat trick. But I don’t need a bigger target to hit!” Gerald replied.

And as he did Absol dove in to try and deliver yet another NIGHT SLASH hoping to topple the giant, for surely it would not be able to move nimbly around.

There it was! The tide was turning Absol could feel it. With the hit of the Night Slash she now felt reassured in her ability to win. She just had to keep it up, even if her Mega-Transformation had reverted by now.

And so as giant gray pillars sprouted from the ground she attempted to dodge, duck and weave, sometimes all too close, through them in an attempt to deliver another cut of NIGHT SLASH.

Meanwhile if Ollie thought Gerald had turned chatty he would be sorely mistaken. In fact, quite the opposite as he turned all that tension inwards letting it boil deep within him.
