Another day, another battle to be fought. Eddie grinned at the thought of it as he paced back and forth across his side of the arena. The previous day had been daunting, but Eddie thought that he was starting to get his second wind... or maybe he was just a little over-caffeinated. He'd found a food cart nearby that had just the tastiest coffee drinks, and he had visited it so often in the last 48 hours that the employees there were starting to recognize him. He considered this as he sipped on his second coffee of the day, eyes flicking between the black bull that accompanied him and the other side of the arena. Maybe Beau could benefit from the wondrous magic of caffeine? [break][break]

Before he could give the thought any serious consideration, his ears perked up at the sound of the approach of his next opponent. Hastily gulping down another mouthful of coffee, Eddie offered a wolfish grin and a casual wave in greeting, [break][break]

[break][break] Shoving his phone into his back pocket, the Head Ranger leaps off the stairs and onto the battle field, just as his Pikachu darts forward ahead of him. Ollie notices his opponent immediately, waving broadly.

[break][break] "Hey! Nice ta meet 'cha, Eddie. I'm Ollie!" The brunette reaches forward to clasp the other with a strong and maybe slightly heavy-handed handshake, grinning. "I'm excited for the battle too."

Alright, this guy was cool. Ollie had offered an easygoing introduction and a strong handshake in a show of pre-battle decorum that Eddie hadn't always experienced during his matches over the course of the tournament. It also took half a second for it to register with him that this guy was actually taller than he was, another thing that he rarely encountered. Perhaps introductions weren't everything, but Eddie got the impression that this Ollie was a real “man's man”, a true gentleman. But on the other hand, perhaps Eddie was just biased, because this fucker was also really handsome. Shoving that particular thought away as immediately as he could, Eddie nodded in response, [break][break]

“Yep, ready to go!”[break][break]

He stepped aside as Beau sidled up to the arena, preparing to square off against the adorable baseball cap-clad Pikachu. The bull snorted and stamped, getting himself WORKED UP as Eddie assessed the situation. If there was anything he'd learned from his battles with CIAN MAHER and kyle lopez , it was that if someone was bringing a disarmingly cute Pokemon to the tournament, it usually meant that they had some kind of weird gimmick up their sleeve. He grinned as he contemplated exactly what might be in store for him, eyes flicking between the opposing Pokemon and his trainer.[break][break]

But now was not the time to get distracted; he and Beau had a battle to win. The bull started the fight in much the way he'd begun many others by charging in with an AQUA JET. Eddie wasn't sure how likely he was to out-speed the little electric mouse, but hey, he didn't have any better ideas of how to kick things off. [break][break]

[attr="class","textbody"] Ignorant to the other's thoughts, Ollie remained a perfect beacon of light to his opponent as they shook hands and started the battlefield. If he had heard them, though, he would agree. Eduardo Hisakawa was already cool. He just had the vibes.

[break][break] When the bell rings, it starts off quick. An AQUA JET that races towards Tofu like a missile.

[break][break] "Dodge!"

[break][break] Too slow.

[break][break] Maybe it's the surprise, or the fatigue of many battles, but the Pikachu is knocked backwards by the force of the attack, getting a facefull of water. He splutters, briefly, before scowling at his opponent. His cheeks spark dangerously before launching out in full force with a DISCHARGE attack.

If this wasn't a competition to see who would come out on top, Eddie would have felt bad for the water-logged Pikachu, but remorse quickly shifted to panic when the sparks started to fly. Even though they were squaring off against a diminutive opponent, type advantages were still a very real thing that both Eddie and the bull had to worry about. The AQUA JET putting them in such close proximity to the little mouse meant that the DISCHARGE was bound to strike with full force. [break][break]

“Beau, watch out”! [break][break]

There wasn't much way to dodge the flying sparks that filled the air, so the bull did what he knew best; lowering his head, horns pointing forward, he charged again at the Pikachu to engage it in a bout of CLOSE COMBAT. If he managed to land the hit, the little rodent would find itself caught in a flurry of hooves and horns. [break][break]

[break][break] The attack comes at them too fast. When the bull charges, Tofu is quickly caught up in a mess of hooves and horns, ones sharp enough to pierce him straight through if he's not careful.

[break][break] "Hey Tofu! Grab on!"

[break][break] Still crackling with electricity, the Pikachu grimaces at the painful attack before trying to maneuver himself ontop of the charging bull's horns. If he gets to the top again, he'll aim another DISCHARGE attack that explodes vibrantly around the battlefield.

The bull lowed in pain as sparks danced across his onyx fur; Eddie found himself wincing at the sound of it. But that would likely be the least of their problems, he noted, as the Pikachu managed to find his way on top of one of Beau's spiraling horns. From here, Tofu had the perfect vantage point to electrocute Beau with impunity. They had to get the little guy off ASAP! [break][break]

“Shake 'em off, big guy!” Eddie called. The Tauros gave a stamp of the hoof and an agitated snort in acknowledgment. [break][break]

Muscles coiled under his bovine hide as Beau began to thrash and kick, flinging his head side to side, bucking like a RAGING BULL to try and loose the Pikachu's grip. Funny, this was the second battle of the tournament where they'd had to resort to such tactics to try and loose an opponent's grip on Beau's horns. Eddie had to stifle a chuckle at the realization that this was, quite literally, not their first rodeo.[break][break]

[attr="class","textbody"] Tofu is stubborn, doing his very best to cling to the bull's horns, but stubbornness only goes so far as the pokemon begins to thrash wildly about. Eventually, his grip slackens and the pikachu is thrown afar, slamming against the ground as he tumbles backwards in the dirt.

[break][break] "C'mon, back up again!"

[break][break] He doesn't need to be told twice. In fact, he doesn't need to be told at all.

[break][break] Tofu is already back on his feet by the time that the n-syllable pops out of Ollie's mouth. He shakes his fur free of dirt, electricity crackling around his small, fuzzy body.

[break][break] However rather than engage in that rodeo again, he tries something else. The ground beneath them shakes when suddenly the crest of a wave emerges behind him, ressurrecting a SURF aimed to drown.

There were a lot of weird tactics that Eddie had seen opponents use over the course of the tournament, so he shouldn't have been as surprised as he was when he witnessed Tofu conjuring a wave of water out of what looked like the god damn aether. A Pikachu shouldn't be able to do that, right? Eddie's brows furrowed in quizzical disbelief. Well, there was no use getting hung up on the specifics; there was still a battle to win. [break][break]

On the bright side, Beau was now literally in his element. The bull charged back at the Pikachu, drawing in tendrils of water that snaked and coiled around his body like arms seeking embrace. He was gearing up for a WAVE CRASH, throwing every ounce of strength into an attack as powerful as the crashing of the fiercest of tides... Or at least, that was the goal. [break][break]

[break][break] Ollie had never seen these special Taurus before. At least not out of this tournament. He was from Kanto, where Taurus were typically brown and not all that great at trodding water.

[break][break] So it had him jaw-dropped to see the rapid way that the pokemon charged through the surf, water-whips lashing out him as he if he was a Greek god who could command it.

[break][break] "Oi! Tofu - watch out! Electrocute him before he hits!"

[break][break] Obeying his trainer, the Pikachu's cheeks crackled with light as a thundurous DISCHARGE attempted to ensnare the other before the WAVE CRASH could strike.

This must have been his foe's plan all along, Eddie thought as he watched sparks fly once more. It made sense; creating a watery environment through which the electricity could travel further and with greater potency was a tactical setup he had not anticipated. He sighed with frustration as he heard Beau bellow angrily in pain; it looked like they both still had a lot to learn about battling. [break][break]

They were still in the game, though. While the bull was still reeling from the powerful DISCHARGE attack, now was not the time to call it quits, [break][break]

“C'mon Beau, you can do it!” Eddie cheered, “You still got this, big guy!” [break][break]

The bull huffed with agitation as he swayed on his hooves, taking only a brief second of respite before charging back at the Pikachu. He was tired and sore and absolutely sick of being shocked by the little rodent, so every once of strength he had left was poured into the CLOSE COMBAT attack that he aimed straight at Tofu. Even if the strike was unguarded, the bull was too intent on landing the hit to care.[break][break]

But the battle wasn't over yet, which was made more obvious by the way the bull growled at him and charged once again. Ollie knew that they could only hit so many hits before it was over.

Eddie knew it was probably going to be a weird battle, but he hadn't expected the Pikachu to turn into a god damn kaiju. Tofu, in his expanding size, rose above the arena, looming over them like an adorable portent of world-ending calamity, and Eddie was at a complete loss of what to do about it. He watched, dumbfounded, as sparks danced across the arena, the air so dense with crackling static from the G-MAX VOLT CHARGE that it made the hairs on his arms stand on end. [break][break]

If Beau was similarly phased by the spectacle, he didn't show it; he simply took advantage of the foe's larger size to and tried to dig into the Pikachu with a series of DOUBLE KICKS. Maybe there was no coming back from whatever shit they currently found themselves in, but the bull would be damned if he didn't go out swinging.[break][break]

[attr="class","textbody"] Though they'd done it many times by this point, Ollie was still always amazed (and admittingly, if he thought too much about it, a little fearful) of the sheer power that Dynamax could cause. It definitely made him feel like they weren't just in an ordinary battle anymore, that this was the thing that could turn the tides in battles like the one that he'd fought against Cillian Quinn on Route 105 with PENELOPE LIVY.

[break][break] Luckily, it was useful in circumstances like this too.

[break][break] "He's coming for you, Tofu!" he shouted, cupping his hands over his mouth. "Get ready to knock 'em back!"

[break][break] As the bull came charging for him, the DOUBLE KICKS knocked powerfully into the giant Pikachu's body. But Tofu wouldn't budge, stubborn as ever. His lips twisted into a sharp grin before he bellowed out a MAX LIGHTNING, illuminating the arena in a fierce display of light.
