The five foot six blonde stepped up to another battlefield. The skies still stormy and thundering, but no rain. All very atmospheric for hopefully a good battle. If nothing else, for a hopeful win. He hadn't been doing well these last few rounds. Throwing a pokeball, he released his Paldean Blaze Breed Tauros. Rearing up and stomping down hard enough to crush anything underneath. "I'm Raju, and this is Big Bert." A man of few words, he was ready for whatever was next. And they were hungry for a win. And they weren't going to make this easy for this one. Hopefully...he really didn't have a good showing the last few rounds...

Another match is lined up for them, though by that point Lam is about ready to take on the role of observer for the remainder of the tourney. Or find the time for a quick Power Nap in the haven of his office, tucked away in the depths of Lilycove’s gym.[break][break]

But that doesn’t mean he won’t give this fight a good go! His pidove flutters out to meet the Paldean Tauros with a friendly chirp, and Lam’s own hand lifts to wave lazily at the young man. “Heya! I’m the Lilycove gym leader, Lam, and this here’s Poppy!” He shoots a thumbs up, grin tugging at his mouth, “Let’s make this a good match!”

What approached him was not what he expected. First was the choice of Pokemon...a Pidove. A little guy, sure, but not a cute one or particularly nimble. From what he knew anyways. The man himself was Lilycove's gym leader. Well, hopefully Raju can give a better showing than the one that employed him. Returning the thumbs up, he waited for the match to begin. When it did, Raju started off with a Flame Charge, the bull moving surprisingly fast while being engulfed in flames to run over the birb. Problem with birbs of any size was flying out his way. Like little cowards. He didn't like most birb Pokemon. Hopefully BB can end this pretty quickly...

It was a good thing that Raju didn’t voice his opinion aloud, because Lam would’ve been quick to argue as to why pidove were some of the most adorable little birds to grace their world. There was a reason he had a whole flock of them, and Poppy was the queen of them all.[break][break]
What was expected of her was likely opposite to what happened next. He tapped the Tera orb in hand to allow her the chance to be encased with dragon Tera energy. As the tauros charged at her, the little pidove squared up, and then flew headfirst at him herself. Rather than swerve away, she threw herself into a swinging DRAGON HAMMER.

They terastalized into a dragon type. Great...now it resisted his fire type attacks. But what surprised him was her flinging her little body at the Tauros with a Dragon Hammer. What?! Since when could a Pidove learn Dragon Hammer?! The attacks hit each other head on, sending shockwaves around. So instead of being fast and nimble, this one had power. Soon, the Tauros barely won out that exchange. Keeping up the pressure, the big guy charged again with psychic energy surrounding his head for a Zen Headbutt. Maybe he'll get a flinch out of that? So far luck hasn't been on his side...but you gotta get lucky once...right?

“Full of surprises, isn’t she?” he chirped, obviously entertained by the surprise that flickered across the younger man’s face. Lam laughed, though not unkindly. She was a gem, this particular pidove. She flapped her wings, trying to dispel the last wisps of flame before the tauros was charging her again.[break][break]

Big Bert’s forehead smacked the pidove, sending her comedically flying– dizzy from the impact of that psychic charge. Not that Pops was gonna let that keep her down! She squared up against the tauros again…only to flicker from sight once again. Making use of the shadow cast by the bigger pokemon, the pidove cloaked herself and SHADOW SNUCK up on the bull to launch a hit from behind.

"Most little guys are nimble and have just enough power to be a threat. Your little guy has power and durability. It's an interesting change." The Zen Headbutt slapped the little Pidove hilariously back. She did recover enough to not slam into the ground, but also shook it off enough to disappear into shadows in a move that he recognized. BB prepared a Close Combat attack for when she popped back up again. Even if he suffered an attack, hopefully it'll leave an opening for the bull to exploit.

“Yeah! That’s why I like working with birds— I think they’re a lot more versatile than a lot of people give them credit for!” Though it’s late into the tourney and Pops isn’t holding up quite as well as she had earlier on. The fatigue is definitely there.[break][break]
So when she reemerged from the shadows, the tauros was easily able to batter her away. So much for a surprise maneuver! Regaining her bearings in the air, the pidove swooped around in a wide circle and sent a volley of hurtling AIR SLASHES his way.

Raju certainly learned that. He may have had a Kilowattrel, and was planning on getting more flyers, but maybe he should give them a bit more credit. When the bird reappeared, Tauros was fast enough to batter her away, then surged forward through the Air Slashes to get her again. That ended the fight. She still gave a good showing. Returning the victorious bull, he still went over to Lam, and offered a hand. "Something for me to consider as I fill out my team for being a gym trainer at Mauville. Good match, and thank you." With that, Raju would leave to get BB checked out.
