dragons have been terrorizing the place lately, and it's the recent attacks on the cable car that escalated the situation enough for people to call in help.

kyle responds to it, mostly because he'd rather be the one to contact the person who feels close with the volcano.

ur favorite place is under attack. s.o.s.!!!

the message he sent him was exaggerated to a point of a joke, but he does want matias around for this operation. besides, he's sure he'll be happy to be around mt. chimney again.

kyle sits around by the entrance of the top station of the cable car to be visible. his eyes wander to the skies, where he watches a bunch of dragons flying around recklessly.

with kyle lopez giving him the perfect excuse to leave the confines of his ranch, matias makes the trip all the way to mount chimney, arriving promptly as though it's a route he travels often enough to know all the shortcuts.[break][break]

sticking close to the surface of the mountain, charizard breaks through the clearing eventually, parting clouds before landing on top of the station. it lets out a torrent of FLAMETHROWER, announcing its arrival.[break][break]

he looks up to find the elite four member arriving in record time.

"yeah, these dragons are fucking up the place."

kyle steps out of the building with his mightyena into the open, taking the sight in. there's a swarm of them circling the volcano, reminiscent of the one trip he had where they rescued tourists from an overheated locale.

"i can shoot them down one by one, but i need a more permanent solution. i figured you're more of an expert on intimidation tactics."

he takes out a stack of flashcards bound by a metal ring, something akin to a student's study material.

"i've been trying to talk to them in draconic, but apparently, my pronounciation's off," he tells matias. "it's that or i'm just not imposing enough."

the associated adjectives are left unsaid but kyle lopez would know them. it wouldn't be the first time matias has called him cute.[break][break]

"i'll call groudon out. this is its domain, after all."[break][break]

he finds the right pokeball with ease, able to locate it just from the heat it exudes on his belt, but where he normally would just call it out, he stops, turning to kyle to ask:[break][break]

"is that an okay plan?"

control is the wrong word. any attempt to do so will result to a losing match of a power struggle, which is something matias has already experienced.

then again, was groudon able to reason with the likes of them?

"objective is to chase them off. maiming or injury isn't needed. they're wild pokemon anyways. they'll be chased off with a show of force."

he turns to matias, watching him ready the pokeball. it felt wrong calling this situation a practice when groudon has its own sentience, but kyle has no other word for what else matias was going to do.

"i haven't seen you work with groudon lately, so this puppy's just going to watch."

in a way, he already did his part. terrakion had been escorting wild pokemon away from the vicinity in the background after being told by kyle that he's going to do something with the terrorist problem.

he almost said apex but that felt a little too cringe even for him.[break][break]

for a moment, as he palms the pokeball, ready to crack it open, he hesitates, second-guessing himself if this is truly the best way to approach this. he doesn't have groudon under control, after all, and he would hate to risk that in kyle lopez's presence.[break][break]

his relationship with ho-oh differs greatly from others with their patrons. to say he understands the situation completely would be a lie.

hands go on matias' shoulders as he massages the elite four for being surprisingly stiff.

"why so tense?" he asks. "come on, man. this is, like, something you always do."

one last slam of his hand on his shoulder is left by kyle and then he lets go.

without meaning to, words leave his mouth. there's an attempt to read the meaning behind the click of his tongue. the shift in mood after releasing groudon wasn't lost on kyle after all.

"besides, you got the one guy that can stop you if things go south again."

he's tense for a multitude of reasons powerful enough to shake the crumbling foundations he has struggled to stand on. as GROUDON rises up to tower over them, claiming the mountain as its own, matias is dwarfed in its shadow, feeling an immeasurable amount of pressure weigh on him. kyle lopez's massage does little to help. if anything, it does the opposite.[break][break][break]

he has never wanted a SYGNA SUIT more than he does at this very moment. his head shakes in gentle defiance, knowing he still has a small window of time to delay the inevitable.[break][break]

until then, groudon turns to address the dragon infestation.[break][break]

it sounded so simple as it leaves his tongue.

kyle cranes his neck up to watch groudon rise. dragons already react to the goliath that was ready to protect what it has.

"isn't that how it is for you the entire time?" he reminds him. "when you want something, you make it happen yourself."

it fails more often than not, but the champion recognizes effort.

it's the one trait that kyle can sympathize the most from matias. though he doesn't have the greed that the volatile has, he follows the same ideology when a target presents itself in front of him.
