Thomas had gotten the call about an attack on a dig site. The attackers were currently unknown, but what was known was that the crew was stuck at the dig site. The potential hostage situation made an already difficult situation more difficult.

Before Thomas stepped in himself, a Lucario surveyed the area from the shadows. The Lucario carefully studied those attacking the dig site, taking note of their numbers, both human and Pokemon. His Aura powers allowed him to ping the area, taking note of the different auras within his radius. More importantly, Cobalt attempted to locate the crew.

If he could find where they were kept, or hiding, then he could at least direct Thomas towards them. Ideally, he'd help them escape the site, and pave the way for Thomas to wipe out the attackers.

Eddie knew coming out here was a bad idea. [break][break]

For one thing, he'd already found himself at odds with the foreman's decision to send him and a small handful of guys out to Fortree. It was far beyond their typical area of operations, but work had dried up in the winter months around Rustboro, and the old cueball was desperate to keep the funds flowing in. [break][break]

For another thing, what had started as a routine excavation job had turned into a whole other headache when he and the boys uncovered some old bones in the spot that their client's future septic tank was supposed to go. He had been more or less forced to be the guy to contact the authorities (“c'mon Eddie, you're a real people person!”), and subsequently obligated to babysit the archaeologists when they came to do their initial inspection of the site. And now, of course, the day that he was supposed to meet those stuffy old bastards, he arrived only to stumble upon some kind of raid. [break][break]

He'd been wary enough to notice that something was wrong when he approached the cordoned-off area, catching glimpses of unfamiliar figures trekking back and forth from the site. That wariness turned into outright suspicion when the shouting began, the sounds of a struggle obvious even in the distance. He had half a mind to join the fray until he heard the sound of a sharp crack. [break][break]

Ducking behind a truck loaded with all manner of science-y equipment, Eddie took a moment to assess the situation as he cautiously peered out from whatever opening he could find. The presumed archaeologists were now bound near the center of the site, a small handful of figures and their Pokemon looming over them. One of them bellowed into a phone, making demands in exchange for the archaeologists' lives. Eddie's hands clenched into fists at his sides when he noticed a particularly old member of the archaeological crew with a nasty gash near his receding hairline. [break][break]

Eddie's blood was fucking boiling. Who the hell did these assholes think they were, taking a bunch of geezers hostage? He ground his teeth in agitation as he surveyed the area from his hiding spot; as god damn furious as he was, he couldn't take on a whole crew of goons on his own. Hell, he wasn't even sure how well he could stand up to just one of them. His eyes peered searchingly into the distance, desperate for some means to right this egregious wrong.

The bad news was that the attackers managed to round up the archeologists at the center of the dig site, keeping them bound and guarded. Several humans and their Pokemon were looming over them. The silver lining of the situation was that they were concentrated in one place, so as soon as Thomas could get them out, they had free reign to tear through the rest.

Interestingly, Cobalt picked up the aura of another man hidden behind some equipment. No doubt a straggler who managed to somehow escape the notice of the attackers. The Lucario could pick up the man's anger upon seeing the state of the hostages.

Though the Lucario could rush in with his Extreme Speed, and take out the guards, coordinating the hostages, once they were freed, was another problem. One that Thomas himself was better suited to solve.

The Lucario rushed back to where his master was camped out, just outside of the area.

"What'd you find?", Thomas inquired.

The Lucario marked the targets on a map. Dots for the hostages, grouped around the center, x's for the hostiles, guarding the hostages, and those taking other rolls. And a question mark for the unknown third party.

"Good work, Cobalt.", Thomas commended the Lucario.

Thomas sent out two more Pokemon, an Annihilape and a Ceruledge. "Ralph, Mordred, follow Cobalt's lead. He'll direct you to here and here respectively.", he told them, pointing to different parts of the map. "When Cobalt's in position, and he rushes them with Extreme Speed, close in and take out the hostiles. We need to secure the hostages.", Thomas told the two of them.

The Lucario began to guide the duo around the perimeter. The fact that the two were Ghosts allowed them to keep up with the Lucario's stealthy approach.

Thomas followed after them. Thomas not only kept an eye out for guards, but also the unknown third party his Lucario pinged. The last thing he'd need was an angry man blowing his cover.

Eddie could have sworn that he caught a brief flicker of movement out of the corner of his eye. He turned, catching the briefest glimpse of blue that whirled into the distance. What the hell was that? Was that another one of these criminal goons? [break][break]

He didn't have much time to consider this as the sound of heavy footfalls pulled his attention away. It was only just then that he realized that the head asshole near the hostages had ceased his bellowing, and there was a conspiratorial muttering from the pack of criminals. Their guard was up, he realized, and a couple of their group had been sent to canvas the area. One such member of the criminal gang was heading his way, just a moment away from turning the corner around the truck and spotting him. Had he somehow blown his cover, or was there something else that had their suspicions raised? [break][break]

Either way, it was a tough position to be in. There was no way he could run off without drawing some attention, but he was on the precipice of being spotted regardless. Eddie quietly adjusted himself into a crouching stance behind the truck, arms extended, as he waited for the guard to round the corner; if he was going to be caught either way, he was bound and determined to go down swinging. Maybe those old junior varsity wrestling skills were finally going to come in handy.

As Thomas continued to creep through the dig site, he'd spot a guard heading over to the equipment that the unknown party was hidden behind.

If he were less scrupulus, Thomas would've allowed the man to sort it out himself. After all, if the guards were occupied with the man they missed, it'd give him and his team a window to move in on the hostages. Not only did he not want to throw a potentially innocent man under the bus, but he didn't know how they'd act on high alert.

Upon finding a good spot to duck behind, Thomas brought out his Joltik, Byte, from her Pokeball. Thomas gestured to the Joltik to climb onto his wrist. Thomas steadied his wrist, allowing the Joltik to take aim at the man.

Finally, once the timing was right, Thomas signaled to the Joltik to fire an Electroweb at the guard. Thanks to her Compound Eyes, hitting the target was child's play to the tiny spider. Whether the elecrical shocks knocked the man out, or the man in hiding took the opportunity to knock him out, Thomas attempted to give the man a thumbs up, before creeping towards his destination.

Mordred, Ralph, and Cobalt were already in position, overlooking the hostages, and their captors.

Before he had a chance to spring into action, Eddie found himself just as bewildered as the patrolling guard when a shot of electrified webbing ensnared the criminal. The guard let out a choked cry as electricity coursed through him, the man knocked out almost instantaneously by the strike. Eddie caught him as he fell and dragged his unconscious body further behind the truck; out of sight, out of mind. [break][break]

Eddie didn't have to think long to understand the implications of this guard's bug-based tasing; there was someone else out here, and they were on Eddie's side. It wasn't the cops, that much he could be sure of, because otherwise there'd be a whole god damn squad of them out here, hooting and hollering like a troupe of wild Mankeys. Maybe it was some kind of solo operative, someone who could work with discretion and finesse. Eddie chuckled to himself at the thought as he peered back at the group of thugs and their hostages. [break][break]

Well, if there was some kind of expert out here taking out these goons, far be it from Eddie to cramp his style. But if Rambo needed backup, he'd be waiting in the wings to help crack some skulls.

Thomas grinned as the man behind the truck caught the webbed up goon, and dragged them behind the truck. Despite the lack of communication, it was good to know the other man's head was in the game.

Upon getting into position, Ralph melded into Cobalt's shadow. Thomas took a moment to study the positioning of the hostages from his hiding place. Finally, upon determining the most optimal hostage, Thomas pointed Mordred towards the bound scientist.

Mordred, focusing on the particular hostage, swapped places with the man with an Ally Switch. The men taking the site hostage were surprised when one of their prisoners was quickly replaced by a vicious-looking Ceruledge.

This was the signal for Cobalt to rush the hostage takers, ramming and striking them down in a burst of Extreme Speed. Following up on this, the Annihilape emerged from the shadow of the Lucario, striking the Pokemon of the hostage takers with Shadow Sneak.

Thomas quickly tended to the hostage, shushing him quickly, as he took a knife to the man's bonds. "You're safe now, and your colleagues are about to be.", Thomas assured the man.

If the worker wanted to join in on the carnage, he had plenty of chaos to take advantage of in the moment.

Holy shit, Rambo had quite the impressive squad! It was a little like watching a dance; the coordinated strike of the Ceruledge, joined by the Lucario and Annhilape in a violent duet, all in concert to quickly dispatch some of the assailants and rescue the hostages. Then there was Rambo himself, the man that Eddie assumed had been setting up this rescue effort from the start. It made his heart warm to see the old man with the head injury tended to first; hopefully that guy would pull through this venture without any lasting damage. [break][break]

That was when Eddie noticed a couple of the thugs break away from the group, fleeing in his direction. Were they calling in reinforcements, or were they just trying to escape justice? Either way, Eddie's face broke out into a grin; it was his time to shine! [break][break]

He stood up, taking a couple steps back, before charging out from behind his cover with as much speed as he could muster. Eddie leapt forward, feet first, and was ecstatic to find that his timing had been just right. He nailed the both of them with a powerful dropkick, sending spittle and a couple of droplets of blood flying into the air when the leaping strike hit home. Eddie landed hard on his hip (ow, God, that hurt a lot worse than he thought that was going to) and scrambled to his feet, hand moving to the Poke Ball in his pocket. If any more of them tried to make a break for it, they'd have both himself and Stella to deal with.

Bitter Blades sliced into the nearest opposing Pokemon. Meanwhile, Cobalt, manifesting a bone staff out of his Aura, beat down several of the goon's Pokemon in a violent Bone Rush. Ralph took the heat from his allies, allowing himself to tank any retaliation that came his way, empowering the Rage Fists he'd use to pulverize those who remained.

With their plans having gone awry, the hostage takers scrambled. While the worker took out a couple with a dropkick, Thomas' Joltik began to ensnare a larger group of them in a wide Electroweb. Just like the first goon who had fallen, the electrified webbing knocked the thugs out.

While Thomas finished patching up the injured scientist, Mordred's blades sliced apart the bonds of the remaining hostages.

The last of the hostage takers quickly fled for the exit, desperately trying to escape the surprise attack they endured.
