All these legends are fighting for the sake of people, their politics, their ideals, their thirst for power. [break][break]

"Gettin' stronger, Ai."[break][break]

The little seedling tenses her vines, readies herself to fight. She wants to be stronger like her late mother. To protect people, like her mother did. To lay down her life to fight evil, like her mother did.[break][break]

How much has she put that into her head? Would she have led a peaceful life if she hadn't been told stories of the way her mother lived?[break][break]

"Gotta push yourself a lil bit every day to maintain your strength. That's how you build on your gains."[break][break]

They're of the same mind, she thinks, brushing those concerns aside. [break][break]

But like Navy said, it's a power imbalance. Pokemon's hearts are so pure they just want to make the people in their lives happy. If that means fighting, they'll do it. They'll do anything. They're a reflection of their partner.[break][break]

Or, maybe that's not it at all. Maybe it was already written before it began, and Ai will end up like her mother. Just like Tsubaki will.[break][break]

A yip of pain, and vines quickly grow across its body, dragging it to the ground.[break][break]

Baki walks up to the woobat struggling to free itself, ripping the vines away and letting it flutter off into the night. [break][break]

"A clean takedown. Time to find out if that was just luck."[break][break]

She grins back at her Bulbasaur, who carries a determined look on her face. [break][break]

Immediately, the seedling lets out a snarl and reaches out to grasp at the air with her vines, ensnaring the bird before it can get away. It falls to the earth with a thud, Ai pulling at her tangled vines.[break][break]

"Good. But you wanna remain coordinated throughout, don't get lazy on the follow-through. Gets you all tied up."[break][break]

Baki instructs her, walking up to the small bird and watching it flutter helplessly, tangled in the knot. Its struggle only makes its plight worse.[break][break]

She takes pity on the thing, touching a ball lightly to the rookidee's body. So exhausted trying to free itself, it barely struggles against the capture.[break][break]

"Now you can untie yourself, can't you?"[break][break]

Baki watches as her bulbasaur deftly untangles the loops in her vines, retracting them into her bulb. Once she's ready to go, they set off again.[break][break]

Baki holds out her hands. The seedling stops, watching carefully. [break][break]

A handful of bait, and the surface of the water erupts immediately, splinters and tatters of rope collapsing into the pond. A giant pink body rises into the air, locking calm eyes with them both, before it slaps the surface and swims deeper again.[break][break]

"... Can't trust what's hiding beneath the surface. Always be careful."[break][break]

Baki kneels down, inspecting the damage.[break][break]

"Think it got enough, though. Gimme a leech seed, build a bridge across."[break][break]

Ai nods, swiftly planting a series of vines that intertwine and build another way across the swamp. Baki heads confidently across. Ai eyes the pond with suspicion, but she crosses as well.[break][break]

She hisses under her breath, and the seedling hums affirmatively. A rustling, and she closes her hand round the orb at her hip. She can hear its approach.[break][break]

"Bitter."[break][break]

Just like her. She swallows the cloying scent, follows it with her nose, and tosses a ball.[break][break]

The light illuminates her way, and the ball dings, scent disappearing completely. [break][break]

"Hah. Lucky shot, I guess."[break][break]

The bulbasaur at her heels nods, twisting vines reaching the canopy to part the branches overhead and let in a little light. Baki reaches for the ball.[break][break]

"S'pose we'd better keep on going. C'mon."[break][break]

"Oh... Hello."[break][break]

She holds still as she watches the pokemon emerging from the red ball. No, rather, the apple. Not her pokeball after all. That's right, the ones she'd been using had a camo pattern on them.[break][break]

"You wouldn't wanna come with us, would'ja?"[break][break]

The wyrm inside the apple blinks, watching carefully. Then, a pleasant scent fills the air. Ai's pollen fills the air just in time, calming the creature's visible tension.[break][break]

It lets out a sigh, withdrawing into its apple. Baki touches a ball to the apple, waits for it to struggle. [break][break]

"... Guess it's decided, then. Wouldn't happen to know where the other ball went, huh?"[break][break]

The bulbasaur scans the forest floor, stopping and setting her eyes on something...[break][break]

[attr="class","star2tsu4"]A bulbasaur walks out of the brush, beady eyes staring back at Ai. The bulbasaur stares at it, confused.[break][break]

"What's that, girl?"[break][break]

Baki looks down, notes the identical copy. Down to Ai's unique coloring, so it seems. But she's got different looking eyes. For some reason, though, Ai looks at her warily. [break][break]

"Ain't bulbasaur rare in these parts?"[break][break]

But this was the safari. Anything could appear. [break][break]

Ai takes a step forward and growls, snapping at the air with her vines. The dejected copy takes a step back, and that's when Baki notices it.[break][break]

The scent of pollen in the air hasn't changed.[break][break]

"... Hah, so that's it? You communicate by smell, don't'cha? Then, if this one ain't usin' any pollen..."[break][break]

The vines snap the foreign bulbasaur and its form flickers for a moment, before it pieces itself together. Immediately, Baki's hand goes to her hip.[break][break]

"Shit... you ain't a bulbasaur at all, are ya?"[break][break]

Just letting those words spill out, and the seedling transforms into something bigger, fire igniting the tip of its tail. A charizard stands in the middle of the forest now, spreading its wings wide and roaring.[break][break]

... just to catch a ball in its mouth. [break][break]

It disappears, stuck in the orb. Fake strength not enough to break it free. [break][break]
