he is jealous, to say the least, because compared to what he has over at the weather gym, navy's elite four chamber looks like a decent upgrade.[break][break]

That dahlia goode and her League allowed him this indulgence, even if some of the construction funds came out of his AQUA money, is a miracle. It makes his stays in Ever Grande easier, especially given how the plush leather couch folds out into a bed.[break][break]
“Figured I’d be seeing you here, after your performance in the tourney.” Looking down at Hopps, both trainer and Urshifu give the Pokemon a respectful nod. “Wish Ribbit was here. Seeing him serve this big guy a slice of humble pie’d be fun.”[break][break]
Shuwen, for his part, doesn’t laugh. The fighting master simply stands there, no expression on his burned face. His eyes drift from Hopps to the ring at the center. Given the surroundings, it feels more like being entertainment in a bar than a real fight, but that’s how Navy likes it.[break][break]

It burns on the way down. The burn reminds him that he’s alive, focuses him into the present. Cian’s words earn a small nod from the sheriff and his Urshifu alike.[break][break]
“There’s power in titles.” Hoenn’s newest elite muses. “And in the symbols that come with them. CIAN MAHER, Hoenn’s prodigal son. Got a nice ring to it.” He speaks somber words, stepping out from behind the bar and heading for the ring.[break][break]
“Hope people hear stories like yours and Isaac’s and realize something. It’s never too late to change the road you’re on.” Standing in place, he crosses his arms. “The moment Rocket robs us of our ability to trust those that wanna do better, that’s when we lose.” A few final words he’s sure they can both agree on.[break][break]
“But we can wax poetic after the fight. Come on, Cian. Show me what you can do.” Shuwen falls into the telltale fighting stance of the rapid strike school, readying himself for what’s to come.

There will be a time to continue this discussion afterwards. For now, Navy sits on the edge of the ring in Shuwen’s corner. Leaning against the ropes, he looks more like a cowboy leaning into a cattle pen than an Elite 4 officiating his first challenge. Either way, he looks utterly at ease, even Hopps leaks forward, blazing a trail towards Shuwen.[break][break]
“ORAAAAAAAAAA!” Shuwen’s response is a lightning fast uppercut. The kick lands, powerful enough to knock the air out of most Pokemon. Shuwen is not most Pokemon. He is an Urshifu, a disciple of the Rapid Strike school. Though water and its shapes render him weak to verdant attacks, he remains standing.[break][break]
His aerial ace aims to send the Raboot high into the air, almost to the roof. If Cian and Hopps mean to reach for the stars, they’ll have to fight among them too.[break][break]
“Kick his ass!” Navy shouts, like he’s egging on a friend in a barfight.

Shuwen kicks off the ground when the hopping Raboot is thrown skyward. His muscles kick against empty air and somehow it propels him forward. Physics and its associated logic are human matters. Pokemon are beings which make the impossible possible.[break][break]
“Hope your bud doesn’t get as into it as Shuwen does.” His Urshifu doesn’t seem inclined to hold back, not here. They sit close to the apex of the world. Here, facing a would-be champion, the bear gives Hopps his very best.[break][break]
Blue energy surges around his fist. Flames blast across the flesh when he strikes, trading blood for blood and blow for blow. His drain punch aims to alleviate the inevitable pain, make Hopps pay the toll for two.

defying physics, the two pokemon maneuver and engage in an intense battle in the air, somehow held up by the momentum of their attacks as they exchange blows that would've been more than enough to knock cian right out. the sight is quite magical, and it leaves cian almost in awe as he watches.[break][break]

for moments, he forgets he's a challenger.[break][break]

chuckling softly at Michael Navidson's statement, he responds,[break][break]

"hopps is a bit like me when i game."[break][break]

the same way cian spits out over his voice calls to his teammates, raboot spits out a GUNK SHOT, showing how toxic it can be the more invested it gets.

The gunk shot slams into Shuwen, sending him flying into the wall. It cracks, leaving a bear-shaped indent high in the wall. Shuwen sits there, coughing. Poison seeps into his fur. He has been poisoned by the shot. He feels it in his bones, in the way the world begins to blur.[break][break]
He isn’t out of this fight yet.[break][break]
Navy’s wristwatch, topped by a mega stone, begins to glow. Shuwen pulls the stone’s power into himself. It surges around him, the bear soon wholly consumed by light.[break][break]
“…Your little guy really is something. He’s got Shuwen serious.”[break][break]

“ORA!” Shuwen shoots like a blue comet from where he rested, a streak of light across the sky above them. Two fists rise, a thousand fists fly. The surging strikes evolve into g-max rapid flow, showing the legendary’s true power. His whole body is a blur of constant motion, an endless flow of one blow leading into the next.

he feigns a pout, shaking in his boots only to immediately snap out of it with a bright smirk.[break][break]

"SIKE! heh. i might be too poor for a dynamax band but i got some tricks up my sleeves too."[break][break]

pulling out a TERA ORB, he tosses it up into the air and watches it explode to cover raboot in crystals of brown tones mirroring brick plates and the color of the earth.[break][break]

raboot now in its FIGHTING TERA STANCE meets G-MAX RAPID FLOW with HIGH JUMP KICK, legs moving in a flurry of kicks to try and outstrike urshifu. to the two humans watching them below, they move with such speed that it's hard to discern what's happening.[break][break]

“Huh.” The word is a long, dry sigh. “Gotta love these tera crystals.” A statement that feels like half a lie. He doesn’t know how he truly feels about the tera crystals. They seem to bring hope and disaster in equal measure, much like all the many other forms of power Pokemon use to ride above their station.[break][break]
“All I know is…looks like they’re having fun.” And, at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. It speaks to Cian as a trainer and Hopps as a fighter that he can have fun with Shuwen. Most Pokemon would be reeling from a torrential barrage.[break][break]
Shuwen’s fists meet the powerful legs of the fighting rabbit. Every connection of their bodies is an explosion of force. Every time, Shuwen shoots forward to meet his opponent again.[break][break]
Inevitably, someone ends up falling. Shuwen crashes down into the center of the ring, shattering through to the floor below. He’s back up in no time, pointing a fist up and shouting a challenge.[break][break]
“RAAAAAAAAAAAGH!” His war cry is bellowed with all the spirit he can muster, a fighter’s aura surging around him. The Fighting Master bulks up for the inevitable round two.[break][break]
“Besides, we’re recording the whole thing. We’ll play it back in slow-mo over some more whiskey.”

"i've never really used them until recently but they're pretty neat."[break][break]

cian has always relied more on his sygna suit and so he's never needed to explore other gimmicks. recent discussions and developments have changed that, of course.[break][break]

their different fighting styles are a joy to watch even if he can't fully appreciate it due to how fast and blurry their movements are. he'll have to play it back and watch it in slow-mo later, as navy suggested, over more whiskey. he's not usually a drinker but occasions like this calls for it.[break][break]

with urshifu breaking through the center of the ring, raboot is given a sliver of space to catch its breath as it floats down, somehow defying physics still as he's sure there's no way it weighs that light.[break][break]

raboot points down at urshifu, not backing down despite the BULKING UP of its opponent. if anything, it only pushes raboot further as it tucks its body into a ball to FLAME CHARGE down to meet urshifu.[break][break]

“Right?” He finds himself grinning. Watching Shuwen and Hopps go all out feels like a window into a different time – a tomorrow where the war is won and battling can be a simple sport. Both are pouring their hearts into this. It makes him forget, just for one moment, that there is a war raging outside.[break][break]
“Could get used to this.”[break][break]
“ORAAAAAAAAA!” Shuwen’s lungs bellow a cry that near shatters Navy’s eardrums. His heart and soul are in the cry. Like the man who trained him, it is impossible for Shuwen to not go all out when faced with a worthy foe.[break][break]
Hopps charges. Shuwen rises to meet the challenge. He gets up close, strikes with a single blow that would make a single-strike Urshifu gasp. Shuwen and Hopps are locked in close combat, the shockwave of Shuwen’s blow echoing across the chamber. One of the television screens near the bar explode, making Navy jump.[break][break]
“Probably, uh, gotta get that seen about.”
