When THEO BECKETT stepped across the threshold into BARNABY FINCH's office, he'd find it to be as welcoming as one might expect. There was something fragrant in the air, pleasing and heady. Lamplight spilled across dark wooden floors toward a small sitting area, which consisted of a couch and two cushioned chairs.[break][break]

And, if Theo were to look, he'd find that at the corner of Barnaby's desk sat the Palentine's gift given to him by his superior: a single rose encased in a glass container.[break][break]

"Hm. A little formal for what I had in mind." Casual in his approach, he turned to the drink cart nearby and plucked two crystal tumblers from it, already anticipating what was to come.[break][break]

"Do you mind if I call you Theo?"[break][break]

They'd addressed each other informally in the Distortion World, but that was an entirely different dimension, far away from ROCKET's rigid hierarchy.

BARNABY FINCH's office is a stark contrast to theo's but it is what he has come to expect from the admin, the pleasant and heady fragrance in the air eases whatever tension they may feel from being confined by rocket's rigid hierarchy, though he finds it relatively easy to ignore it the moment the door closes behind him.[break][break]

his head shakes as he approaches.[break][break]

without waiting for an invitation, he sits, gently placing the blue-lacquered case before him. he notices how his gift is displayed on their desk, appreciating the gesture.[break][break]

"i never took you for someone who enjoys bourbon."

There was a curious lilt to how he voiced the word, though Barnaby’s attention was divided between the underboss and his preparations for their little rendezvous. Balancing the two tumblers in the palm of one hand, he scooped up an ice bucket from the drinking cart in the other before joining Theo on the couch.[break][break]

“What did you think I enjoyed?” [break][break]

Placing everything onto the coffee table in front of them, Barnaby then began tidily unpackaging the bourbon. [break][break]

The ice wouldn’t be needed, then. Barnaby preferred his drinks neat. With this in mind, he uncorked the ornate bottle and poured a generous amount into both tumblers. He then handed Theo his glass, their knuckles momentarily brushing together.[break][break]

“Hmm. I suppose I enjoy wine well enough.” Barnaby mused, leaning into the plush backing of the couch. “But bourbon felt more appropriate for our… meeting.”[break][break]

“Plus,” Taking his first sip, he looked over at Theo, still smiling faintly. “I like the way it burns.”
