Today was just one of those days. [break][break]

Eddie tossed the red rubber ball for Blanche to chase for what felt like the hundredth time since they'd shown up on the small stretch of beach on Route 115. It was fine, though, even if the little toy was now thoroughly saturated in Growlithe spit as she plopped it back at his feet. Eddie needed a distraction, something to get his mind off things. He threw the ball again as his eyes drifted to the nearby road. [break][break]

Some company would be nice. Sure, it'd probably be weird to accost a stranger out on a morning jog, but Eddie had Blanche with him. People loved dogs, right? And she was cute as hell. That'd be a good enough reason to strike up a conversation with someone, probably.

It took a moment for Eddie to register what exactly had happened. There was a voice, a blur of purple, and then some kind of dinosaur-looking rabbit Pokemon landed at his feet. He was oddly adorable though, with his subtly twitching ears and wide but stern-looking eyes. Eddie leaned down, offering his hand for the Nidorino to sniff in a show that the man didn't mean any harm. [break][break]

Blanche barked happily at the trainer still on the path nearby. Eddie looked up and offered a casual wave, [break][break]

“This little guy one a'yours? He's real cute.”

his warning comes a little too late as the curious nidorino is actually not so curious after all. as it sniffs 's hand, it jumps up to bite the tip of their fingers, not hard enough to cause any serious damage but enough to sting and maybe even break through skin.[break][break]

Yeah, ouch, that kinda hurt. Pointed teeth nipped a couple of his fingers and managed to catch a little on the first knuckles of each. Eddie exhaled sharply as he drew back his hand, brows furrowed as he examined his injured digits, [break][break]

“Ha! Ya ain't kidding.” Eddie did his damnedest to seem as nonchalant as possible, despite the way his knuckles had begun to sting. He turned back to the Nidorino, “That wasn't very nice of you, little guy. Goin' around and usin' those cute looks of yours for evil.”[break][break]

The Growlithe at this point had long since abandoned her trainer to his fate. She approached Matias with an eager curiosity, tail wagging and tongue lolled out to the side, [break][break]

“Blanche is a real sweetheart,” Eddie called with a broad smile, “You can pet her, if ya want. She doesn't bite.” [break][break]

He glanced back down at the Nidorino, eyebrow quirked, as if to say 'see, you could learn a thing or two from her'. Eddie suspected that his nonverbal communication was probably falling on deaf ears, so to speak.

There was the briefest moment of confusion that flashed through Eddie's mind. It was weird, he thought, that this guy hadn't named his Nidorino already. He brushed the thought aside quickly; it was too minor of a detail to judge a man on. Besides, the Nidorino had a rather fitting name now. [break][break]

He approached Blanche, feeling a fond pride when he noticed the smile on the other man's face. The dog was spoiled rotten, sure, but she deserved it. Her hind leg started to thump against the ground as Matias reached a particularly itchy spot behind her right ear, [break][break]

“Hard not to, when they're this damn cute. Growlithe from Hoenn are kinda weird, though. Lot more red than the ones back home.”

if only knew that matias doesn't name any of his pokemon. out of the nine hundred plus he has at his disposal, only a handful are named. but that should be expected from someone with his history; why name them when they're most likely going to be killed in battle?[break][break]
