there rarely was any reason for kyle to visit this part of the building, but the wing where labs and training facilities were located was their destination for today.

he leads them to a habitat carefully created to suit diancie. an entrance from within the building leads underground, where growths of diamonds and crystals jut out from the ground.

kyle isn't sure which parts are from terastral tunnels that have popped up around the region and which ones are natural.

"they're usually down to have practice matches with trainers if you're also down," he explains as they descend. "if you don't trust legendary pokemon, then this is a nice, controlled environment to feel them out."

he looks around the cave tunnels. diancie doesn't seem to have appeared yet.

"but we can also just have a peaceful meet-and-greet if you prefer, but i'm not sure what else we could do with just that interaction."

True to his word, Kyle arranged everything, a time, the place, an invitation to meet a legendary Pokemon of sorts... Yuina had no reason to doubt him, or not think him truthful, but to know that he'd actually followed through, and offered her the opportunity... It was a bit daunting.[break][break]
She walked with him through the halls sanctioned for some of these Pokemon in the Pokemon league, and he spoke idly, still as if this whole concept were the most casual mundane thing he could possibly be discussing. Did she want to battle the legendary Pokemon? What was she actually doing down here at all? Did she even think this far ahead...? What... What was she going to do?[break][break]
"I... I guess I didn't think that far ahead... Is that what others normally do, getting a chance to meet one of these Pokemon," Yuina wondered, she wished she would have asked herself the question earlier... What was the point of this... Why did she agree to this? And what did she expect to get out of this encounter...? Also...[break][break]
"Can... Can I ask, why you invited me here? Is this standard practice, or, something else," Yuina questioned, as kindly as she could... She was grateful (?) for the opportunity... Maybe... but, was this an opportunity that was open to everyone, or a privilege if someone happened to know someone in the right ranks...

"'training' is the usual excuse," he answers her. "sometimes, it's for science. other times, it's to borrow their strength for an errand. no one's brazen enough to demand avatarship surprisingly enough."

though it wouldn't surprise him if someone actually did and it just wasn't written on any reports. it was only successful attempts that get fed back to them in aqua, after all.

"as to why it's you specifically, it's really all just coincidence." indifference fails to remind him that being distinct is important to some people. "we met up during one of my investigations, our conversation steered that way, and i have an option to give you that opportunity... it's, um, yeah, an impulsive decision."

eyes watch from the shadows as kyle continues to explain the situation to yuina.

"i-it's not exactly standard practice, but people bring their friends all the time for these! it's a privilege, but in a very loose way of saying it. d-don't worry much about w-whatever you're worrying about!"

Kyle was doing his best to alleviate any concerns that Yuina had, but as unfamiliar and daunting as the territory was, it was difficult. He himself had made the decision to offer this loose privilege to her, to meet one of these Pokemon that were housed with the league. It felt like an expectation... Was this meant to be a stepping stone to greater involvement within the league organization? Did she want that at all...?[break][break]
"Well, I guess I should thank you then? For the opportunity," Yuina offered, it did still sound like more of a question than intended, but... It was still a question at its base....[break]
"I'm sorry if I'm thinking too much about this... But hopefully that's a better approach than coming in here with an agenda," she worried, she didn't want to over step anything, or make a mess out of this encounter with a potentially powerful Pokemon.[break][break]
"So, what kind of Pokemon is it that we're here for," Yuina questioned finally, glancing around to the immaculate crystals and the environment that was kept so well for what she was sure this specific Pokemon. She wasn't sure what to expect...

"no need for thanks. it was my offer, anyways," he reassures her. "we can always leave if you aren't sure."

it was no big deal to escort her out if she's having second thoughts. the hint of the patronizing response is heard, but he gives her the benefit of the doubt for now.

wild carbink slowly populating their space from a distance becomes a telling sign that their target is nearby.

"what we're looking for is her, by the way."

kyle turns to a corner where the diancie peers from. once attention is on her, she slowly steps out, cautious as the visitor was.

"it's diancie. rock- and fairy-type. also one of the few ones that can also mega evolve," he explains. "i thought it would be nice to visit them since terastal crystals kinda look like diamonds and those are the current flavor of the month."

They were in the heart of the glittering crystal cavern, it was hard to believe that they were still inside a facility, a building of any sort that housed this place, it was truly incredible. Yuina found the small rock type Pokemon flouncing around off to the sides, wondering what they were, when Kyle spoke, regarding one Pokemon in particular.[break][break]
Of all of the things that Yuina could have been expecting, having really only been told that these 'legendary' Pokemon possessed natural disaster level powers and the capability to control and influence concepts beyond the natural world... Yuina was a bit taken aback at the emergence of a rather small, glittering pink crystaline Pokemon emerging from the rocks just in front of them.[break][break]
"Diancie...," Yuina murmered first for herself, taking in the name, the initial surprise of... not knowing what the encounter would have looked like.[break]
"She looks like a tera crystal, I wouldn't have been surprised if she had something to do with them," Yuina returned, a soft smile, the Pokemon really was very pretty.[break][break]
"What is she doing here? Is she being protected from something?"

"i'm not... really sure. she isn't really detained either."

much like tapu koko and tapu bulu, they aligned themselves with the league for their own reasons. kyle is certain they can always break out if they wanted to, especially since they already get free reign whenever people ask for them for training.

coaxed out, diancie steps out a bit further.

"i'm guessing it's loyalty to its previous avatar, and then the league pretty much just made it a home. protection is likely the pr answer but..."

kyle straightens his back, folding his arms as he exhales.

"i think its previous avatar brought it back to life and they immediately got attacked. it's such a cliched story though, so i won't be surprised if it isn't believable."

doesn't help that people are gullible enough to cling on to narratives that paint the league in a negative light as a generalization, but kyle doesn't voice it out.

Watching the crystal Pokemon carefully, just trying to regard it and understand what it meant for a 'legendary' Pokemon to be here among them, Yuina listened to Kyle as he gave his own thoughts. Or, an educated guess at least. It made sense, that it probably wasn't detained, that would be... A poor choice if Yuina had to guess. Just because it was smaller than she might have expected, there was likely still power that it could wield that was beyond anything she could fathom.[break][break]
"Believable? There are so many other things going on right now that border on unbelievable but are happening anyway... Diancie is here, that makes it believable," Yuina returned, the word 'believable' seemed to farfetched now. Was any of what she had encountered within the last couple of months actually believable? Some of the reports she recounted to the rangers sounded crazy, Kyle's recollection on what may have happened with Diancie didn't sound so crazy by comparison.

he dips his head and smiles, accepting the response from yuina.

"that is the case, i agree."

he squats down and beckons the diancie closer.

"unfortunately, the war of truth and lies is a losing battle for the league. people would rather believe what they want, so they'll take anything that supports the idea."

that they're the beacon of morality and hope, while the league, who were supposed to be "the good guys", have been lacking. there is merit to their words, just as the world isn't as black and white as they think it is.

they pay good money though, so kyle can't reasonably leave his post.

kyle shakes hands with the diancie as it approaches. he then invites his guest to do the same, knowing that the pokemon seldom gets visitors given the security. diancie will do better with social interactions.

"do you want to see it mega evolve?" he offers out of the blue.

at this point, he figures she wouldn't be interested in a test of might given the direction of their encounter with it.

Standing there amidst the rock and crystal that adorned the makeshift cavern, Yuina watched as Kyle invited the Diancie closer, taking its hand. Yuina smiled, she reached out for the legendary in kind to offer the same gesture, all things considered, it did seem like a friendly and docile Pokemon.[break]
Kyle's brief recollection of the current state of affairs had caught Yuina's attention though, she didn't look to him but as she stood right beside him, her eyes glanced.[break][break]
"For better or for worse, I'm still new to the region as a whole," Yuina started, a half truth. For as involved with things as Kyle was, given all of the hats he wore, he had a very... somewhere between realistic and almost negative outlook.[break]
"I obviously don't know any of the history behind everything that has gone on since they've come to Hoenn... But, why, if we're opposing them, standing against them, helping the region... What's happened that the league is loosing," Yuina wondered. She'd had her own interactions so far with rocket, some deeper in the weeds than others, and where she had been told that encountering one individual in particular should have meant death on sight, that didn't turn out to be the case. She was drawing her own consclusions, however shallow her pool of information really was, but maybe Kyle could give a perspective that she wouldn't hear from someone as idealistic as some representatives made the league out to be...[break][break]
"Hmm, only if she doesn't mind? Is that okay, Diancie? To show us your mega evolution," Yuina answered, speaking to the Diancie then. She didn't want to impose any more than they might be already. If the Pokemon was enjoying the interaction, then maybe it would be kind enough to grant them a show of its power.

"indecisiveness, i suppose."

kyle takes out a mega stone from his pockets and hands it over to diancie.

"everyone's too kind. people follow their hearts against their better judgement, and that thing is pretty easy to capitalize on for the other side."

instead of the mega accessory he usually uses, kyle produces a band instead. he fixes it nicely on his wrist, making sure the key stone was properly synced with diancie.

"on the bright side, rockets are also the same. it's just easier for their higher ups to force their soldiers to do what they want. the league's too soft to do the same."

at this point, the diancie starts to glow. kyle isn't diancie's trainer, and the bond isn't as strong as it should be had he been one, but the process starts nonetheless.

"not that my answer helps. everyone's opinion on why the league is losing is different, and it's easier to believe what's convenient anyways." even if it means generalizing the organization as corrupt
