A colossal weight had been put upon Noel's shoulders. Strapped to his back, a large contraption of which he had no idea how it functioned was designated to him to carry around inside Area Zero. In wanting to find out more information about this new location, the League had assigned both Noel and Yuina Higashi to run a drill through a suitable location in order to extract mineral, crystals and other such things. He had no idea just how they could glean data from rocks but it was not of his concern. He had a job to do and he would get it done.[break][break]

Exhausted from lugging the device around and of the fact that the League didn't have a way to transport the drill around in a much better manner, he removes the pack from his back and sets it down onto the floor after the two of them had found a spot that seemed worthy of its use. Panting softly, he continued to remove machine and set it down on the floor.[break][break]

He faced his partner for the mission and says "What do you think about this spot? Although if I have to carry this thing around any longer I don't know how much more I can last..."[break][break]

However one problem had emerged. He had no idea how to activate it in the first place.[break][break]

"By the way did they tell you how to turn it on?... I don't know if they forgot or if I was just not paying attention..."

The series of expeditions into the vastness that was created by the skirmish in the Icelands were heavily underway. All available league operatives who weren't studying the Dyna Tree in Evergrande city were now being split for various recon missions within the crater that tore through the land.[break][break]
Walking through the chasm above and into the deepest depths where the grass and greenery no longer grew and the environment became an enormous cave system glittered with Tera Crystals and other ancient rock formations, Yuina walked with Noel, her partner for the mission. A good friend, and someone she was glad to see, she felt that they would work well together here.[break][break]
Centos walked alongside Yuina, the large metal antelope having been her guide within the chasm a handful of times already, she trusted the sword to keep an eye on things that they might not be well aware of... He was manifested from this place after all. His metal hooves clicked along the rocky ground as they'd made it into the cave system, and Noel heaved the pack of tools that they were sent with onto the ground.[break][break]
"I think this is a good spot, it's flat, maybe we can get it set up close to that cluster of crystals there," Yuina wondered. Noel questioned the device itself, and Yuina smiled. It was only because of her work in her museum, learning about the various excavation practices and how the earth itself could authenticate when something ended up in the ground that she knew what they were doing. For the most part at least. This was a nicer, newer machine that she would have ever come into contact with, but she could give it a go.[break][break]
"I think I can get it settled, it's more or less a rotary auger. Excavation sites use these to determine how old the different layers of the earth's crust are to help authenticate their finds," Yuina nodded.[break]
"Here, just like this, and grab that there, let's get it set up over here and make sure the platform can sit flat..."

After finagling with the device with the help of Yuina, soon it sprung into life. The sounds of machinery could be heard from inside the contraption as its noise echoed throughout the cave. Soon they were able to set it up completely and the drill began to burrow into the ground, going at an extremely slow pace as inch by inch it dug.[break][break]

"Phew there we go." He wipes the sweat from his forehead using his sleeve. "I probably wouldn't have done this without you Yuina, so thanks."[break][break]

With her Iron Crown by their side, he felt at ease knowing that such a powerful Pokemon was able to provide backup for them. Who knew just what danger lurked in these tunnels. Along the way they had seen multiple types of Pokemon that seemed wary of their existence. Yet none attacked so far, perhaps it was the fact that the mechanical beast looked so intimidating that no creature dared to get in their way. All seemed calm and easygoing for the time being.[break][break]

That was until Noel could feel tremors vibrating under his feet. At first he chalked it up to the drill doing its work but he soon began to doubt that. He stood up fully and darted his eyes back and forth across the cave's interior. Nothing had shown up just yet but he suspected something would arrive soon.[break][break]

"Be careful Yuina... I don't think we're alone in here."

Without too much fuss, they were able to get the drill settled, and thank goodness. Making sure it was stable, the drill began its work digging into the first layers of the rocky ground beneath their feet, and Yuina watched on in curiosity. Sure, her work down here was assigned as a ranger, but as her friend howard slayte would find the same sentiment, the history of this place and being a part of uncovering its history... That was something equally as demanding of her time.[break][break]
"Just imagine, what this information will tell us... This place has probably been buried here beneath the region for... Millennia... I wonder if the first meteor shower that formed the sootopolis crater might have been responsible for remodling the landscape to where this place just... Closed up," Yuina marveled, it really was something to think about. A place this vast, this expansive, with its own climate environment, a thriving ecosystem, it didn't just manifest overnight... This place has been alive beneath the region all this time...[break][break]
The ground trembled beneath their feet, giving pause to the drill as it worked to recalibrate for only a moment... Centos' horns elongated in a glowing blue energy, a warning, an exertion of his psychic power... Yuina didn't see anything outright... Not yet...[break][break]
"We are intruders here... This place doesn't belong to us... Maybe if we're careful, and keep to ourselves, we won't upset anything enough to come after us," Yuina cautioned, she didn't want to go looking for a fight, not if it wasn't necessary. Whatever it could be, might only be passing by, if they remained quiet, it might pass them over entirely...

Making sure to take careful steps, he slowly walks backwards as to get away from the source of the tremors. However, he's unable to see a rock that stood in his path and trips upon it. Tumbling down, he lands harshly onto the floor and after realizing what had just occurred, he looks up from the floor.[break][break]

Soon whatever was terrorizing them appeared. One by one, Dugtrio burst out from the floor, all sparkling with Tera energy that they seemed to be infused with. They must have stepped into their territory and their drilling assuredly angered them. As if in unison, they all cry out and summon up a Tri-Attack headed straight in Noel's direction.[break][break]

Luckily his Milotic pops out from its Pokeball and fights off the attack with a Dragon Pulse. The two forces cancel each other out and with the opportunity now given to him, Noel stands back up to face this new threat. He turns his head towards Yuina with a determined look on his face.[break][break]

"It looks like they're not gonna let us go. We've got to stop them before they mess around any further and damage the drill."[break][break]

Keeping close to the drill at first, to ensure its safety, Yuina waited on bated breath to see if whatever was looking to approach might pass them by, but the hope was for not. One by one, the ground burst with showers of pebble and stone, Yuina turned to sheild her eyes as she coughed. She glanced, finding Noel on the ground, and she did move to try and help him up, but all around them, now between her and Noel, Dugtrio littered the ground.[break][break]
"Messing around with the drill is the least of our concerns... Noel, these Pokemon, if they've been here this entire time, have likely never seen humans before, ever... They're going to be far more aggressive and probably more powerful than we could ever realize," Yuina returned, in a way... They were not unlike the Pokemon of Hisui, without human influence, without being disturbed, they were going to be far more intune with their most base natural instincts...[break][break]
Noel's Milotic was out to defend, and Centos stomped his cloven metal hooves on the ground, but if there were more of these things, who knew where they were beneath their feet...[break][break]
"Centos, keep them away from the drill," Yuina called, and the sword's digital eyes blinked with a sharpened gaze as he leaped forward, stomping on the ground and starting to swing his horns. Yuina drew out another Pokeball though, knowing that they would need to do more than just keep an eye on the surface, she released Heizen, the Heatran.[break]
"Heizen, horu," Yuina called, and the fire type bellowed, open maw revealing a churning bright intensity within his body. His clawed feet made easy work of tunneling into the ground below, he would take care of any Dugtrio that may come at them from the underground.[break][break]
"We need to do this quick, we shouldn't disrupt the environment any more than we already have."

With Yuina and her Pokemon now out in full force, Noel would deem it right to do the same. While he wished there was some way to resolve this without harming the Dugtrio, it seemed like they had no other choice. He could only hope the drill would finish its work soon so that the two of them could leave the agitated horde promptly. [break][break]

"All right... As soon as that drill is done we're hightailing it out of here. We're outnumbered by an insanely large amount and we can't afford to stay here too long."[break][break]

While her Iron Crown chipped away at the crystallized exteriors of the Dugtrio and her Heatran moved its battlefield to the underground, Noel and his Milotic would provide support and defend the drill from any attack. With Scale Shots aimed toward various of the Terastallized Pokemon, the flung projectiles would knock a few out immediately yet more and more seemed to appear from nowhere.[break][break]

"They just keep coming... Isn't there some way to make this thing go faster?"[break][break]

A lone Dugtrio, seizing the moment while everyone else was preoccupied, blasts off a Scorching Sand towards the direction of the drill. Noel, being the only one to see the attack about to disrupt their goal, runs forward in between the device and the blazing hot storm. He yells out in anguish as his whole body feels as though it were on fire. His knees buckle and a leg gives out, forcing him to one knee. Looking back to check on the drill, he confirms its safety and slowly gets back up, clutching onto his sleeve which had now been burned away.[break][break]

"That was... a close one..."

The situation was growing very dire very quickly as the Dugtrio continued their assault. Some began to terastalize given the natural formed energy and tera crystals within the cavern, their power increasing. Yuina tried to stay close to the drill, on the other side of Noel with Centos keeping the Dugtrio at bay. She could feel the ground shifting beneath her feet, she knew Heizen was below keeping things handled, but she wasn't sure how much longer they could hold out...[break][break]
Noel put himself between the drill and a fury of burning sand that one of the Dugtrio whipped up, and Yuina had to wait for the open opportunity to rush towards him, covered in scratches and burns...[break]
"Noel, no, your life is more important than our work here, you can't do stuff like that," Yuina pleaded, he shouldn't have tried to put himself in the line of fire that way... Something like that was how... People wouldn't return from situations like this...[break][break]
She moved to help him up, keeping him close, moving him away so that Centos and his Milotic could continue in on the fray, when as quickly as they all came, every single Dugrio vanished into the ground... And everything grew silent...[break][break]
"That's not good... Something's happening, we need to go, now," Yuina remarked, urgency in her voice. She recalled Centos, and made sure Heizen came up from the ground who was bellowing and stomping with his clawed feet... Something terrible was getting ready to happen, the underground dweller was well aware...[break][break]

With the help of his companion, Noel is able to fully stand back up and the two of them are set aside as their Pokemon continue on with their defense. He lets out a weak smile and tries to show his appreciation for her.[break][break]

"Don't worry... It'll take more than that to take me out."[break][break]

He was just glad the drill was safe and sound or else all their hard work would have been for naught. Yet now, it seemed like something else had arrived, something much more massive, dangerous, and furious. Whatever her Heatran had been fighting below, it was clear that it made its mark on the steel-type. Bruises and dirt could be seen all over its body.[break][break[

Unexpectedly, a Great Tusk appears from the ground, landing on all its feet and letting out a loud roar to mark its entrance. Perhaps this was the master of this particular cave, and all the Dugtrio were simply passersby just like they were. Whatever the case, their fight belowground only made it more mad. Trying to reclaim its territory, it causes an Earthquake that causes Noel to stumble as the ground beneath him rumbles. He finds his footing and places a hand onto a nearby wall for leverage.[break][break]

"Looks like that's the ruler around these parts... I don't think we'll be able to last much longer here. Let's try and grab that drill and get out, or else I think we're done for."[break][break]

It was easier said than done however, as the mechanism was set in the middle of both them and the Paradox Pokemon. Its job looked to be finished and it had gathered up tons of minerals and specimens in its tank. Once given the chance, he would try and make a run for it to swipe it away and bolt.

The Great Tusk that emerged from the ground was the catalyst that was turning the situation so drastically, and the earthquake it brought with it was their sign that they needed to go. Yuina coughed, ducking down to try and avoid a shower of dirt and pebbles that fell from the cavern ceiling as the ground began to shake and tremble.[break]
"Noel, get your Milotic," Yuina urged, and she had to leave him for that moment to start trying to make sure they could get out. Heizen squared up with the Great Tusk, rushing forward to knock it away, but the damage was already done, the cavern wasn't stable, and it wasn't going to hold much longer.[break][break]
Recalling Heizen, Yuina worked as quickly as she could on the drill to get it undone from the ground, and pressed the release one two of her other Pokeballs for Rasza and Asu.[break][break]
"Asu, the drill," Yuina called, heaving the pack onto the dragon's back as she rushed for the Charizard.[break]
"Come on, we have to get out of here," she looked to Noel as she clamored onto Rasza's back, this was their only chance, as boulders began to fall now from the cavern giving way.
