Her previous trips in the simulation had been dark and cosmically terrifying. She was, naturally, eager to get Lulu's interpretation of things. So of course, the simulation spat out the most ordinary setting. "Really?" She intoned with obvious boredom. "Why open with slowpoke tails?"[break][break]

They were unappetizing. She preferred curry to something as bland as slowpoke tails. She wasn't turned off by the squishier texture, but she couldn't justify wasting time on something flavorless. The simulation was all about choices, and it was easy to say no. "Figure the tails out yourself," she said with little interest. She was trying to remind herself mid-simulation that the consequences were not real. It was much easier to do so when you weren't looking at deities. [break][break]

"I did not realize the simulation could produce mundane scenarios. My previous experiences were filled with Unown and monstrous abnormalities."

It finally notices you. A SPIRITOMB emerges from the cracked stone, its malevolent smile set against a spectral swirl. Souls whip in and out of its shape...

Lulu is unflappable in the face of the butcher's rage, bringing a smile to Ameena's face. She looks around the kitchen at Lulu's observation, wondering if something will stand out to her. But the man charges. Munna puts the man to sleep with a yawn just as Ameena grabs his forearm to keep the blade from coming down. He's fast, but she's too well-trained to flinch. The scene swirls away before them, reshaping into a cemetery. [break][break]

The headstone ahead of her bursts into a spiral of souls. "Ah, pokemon constructed of many pieces were a special interest of my doctoral advisor." She hadn't found it particularly interesting at the time. Exeggcute, Falinks, Dugtrio. She had never cared much for the grouping. Her advisor had published a thesis about Spiritomb counting among them because of the distinct count of spirits contained within that all Spiritombs had as a constant.[break][break]

As a soul came rather close to her individually, she reached a hand out to grasp it, ever curious of the sensation it would offer.

she ducked, a well-sharpened blade slicing off the ends of a few strands of hair as it sailed over her head. the danger had been there all along. it just needed a trigger.[break][break]

”aliens? megalopolans, perhaps?” but the man was in a rage, and she failed to get her answer as he charged towards ameena with another knife. her brow raised as the older veteran simply grabbed his arm to stop him short. even in a simulation, it was impressive.[break][break]

the scene changed. fuck. not this one, she thought.[break][break]

”interesting.” she was neither a behaviorist nor biologist, but in this case, she wondered, ”what did they have to say about spiritomb?”[break][break]

as ameena stuck out her hand, lulu warned, ”careful. a soul possessed me last time i got too close.”[break][break]

then, after a moment, she decided, ”but maybe it can’t be helped. time to try something different. let’s free them all.”[break][break]

but how did one perform an exorcism, exactly? her eyes lingered on ameena briefly before she abandoned any care of judgment.[break][break]

”… i invoke the cosmic forces to bring forth the light of redemption for these trapped souls! by the power of arceus, unleash them!”[break][break]

she held her hands up at the spiritomb, as though such forces might fly out of her fingertips all at once.[break][break]

You hear voices crawling out from the tombstones: "500 years... 500 years... 500 years..."[break][break]

As the Pokemon pursues you, it attempts to DESTINY BOND you and your Pokemon before the next shift.

The storm clouds stop before your ship. From the cumulous cover, a THERIAN THUNDURUS emerges with crackling lightning coursing from its knotted tail. What does it want? It does not look pleased.

Ameena has no interest in experiencing possession. At least, not without proper equipment to observe its impact and reliable scientists to track the data. Thankfully, Lulu expels the ghost. "Time to add exorcist to your resume," she muses as they walk away from the disgruntled Spiritomb. The scene shifts beneath their feet to reveal the god of thunder. [break][break]

Ameena opens her mouth to make an observation, but her Espathra flies past her to use lumina crash on the deity. "Edith!" She says sharply, but the bird will not accept criticism until after she's sated her need for battle. Ameena throws out the rest of her team to keep herself from getting smote by the deity. Honedge stays close, but Munna flies up to use future sight for information, and Rookidee taunts the Thundurus to keep him from slapping the vulnerable-to-electricity Espathra down. [break][break]

"This is not how I want to greet the divine," Ameena says as she rubs her temple.

she had certainly not expected it to work, but after butchering several lines she could scarcely remember from horror movies she’d seen once or twice, spirits began to fly free of the spiritomb’s containment.[break][break]

”apparently,” she murmured after ameena, awestruck. the voices pulled her out of her surprise, however. ”500 years? i wonder what they’re talking about…” the past, or the future? ghost-types being perhaps her least favorite, generally, she knew less about them.[break][break]

soon enough, spirits faded into a temperamental sky, lightning lashing over choppy waves. this one was familiar too.[break][break]

she blinked, and the battle was on. ”not to worry! i’m sure you’ll have another chance,” she assured, waving her porygon forward to join in the assault.[break][break]

Their pokemon put up a good fight, but they are fighting a deity. She watches as her pokemon fall one by one to the Thundurus. The storm worsens in the sky as if the god is disappointed in his challenges. Distantly, Ameena wishes she had a gun with her. [break][break]

Their ship breaks under the assault of Thundurus and the storm and the sea. A large wave threatens them in the distance, and it's clear their exit from the simulation this time will be underwater. "Well, it has been an honor." She speaks with mirth and a sardonic amusement, always one to enjoy dark humor where she can find it. The wave looms, then crashes. The simulation is washed away.
