The LEAGUE RESEARCH STATION that Audric Black and luka chêne had been assigned to preside over was remote, even for GIANT CHASM standards. It took them nearly a day to navigate the steep canyon cliffs and thick jungles before reaching it. There hadn't been a lot of time to talk during the trip either. Whatever breath they had was used for the arduous hike.[break][break]

The RANGER HQ had received a report that TEAM ROCKET would attack this research station soon, after all. The clock was running against them.[break][break]

Once they reached the site, however, and had a chance to rest and wash up, they found no combatants waiting for them outside the front gate. "Do you think TEAM ROCKET gave up trying to find this place?" Audric asks the pink-haired belle with a smirk. "Couldn't handle the little hike we just crushed, maybe?"[break][break]

Sitting on a bench near the edge of the garden rooftop, the HOLONITE leans back and takes a deep breath. Nearby, his PHIONE delights in watering the exotic flowers that were being grown here. The scenery around them was idyllic— a virtual Garden of Eden, really. But Audric had seen enough of it to know that its appearance was deceiving.[break][break]

"I wouldn't be surprised if they gave up when the going got tough. Very in-character."[break][break]

The trek down to the station had been exhausting. They'd had to undertake the whole thing on foot; the vegetation was too thick and terrain too treacherous for one of Luka's mounts to traverse it. At least they'd been lucky enough not to run into any Paradox Pokemon or Rocket members on their way.[break][break]

A chance to rest is a welcome one, and though her legs ache, a few minutes to sit brings some of the feeling back into them. She stretches languidly by Audric's side, taking in the view while soaking in the calm that has settled over the pair. It feels strange to admire a place like this, but it's undeniably lovely, in a terrifying kind of way.[break][break]

"I wouldn't underestimate them," she replies, examining one of the flowers that her Shaymin is sniffing at. "If I had to say something positive about Rocket...it's that they're very resilient."[break][break]

Like cockroaches, she'd add if she was a little more unkind.[break][break]

"Mmm...but we are pretty well concealed over here," she concedes, staring out at the thick vegetation. At her side, Sugar tries to keep her Shaymin from nibbling on a strange plant. "Still...maybe we should try to fortify this place, just in case they turn up?"[break][break]

It's an uncharacteristic moment of practicality, but that can be blamed on her Sygna suit. Under it's calming influence her thoughts are more focused, and her nerves are steady. It allows her to think a bit more strategically than normal.[break][break]

"What do you think we should do?"

Audric tilts his head, considering Luka's opinion and then ultimately agreeing with it. "I guess they did take over KANTO, huh..." He'd seen enough civil unrest back in HOLON to know that keeping a territory was harder than 'liberating' it.[break][break]

He snaps out of those thoughts of home when his pink-haired partner makes a suggestion. "Fortify?" He echoes, sitting up straight. "Like in Grass-types versus Zombies?" When he perceives what might be confusion in her expression, however, Audric immediately continues. "It's a mobile game— never mind that. Maybe we could, uhh..."[break][break]

Emerald hues scan the rooftop and their surroundings for a bit before settling on a ridge overlooking their research station. "There!" He says, pulling his hand out of his jacket pocket to point at it. "I could post one of my Pokémon there to keep an eye on—"[break][break]

And, just then, a pair of ROCKET GRUNTS appear on that very same ridge.
