The sun was close to setting completely. Not long from now, OLDALE would be plagued by seemingly rabid MIGHTYENA once more. Its citizens locked their doors, shuttered their windows, and prepared for the next nightmare.[BREAK][BREAK]

Rangers Audric Black and Arabella Trovato had been sent to investigate. Was this an outbreak of something? Had the people of Oldale Town done something to draw the aggression? Was there some other inciting factor they didn't know about yet?[BREAK][BREAK]

As his MARSHADOW enjoys the cherry Slurpee he hadn't finished, Audric leans against a lampost in the quiet central plaza. "So... tell me more about yourself, Arabella. Are you a dog or a cat person?" Pausing for a moment, the gears in Audric's mind appear to turn before he sighs and shakes his head. Then, without explanation, he licks his finger and raises it. He looks up at the bright blue sky above them, then squints his eyes as he attempts to look past the carnival stuff surrounding them.[break][break]

Audric Black had been coming to this community garden for some time now. As far as he knew, the land belonged to some rich prince who had offered it to the people of VERDANTURF to foster goodwill. This quiet April morning, however, the ranger had it all to himself.[break][break]

As he pruned berry trees and checked on his tomatoes, however, he would soon come across a wild MOTHIM feasting on someone's crop. The moment it spots him and the APPLETUN by his side, it pauses to angrily buzz and unleash an AIR SLASH. Thankfully, CAROLINA RED protects her trainer before launching a glob of APPLE ACID.[break][break]

With the Mothim drenched and struggling on the ground, Audric is quick to pull out an empty ball and capture it.[break][break]

When he turns to find Napier standing there with his Kommo-o, however, he is reminded of their secondary objective: to isolate one of the BRUTE BONNET for study. "Sheba, go— THUNDER FANG that one!" He orders upon finding a BRUTE BONNET that has strayed in the opposite direction of the group.[break][break]

And the Houndoom would do just that, leaping towards the target in question before pinning it down with a PARALYZING bite. Audric, too, remembered to place on his second earplug now. The time was near... pretty soon, Napier would summon his KOMMO-O to step forward. And, sure enough, it did. With a CLANGING SCALES it drew the ire of the entire troop.[break][break]

Having successfully captured their attention, Audric was unsure whether they expected the entire troop to go and meet the Kommo-o in combat. But they did, casting SPORES and RAGE POWDER in the air as they advanced to try and THRASH the dragon. Audric and Sheba, of course, took that as a sign to intervene.[break][break]

"Blind them with SMOG!" The Holonite commands, watching as his Houndoom spews black smoke out from her maw. A SUNNY DAY emerges to try and break through this choking smog, but fails to do so. The formation of BRUTE BONNET break, and are soon forced into retreat with a raging INFERNO.[break][break]

Audric ruminates on the plan for a bit. They lacked so much data about these BRUTE BONNET... could they really expect to herd them this way? Would they react as they thought they would? At the end of the day, he supposed they would have to fight them one way or another. So why not try this way? With a nod, he responds. "Got it. SHEBA and I will put ourselves in position."[break][break]

With little else to say, the ranger moves to occupy some cover behind some bushes and trees. His Houndoom joins him, of course, and together they wait for the troop of BRUTE BONNET to patrol right past them. "Just a little bit more..." Audric whispers, watching with widened emerald hues as they march onward.[break][break]

This was now just as nerve-wracking as it was exciting, but he was beginning to grow used to that feeling.[break][break]

The EARTHQUAKE that strikes threatens Audric's footing. Despite that, the ranger manages to keep himself upright as he reaches the black base on the other end of the woodlands. Just then, however, a stray HIDDEN POWER manages to strike his shoulder. Boudica rushes to his side as he drops down to a kneel with a pained grunt, but the Holonite shakes his head.[break][break]

"I'm f-fine! Take a torch to that place and let's get out of here!" He says, pointing at their intended target. With a silent prayer that there weren't any people inside, Audric watches as his Charcadet launches a LAVA PLUME upon the building. As the walls ignite, crumble, and burn, however, he doesn't find anyone inside of it.[break][break]

Was the base abandoned long before they got here? Was it only ever a trap? Or had the DRK TRIAD simply teleported away? Regardless, the ranger breathed a sigh of relief and staggered back up on both feet as the base became a bonfire.[break][break]

He was not made to be a killer.[break][break]

Not today.

As soon Jack mentions earplugs, Audric chuckles as he reaches into his jacket pocket. "After our last little run-in with that SCREAM TAIL, I sure do." He responds, taking his earplugs out and placing all but one of them on. "What's your idea?"[break][break]

Though fear immobilizes Audric for a moment, flooding his mind with thoughts of becoming an interdimensional prisoner-of-war, seeing the ZERAORA strike away with its PLASMA FISTS snaps him out of it. The fight wasn't over yet! And, if he needed more reassurance from that, Boudica would soon leap out from the bushes to strike at several Unown with a FIRE SPIN.[break][break]

"I— Boudica and I will keep moving towards the base! Do you think you can handle things here?!" Audric asks over the cacophony of HIDDEN POWER blasts and electricity. When one stray HIDDEN POWER nearly takes him out, however, he decides to simply run off towards the intended target with his partner instead.[break][break]

The few Unown that dare chase him and Boudica are struck away with ASTONISHING attacks by the latter. "Nice going, Boudi!" Audric cheers as he runs through the woodlands.[break][break]
