When one thinks of a legendary creature, people would believe they are beings of enormous proportions. Monsters filled with destructive energy that can paralyze you with just a simple glare. Such was true of the ones he faced back in those icy halls against the mighty Kyurem and mischievous Hoopa. A bout that left him lying on the floor with his blood running cold like the snow that hid his body. However what was floating beyond the glass that separated him and this "legendary" Pokemon betrayed all expectations of what the word meant to him.[break][break]

"So that's... Jirachi? It doesn't really seem to be doing much. Are you sure that thing is as powerful as some of the stuff I've seen?"[break][break]

He stared straight through the dividing mirror, gazing at the sleeping Pokemon as if waiting for it to do something, yet ever since their arrival it remained in this same state. If the League deemed it worthy of being held in their custody, then surely that must mean there was more than meets the eye to this Pokemon.[break][break]

Turning his head to face Navy, his face puzzled as to why he wanted him here in the first place.[break][break]

"Is it always like that?"

It still breaks his heart, whenever he sees this sleeping child. He’s sure the League could articulate an argument about how Jirachi isn’t being held against their will. It still feels like a child is being kept in a comfortable cage devoid of love. Noel’s question breaks Navy’s eyes away from the sleeping star.[break][break]
“What, Jirachi? Kid’s sleepy. You should see him when he wakes up.” It feels like a lifetime ago, when he first met the sleeping wish-granter. “According to Jirachi’s file, he accidentally created a fake Ho-oh. Nearly caused all kinds of trouble.” A soft sigh follows the words. “Not only can he grant wishes, but he’s one powerful psychic. He gave Melody Miro a run for her money when we had a practice fight, back in the day.”[break][break]
A smile plays across Navy’s lips. There’s a hint of mischief in his eyes. Theoretically, he has the authority to introduce outsiders to Jirachi.[break][break]
“…wanna meet him? Food bribes wake him up. Maybe we can even talk him into a spar, if you think he’s not as strong as some of the other legendaries.”

Noel agrees to the idea. Anything to see just what this little guy was capable of doing. Thankfully the League had a bakery within its own doors, a piece of respite for all the hard-working trainers and people stuck in the office in this gigantic building. Unsure of what the wish-maker favored, he just purchased as much stuff as he could, with the help of the sheriff's wallet.[break][break]

Lugging everything back, they drew the eyes of many who grew suspicious of the two's aims, but none dared to question someone like Navy. The two are able to bring everything back to the room where they once were and set everything up in front of the Jirachi. Like magic, the small Pokemon slowly awakens to a feast before its very eyes. Its eyes widen and a joyful cry echoes out into the room. Soon it munches hastily on every piece it could handle.[break][break]

"Huh... Looks like you were right. Food really brings out the beast in this little guy. Err... Jirachi? Its nice to meet you."[break][break]

The floating psychic is suddenly made aware that it wasn't alone. With a surprised look it takes its visitors into view now, Navy, a returning guest, but now there was someone new. It hovered around and around over Noel as if inspecting every single bit of him. The blue-haired man can only look up in astonishment and then taking a side eye to Navy.[break][break]

Is... this also what he usually does? I guess he doesn't get many visitors huh? Do you think he even would want to fight?"

When the star takes his first bite, Navy smiles. Navy smiles often, and freely, but this smile is for a special occasion. It’s unconditional warmth, offered to a child. Humans, especially adults, trap themselves in veiled words, half-truths, and complications. Jirachi simply exists, eating and looking at Noel with childlike curiosity.[break][break]
“You hear this guy, Jirachi?” Looking up at the floating star, they share a laugh. “It’s ‘bout time you got some exercise, huh? Goode’s got you working so hard, but hardly anybody comes by to check up on you.” Any growing child needs exercise. Technically speaking, Jirachi is an old being. Jirachi has existed for thousands of years, a wishing star, granting the people’s wishes. Given what AQUA has told Navy, Jirachi was probably awake for a few months tops before the incident at the tower.[break][break]
So, among ancient beings, the floating psychic is practically a baby.[break][break]
At the thought of exercise, Jirachi cheers. He seems open to the idea. It’s all about how you frame an activity.[break][break]
“You wanna go against him or have him fight one of my Pokemon? Heard you caught Shaymin. That’d be an interesting bit of exercise.”

The prospect of facing off a legendary Pokemon had Noel wanting to fight against it first-hand. He takes out his Shaymin out in front of him which curiously looks up to the mythical Jirachi. The two would have to get to know each other some other time, for now there was a battle to be had. Noel and his Shaymin take a few steps back and he nods to Navy.[break][break]

"It's on. I'm going to need to get more experience fighting against powerful Pokemon and this'll be a great test... But..."[break][break]

He pauses to press the button on his Tera orb. The swirl of crystal energy flowing out onto his Shaymin, transforming it into its Grass Tera. A bright glow surrounds the area before dying down, revealing the tiny hedgehog now covered in crystals adorned with a flower crown.[break][break]

"We won't be holding back. Ready whenever you are Jirachi."

“Ooooo…” Jirachi coos at the sight of the tera crown. Jirachi has been helping the League from a distance during their excursions into Area Zero, but he doubts that the little star has ever seen one up close before. It’s a brand new experience, something the sleeping star would never have seen in ages past.[break][break]
“Careful, Jir. Knowing this guy, Shaymin’s got some tricks up their sleeve.” The mention of tricks seems to excite Jirachi. Reaching out a hand, he attempts to lift Shaymin with psychic force. Any trainer or Pokemon who has fought a psychic type will know the pull of an opponent trying to lift them into the air.[break][break]
Jirachi’s black, bright eyes show no exertion. He reaches out as if trying to grab a plastic spoon. Shaymin is met by tremendous force, like a Machamp is trying to seize them and lift them up high.

The Shaymin is suddenly thrust up wards, its body dangling down as some unseen force is holding its legs aloft. The grass type's front legs wave around as if trying to pull itself back onto the ground, albeit with no success. Like a child playing around with their toy, the Shaymin is waved around violently, shaken around as it becomes dazed from all the movement.[break][break]

A moment of respite is had when the Jirachi stops for a moment, perhaps tired or bored of the same thing over and over. This pause allows the hedgehog to shake its head and clear its thoughts to come up with a plan of attack. If they couldn't get down on their own, then they would force Jirachi to let them go. Leaves spew out from its fur which all point towards the psychic, a Petal Blizzard rages on and surrounds Jirachi. A whirlwind of sharp green needles slowly close in and would soon cut away at its body.[break][break]

"All right you've had your fun Jirachi. But now its our turn to play!"[break][break]

Jirachi coos when the petals start to sway. Their pivot into a harsh blizzard catches the star off guard. Even Navy has to take several careful steps back to avoid getting caught in the crossfire. Jirachi’s tough – far tougher than he looks, but he hasn’t been hit by many direct moves. Pain, while not unknown, is foreign to him.[break][break]
It’s probably good, in the long run, that he has a sparring partner like Noel. Tiny hands ball into a fist. Navy has seen Jirachi enough to know when he’s angry, even if his anger seems more like a childish pout. Frankly, he finds it adorable.[break][break]
Right up until the third eye opens for a split second. His desire is to foresee doom. Nothing immediately happens. Instead, he appears to be in fierce concentration.[break][break]
“You, Jerry, you sure that’s a good idea?”[break][break]
“Mmmm…!” Jirachi projects a feeling of vague affirmation.[break][break]
“Uh…Noel…I hope your pal can guard.”

"Huh?"[break][break]

Noel didn't quite understand. The psychic didn't unleash an attack nor was it trying to evade the tornado brewing before him. Instead he merely floats directly in the middle of the leaf storm, his eyes closed in meditation. The Shaymin smirks to itself, an easy target now that it had ceased moving.[break][break]

"Hmph, looks like Jirachi isn't so tough after all. Hit him hard Shaymin!"[break][break]

Taking this opportunity to slide in another move, the small hedgehog shoots out a Seed Flare from atop the hurricane's eye. An attack from all fronts would surely leave any foe down for the count. However, the outcome of this match was never in Noel's favor to begin with.[break][break]

In stars, steel is born. Jirachi’s body is metal, and the seeds meet that armor when Shaymin launches their attack. Jirachi grunts in protest, tiny hands balling into fists. Once more, he slams out with a psychic lash, a push that slams everything on that side of the room into a wall.[break][break]
With the push comes foretold doom. Light descends, a killing light from some unseen heaven. It descends through the roof, shooting right for the Shaymin.[break][break]
Only outside intervention saves this from turning into a crisis. A substitute appears between Shaymin and Jirachi, absorbing the light and exploding. Only after seeing its stuffing fly everywhere does Jirachi stop. Realizing what it did, the star suddenly floats down to the Shaymin, making apologetic sounds.[break][break]
“Arceus…thank goodness Hattori was here.” His Greninja looks to those involved, walking up to Noel and Shaymin to make sure they are okay.

Noel's body is forcefully slammed against the wall, his feet swept off from the ground by the psychic energy the Jirachi was unleashing. A pained grunt leaves his mouth as his head tries to clear up from the sudden thrashing. Once it does however, something unveils before his very eyes.[break][break]

Complete and utter annihilation.[break][break]

That was the only way Noel could describe the attack he had just witnessed. A light that burned through anything and everything it touched, it was only thanks to Navy and Hattori that his Shaymin was spared from such a devastating move, or else there would be nothing of the hedgehog left.[break][break]

His Shaymin too is knocked onto the ground, dazed and confused from all that had just occurred. Only with the assistance of the frog ninja were they both able to get back up on their feet. Both of them looked exhausted with bruises scattered across their faces and bodies.[break][break]

A pained but smiling expression is drawn across the trainer's face along with a thumbs-up aimed at the floating star. Noel's Shaymin runs up onto his clothes and nests itself on his shoulder, holding a paw up as if to mimic its partner.[break][break]

He then turns his attention to Navy.[break][break]

"That is one tough Pokemon the League has. You don't think they'd let it out with us every now and then do you? It looks like it's been cooped up in here for a long time."[break][break]

His question is one of ignorance. There was no chance the League would allow something as powerful as a legendary Pokemon to just waltz about the region without inviting some sort of danger. Yet still, Noel couldn't help but feel like staying locked in here must be nothing but boring to the Pokemon.

Jirachi floats about, offering his apologies for what has transpired. It seems the little star little knows his own strength, the way a child is still learning the full effects of what their body can do. Navy pats the top star, rubbing it the way one might ruffle a child’s hair to comfort them. It calms Jirachi down, and they float back up. Noel and Shaymin are offered a polite bow from the floating Pokemon.[break][break]
“Well…between us, Goode lets AQUA take him out on combat missions sometimes. Things get rough, out there in the field. It’s gotta be rough for us to use him. He’s…” just a kid Navy wants to finish.[break][break]
“Guess it’s fine for him to get out every now and then. He’s helped me out down in Granite Cave some. Maybe we could take him into the Great Crater, or wherever else we’re called next time.” After he says that, Navy can’t resist a chuckle.[break][break]
“Sounds like you wanna see a baby star kick a Walking Wake’s butt.”

It just wasn't fair to keep a Pokemon all locked up just because of what could happen. Especially one so innocent and child-like. One day Noel would try and find a way to loosen the League up to allow Jirachi to be more free. For now, all he can do is accept this fate for the legendary creature and come by and visit every now and then if possible.[break][break]

"After what I just saw? Heh, I'm sure he can kick just about anyone's butt."[break][break]

He takes a pause to consider if what he wanted to say next wouldn't be too out of line.[break][break]

"But... I was thinking something... not combat related. Is that all he ever goes out for? Has he never just gone outside once for fun?"[break][break]

His heart pained to think that all Jirachi may have ever been used for was to fight. How much hardship the legendary creature had gone through, Noel could only imagine.[break][break]

The floating star looks to him with a wonder-like stare. The blue-haired trainer returns the gaze with a somewhat weak smile before patting him on the head so as to lessen his worries.

The question coaxes a conspiratorial smile from Navy, like Noel hinted at some private joke. Jirachi, being very young and ill-suited for understanding the intricacies of human speech, simply floats about. Prone to flights of fancy like any other child would be, he moves to investigate the Shaymin he had been fighting with only moments before. Children are masters of fighting and making up, and Jirachi seems determined to make a new friend.[break][break]
“Just combat missions.” His tone, ordinarily a playful drawl, has no accent. The words are spoken in a matter of fact voice, a performance for the cameras watching them even now. “We definitely can’t take Jirachi out for ice cream. No trips to get him trashy fast food. We bring him back right after the missions, just like Commissioner Goode would want us to do. We’re good little soldiers for her.”[break][break]
He does a mock salute. Jirachi floats away from Shaymin, joining Navy in the gesture. Navy and Jirachi look at each other and smile.[break][break]
Some rules are made to be bent, if only a little.
