As far as he was concerned, spring showers were as good as mythbusted that day. Trends and stereotypes be damned, there had always been something about being out when it rained—something to revel within, as far as he and his Alolan roots were concerned—but there were limits, even then. Thus, it was only natural for a sigh to escape his lips as the chime of an opened door signaled his entry into the shop, only followed by a few, repeated breaths into his hands as he cupped them over the lower half of his face.[break][break]

Once warmed enough, he took a moment to draw his hood back, casting a sidelong glance towards the window all the while as he fell in line. Sheets of droplets beat against the glass both visually and audibly, leaving him sighing as he turned his attention back towards the line, rubbing his hands together.[break][break]

He pressed lips thinly and absentmindedly, his brows furrowing as his attempts to warm his skin while waiting for the customers in front of him seemed to bear little to no fruit.[break][break]

’Light showers,’ my ass. Damn weather report.

rain is good for business. rain is bad for her laziness. [break][break]

all things considered, the line isn't too long today - but there's still a few people there. most locals, for one reason or another, like to crowd around the shop during rainy season so they can do some studying. her cafe is aesthetically pleasing enough, and she designed it that way for a reason, but goddamn. [break][break]

there's only two other people working with her, though those people were volunteers who came in to help her out. that's the good thing about being friendly with the locals; they help you out when you need it. [break][break]

the line slowly thins out, and she's left back to her own devices. "hey! sorry for the wait~" she chimes, her smile reaching bright, ruby eyes. the man who enters isn't.. familiar. he certainly isn't a local. "what would you like to order?"

Despite his initial distaste for the weather, there had been an underlying sense of urgency for his visit. Beneath the front of shivers and thoughts about the menu displayed before him, he watched his surroundings with a touch of calculation within his gaze. Between the notes of pastries and drinks, hues of slate had found themselves looming over the numerous people around him in passing. Customers. Workers.[break][break]

Especially the workers.[break][break]

But for the sake of inconspicuousness, he hadn’t lingered on the matter for terribly long at all— and especially as the line shortened more and more before him. By the time he found himself at the third or second person in queue, he merely took a sigh as he honed his focus onto warming his hands once more, scanning through the menu with a curious eye before it was finally his turn at the register.[break][break]

With none save for himself ever the wiser, a broadened smile immediately took his lips as he laughed a bit, parting his hands and bringing them down as he nodded at the woman in greeting.[break][break]

”Hey, don’t worry about it! Not your fault, anyway,” he reassured her, shaking his head as he cast another, briefer glimpse towards the menus above him. ”Getting slammed in this weather just means people like the place enough to drop by, right?”[break][break]

He inhaled, holding the breath within his chest for a moment before his cheeks inflated slightly, exhaling through lips that hadn’t completely parted.[break][break]

”Could I get a…Galarian macchiato? Extra shot.” His eyes narrowed in thought as he idled on the matter for a little while longer, though ultimately looked towards the woman once more with a curious eye. ”Thinking on a pastry, too, but I’m admittedly new to the area, altogether... You got any recommendations?”

he looked cold. [break][break]

were the springs in hoenn so cold? were the rain and showers so freezing? if she had known, maybe she would have given a little more attention to the flowers out in the back. there's quite a few things she'll have to check, but at least the inside of her quaint shop was warm enough that he shouldn't have to spend too much time trying to warm back up. [break][break]

thankfully, the order is quickly taken - and behind her starts the whirring of a coffee machine. the open machines are left out in the open for no reason other than to watch her pokemon prepare orders; in this case, it's the alolan vulpix trotting around with pouches or other ingredients in her snout. [break][break]

"alright.. galarian macchiato and.." the woman pauses, quirking a brow at the customer's question. her arms cross, and one of them raises to lightly tap a finger against her cheek. "hm.. you can't go wrong with kalosian croissants.." she ponders, glancing to the display case stationed next to the register. it's as she's pondering does she momentarily light up, quickly moving down the display case until she comes across a row of bagged, flower-shaped cookies. "but these, i make in house. not too sweet, and it's mostly hints of vanilla with cinnamon~" [break][break]

she's proud of her craft, and you can't blame her - she thinks the cookies turned out pretty cute.

Even while waiting for a response, he couldn’t help but let his attention drift for a moment.[break][break]

The words met his ears, and of course, he took full note of them. Recommendations, recommendations… He was the one that asked for them, so it would only be rude of him to blatantly disregard them, wouldn’t it? With a hum and the occasional nod, he pondered the choices given to him, yet even then, he found himself briefly entranced with the bustling scene behind the kind woman tending to his order.[break][break]

Another establishment where the Pokemon help out, huh?[break][break]

Endearing.[break][break]

And something that seemed all too commonplace compared to other places he’d frequented in the past— and unlike other places where the Pokemon seemed to be treated like any other employee, there was a certain bounce to their steps that simply showed otherwise. Busy and stressful as the business may have been, there was still…life. Still an eagerness to the way the little creatures moved, and paced between machines, and ferried their ingredients across.[break][break]

There was a certain degree of trust and willingness that they had towards the selfsame people they were helping, so surely they served a good person.[break][break]

…Surely, right?[break][break]

Before he could dwell on it for any longer, though, he shifted his attention back towards the woman at the register as she motioned towards the bags of cookies, and as if the distractions hadn’t been a thought in his mind, he gave them a quick glimpse through the plastic before grinning.[break][break]

”Ugh. You had me at vanilla, and kicked me while I was down with cinnamon,” he laughed, his brows knitting together as he nodded. ”Uh… Two. I’ll take two bags, then~.”

"alright, cool." a moment of her usual demeanor slips through, though it can be just as easily brushed off when she punches the order into the register. she's about to pass the cookies over to him, only for the tiny frame of a SNOM to slowly trudge along the glass of the display case. the little tick lets out a small cry to grab both man and trainer's attention. [break][break]

the ice bug already has a small bag on its back, held by the little spikes. the soft pincers click together in excitement when it feels eyes on itself. eilidh smiles more, and stifles in a chuckle. "pfft-- your total is two pokedollars." she tilts her head to the snom, who excitedly clicks her pincers together again. "the cookies are on the house. she just gets really excited when people buy them." because it gave her work, and the display was close enough that the customer didn't have to wait. [break][break]

"hope you don't mind slightly chilled cookies, by the way." the woman hums, glancing back to the vulpix and eiscue who already work on the drink.
