she’d not been in the med bay long – and she wouldn’t stay there long either. after an examination, she waited for results from a few tests. physically, she was mostly fine, having been nursed back to health rather quickly with the help of pokemon.[break][break]

however, the event lingered visibly. Greyson Connors’s attempt on her life was evident by the deepness of the blues and purples that encircled her neck. there were tear stains on her face, and a distant look in her eye.[break][break]

’underboss quinn is here to see you,’ said a nurse when she poked her head into the room.[break][break]

She's not been there long, and it hadn't taken long for someone to notify him.

It takes even less time for him to task Ellis with rescheduling his upcoming meetings. No one dares stop him at the door. His purposeful stride falters when he sees her, the dark bruising that rings her throat.

Might hear the deep breaths Cillian takes to restrain himself.[break][break]

"We'll kill him," he spits.[break][break]

We, because like with FERNANDO SILPH, she deserved her revenge.[break][break]

With no target, his blazing fury is forced to settle into a tamer heat. He pulls up a chair and sits, nails digging against his thigh.[break][break]

she blinked sedately on the bed, her face soft and vague. the shadow miasma was a small comfort, and she watched it crawl along the walls idly like a child watching a candle flame. in it were clouds of a galarian sky; a game of chess in a courtyard, cut short by a storm rolling in so long ago that it hardly felt from the same life anymore.[break][break]

death taunted her. it put teeth around her skin and watched her like a dog looking for a reaction. such was a dance all hoennians had come to know, but that day, to her, it felt like a lonely suffering. like an exhaustion only she could feel in quite that way.[break][break]

in the distance of what hazy vision her mind could attempt of the future, revenge looked tiring too — but they would kill Greyson Connors anyways, together. [break][break]

”i know.”[break][break]

it was only after a long stretch of silence and staring into time that she answered her brother’s next question.[break][break]

It's uncommon to see her so vulnerable. She is so often guarded around him of late. His heart wrenches at the softness of her features, gaze unable to resist focus on the dark bruises that ring her neck.[break][break]

When she makes her request, his reply is immediate: "Of course."[break][break]

Hesitantly, one of the doctors close enough to overhear interjects, "Sir, we'd like to monitor—"[break][break]

Cillian finally tears his eyes from his sister to offer a withering look to the interloper, who for all their medical expertise still doesn't dare to challenge what fury is found there.[break][break]

"I trust you'll sort the discharge paperwork without us."[break][break]

Turning back to Lulu Flint, he offers the ghost of a smile and tilts his head toward the exit. When you're ready, the motion suggests.[break][break]

"Where to?"

she looked up at the ceiling, her eyes shutting to ignore the medical staff that was easily and predictably shooed away.[break][break]

”thanks for that.”[break][break]

with a sigh, she slid off the bed, feeling a little weak in the knees from the drugs they’d given her. she blinked away some of the drowsiness and paced a couple of steps to get the feeling back in her feet.[break][break]

it wasn’t until he’d asked ‘where to’ that she realized she wasn’t sure. her island was the answer that came to mind first, but to feel that lonely place was her destination after all of this was disappointing.[break][break]

there was another lonely place she much preferred.[break][break]

”my old lighthouse.”[break][break]

the land had been purchased where it still stood, though no one occupied it anymore. it was empty and useless beyond sneaking in to perch and gaze pensively out at the horizon.[break][break]

it seemed a perfect time to do just that.[break][break]
