He didn’t expect to wake up. There’s no more second chances. kyle lopez isn’t around to resurrect him again. There will be no last minute deus ex machinas.[break][break]
So, when he wakes up to ambient, clinical white light, he thinks that he must be dead. Like any warrior must, he tries to raise himself to his feet. There’s another battle, even if he is dead. There is but one reaper, and Navy knows he must elude them.[break][break]
When he finds that he is bound to the bed, he seizes up. Taking a moment to take in his surroundings, he sees both of his arms are cuffed to the bed. A long IV line hooks into his vein, feeding much needed fluids to a shattered body. This has been a long time coming. It’s his poor fortune that his body’s needs have caught up to him here, in some unfamiliar hospital.[break][break]
Someone, perhaps a nurse, walks out, saying something about fetching a doctor. He’s a prisoner here, plain and simple. Anyone who watches the news would recognize his face, with how they put him on posters now.[break][break]
The question, he supposes, is this: does Rocket know he’s here, in this sorry state?

There had been plenty that frequented the hospitals that Rocket occupied, but never had there been many that had held much power in the league. Especially when he had to sedate the man immediately because of how horribly he reacted to standard treatment. He'd snapped on two nurses, two young ladies that Laurence oversaw. That was why he had been chained to the cot that he lay in, like a ghoul that had been bound to its coffin. And even then, when he had woken and one of the women went to go fetch the doctor, they'd been audibly uncomfortable with how startled he'd been.

It'd be a moment for Navy to take in his surroundings, to get his eyes adjusted to the fluorescent lighting that had previously blinded him. He'd feel the way his arms had seemed to be a few degrees colder, the IV bag that had been carefully put in to nourish him, but also the feeling of numbness that seemed to swaddle him, courtesy of treating the strange new chain that had managed to worm its way into many others' system. For someone who thought he had been a prisoner, he'd been treated right. Fortunately, so.

"You're awake now, huh? You know you put up quite the fight when the ladies brought you in... Truly, you owe them an apology."

The sheriff hadn't even heard the door open, but rather in the muddy brain of his currently, he'd know that this was none of the women from before. Another Nurse perhaps? The Doctor that they'd promise to grab? The heart monitor would chirp to the emotion that Navy would feel, either exposing his dread or solace. The disembodied voice would come closer, and in the blinding lights he'd be able to put a face to the voice. Whoever this man was, it had shown in the scrubs, a dark letter "R" that'd been sewn into it. A member of Rocket. The man spoke, his voice calm yet not reassuring.

"One of the Elite Four, Navy. Apologies if you feel a bit groggy, but can you speak? I'm Laurence Whateley, a doctor here in Sootopolis. I'm sure you have a lot of questions."

Submerged as he feels, the sheriff still endeavors to resurface. Turning his attention away from indifferent lighting, he finds himself facing a man. Unfocused gray eyes search him for details, clues hidden across every human’s body. His body language, the colors he wears, so many other little overlooked things can tell him all about a person.[break][break]
What truths this doctor hides remain hidden, save one: the omnipresent R. There is no warmth in the man’s voice. Like most doctors he’s had the poor fortune of meeting, his bedside manner is lacking. Navy seizes up, like some caged thing unsure of whether it’s about to be shot with a tranquilizer dart.[break][break]
Silence follows the doctor’s statement. Gray eyes, chained in their haze, try to focus on the doctor’s own eyes. They settle somewhere around the nose.[break][break]
“Sor…sorry, doc…” A good-natured, if false, laugh leaves his lips after the last word. Somewhere around the second ‘ha’, it turns into a coughing fit. Moving to cover his mouth, the cuffs keep him in place. Instead, he turns sharply away and coughs towards the wall.[break][break]
“Fuck…Temp really did…a number on me.” It wasn’t just Tempest Quinn, it is the sum of all his sins and virtue coming to take their due.[break][break]
“Am I a prisoner?” His voice shakes, but not from fear. “Must be…but why ain’t I being treated in a prison cell on the sub?” When the words are spoken, he is on awe that he managed to get through the sentence. All he can do once the words are said is lay there and pray for answers that don’t plunge his heart into his stomach.
