Upon entering the sweltering, pre-historic (pre-written-historic-anyway) heat, Xuan immediately returns to her pokéball despite being the one most curious about this RKS simulation. "And we've lost one," she smiles faintly, calling out her Glimmora Glimmer instead who looks at their surroundings with curiosity.

"I'm Cass, by the way - nice to meet you!" She wonders for a moment if that's a different scenario to before- ah, yeah, no, yep, that scream's still lowkey haunting her, or more the scenario that followed the last time she's been there. She turns to the younger kid, holding her ears closed to mute the sounds just a little bit. "WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO?" she screams, trying to be heard over the not-Jigglypuff's screaming.

[attr="class","eris109"]A simulation doesn't have to be this realistic. Sweat makes her clothes stick to her skin with a deathly grip, her discontent only matched by the dead look that Reiner affords his surroundings.[break][break]

"How do yo-"[break][break]

Her words are cut off by the unholy screeching, digging into the very soul like nails drawn across a pristine chalkboard. Instincts pull her hands right towards Reiner, covering his ears to the very best of her abilities as she winces and bears a grin through the performance. There's almost no way to hear her partner's question, but guessing the gist of it is easy enough.[break][break]

How should they handle this nuisance?[break][break]

Why doesn't the simulation possess some menu for audio settings? She can barely hear her own thoughts over all this noise. Why did they end up in this scenario of all things?[break][break]

The jungle flashes a bright red, a pastel creature slowly rising to her full height as she flexes and extends her claw. A solemn lover of peace and quiet, Ako doesn't appreciate this wretched singing no matter how much heart and soul is put into it. And she dives right into the overgrowth, ripping through foliage with a scream to rival the Scream Tail's own.

The other's question is cut short by the all-too-familiar-burned-into-her-brain scream, which leaves them with the question of what should they do indeed. Even as it's a simulation, this is just ... a bit too much, isn't it? Nonetheless, before Cass could agree, someone from Eris' team emerged with a vengeance.

Cass swallows, definitely intimidated by the screaming, angry Hatterene as she surges towards the screaming little, pre-historic balloon. Well, that's hopefully leading to a fate where the thing isn't directly eaten ... "ALRIGHT-" Cass shouts, trying to her her own voice over the various screeching that is now. In fact. Also joined by own of her own.

Despite having only been a mild-mannered chatterbox so far, Glimmer also floated forward - before joining the fray with a Mortal Spin, aiming directly for the fluffball as well. "BE QUICK!" Cass shouts, her hand vaguely on her pokéball to recall Glimmer at any moment - after all, one could argue that Glimmoras are bite-sized ...

[attr="class","eris109"]While the Glimmora is graceful, Ako approaches with the feralness of slighted cat. As soon as the Scream Tail is launched right into the air by the Mortal Spin, she reaches out with her claw, grabbing ahold of their leg and swinging them downwards at full force.[break][break]

Then she raises them up to the sky, and slams them down once more. Again and again, much like a rabid fan of whack-a-mole. So much so that at some point, the Scream Tail's screech-singing becomes genuine screeches of agony. And oh, does Eris pale at the very sight.[break][break]

"AKO?!" The screams grow weaker. "LET GO!" The crunching begins to make itself known. "PUT IT DOWN!"[break][break]

And she will, just not in the kindest of ways. With one final scream of her own, the witch swings the limp Scream tail round and round over her head, then pitches it like a terrifying fastball deeper into the simulated jungle.

Good news, Glimmer indeed does not end up being eaten by a prehistoric version of a legendary that is known today. Bad news, the other present prehistoric pokémon is met with violent rage. Like a train accident, it's hard to look away, btu also ... Cass is mildly perplexed.

And with the murder she's had to do in her other simulation attempt, she vehemently reminds herself again that this is just a simulation. "Are you okay?" she asks, concerned about how Eris as Hatterene's trainer might feel after this - even if truly, Hatterene is not known to be a pacifist. "It's just a simulated universe," she adds, hoping this might ease some feelings.

And there's something else going on ... "What's up there?" she asks, puzzled as a shadow is slowly cast over them. It's like ... a book?

Imagine how horrifying this experience would've been if this were real. She could, if not for the fact that her attention is drawn right to the strange things happening overhead. Whatever it is, it seems to be growing closer to them, and she instinctively takes a step back, reaching for Cass' hand as she pulls her along.[break][break]

She thinks about her Espathra Brad who truly stays true to his name ... sometimes she really wonders if she could deal with him at all. But right now, there's another thing happening - and she feels like she's in one of those Mario Party Minigames.

Except here, there's no hole to survive through.

She takes Eris'hand and nods. "Let's make a run for it!"

If they could even outrun it at all.

They say, "a specter doth roam among us. it doth don the visage of a frosty steed, its countenance clad in a mask as unyielding as jewels... 'tis known to appear upon the eve, striking fear into both folk and creatures of pokémon alike!"[break][break]

Suddenly, you can hear the sounds of hooves clopping toward the village. The townsperson shrieks and flees into a nearby home as a GLASTRIER crashes through the fencing.[break][break]

[attr="class","eris109"]If the simulations have taught her anything, it's that you can never really outrun the end. You can, however, run until you somehow tumble into a new simulation.[break][break]

In their case, that is exactly what happens. The data in the given space begins to glitch and warp, a new scenery coming into view as Eris pulls her right on through. This time, they are greeted by weary faces, ruin and rot marring the place they call home.[break][break]

A frosty steed. A spectre striking fear into pokemon and human alike. Turning to Cass, she's just about to ask what the other makes of it when-[break][break]

"A Glastrier?!"[break][break]

It crashes on through, wooden splinters kicked in all directions as it whinnies and neighs, stomping its feet against the ground. And every step it takes leaves a glacial sheen, chilling the air by a few degrees as it continues to run and crash right through another fence.

The book closes with no escape and also no Game Over screen - it's just, the end and a new beginning as they shift into a freezing winter landscape. Immediately, Xuan, Cass' Froslass, leaves her ball to look at the scenery around. "So, now you're marvelling at the scenery, hm?" Cass asks with a fond, but also slightly judgemental smile. Xuan doesn't seem to take notice, however, until-

"Is that the name of the pokémon?" she asks Eris as the horse from the simulation enters, a familiar sight. It's ... it's truly beautiful,if also wild and unpredictable. "I think we got two options- we could ... try and tame it? Maybe?" She actually really doesn't want to go with the option she went with last time, especially as ... ... no, actually, Umlaut would probably be fine with killing it. The rest of her team probably not, but the Toedscruel Won't Hesitate.

Which is much easier said than done. But after fighting incarnations of the lands, outer world invaders and elder gods, what is an ice pony?[break][break]

Withdrawing Ako before she lets loose once more, Eris only has seconds to push Cass right as the Glastrier tosses an icicle towards them. And how cold its surface is, a bitter anger reflected in jagged ice as her fingers grasp at a blade that doesn't exist.[break][break]

Why does it rampage about? What does it seek from this village? Ploughing its way through toiled fields and nosing its way into barrels of water that quickly turn to frost. Destroying bales of neatly stacked hay, wrecking painstakingly stacked stone fences.[break][break]

Just because it can get away with it.[break][break]

Reaching down to pick a rock covered in rime, Eris takes careful aim and hits that frozen mane with a dull clatter.[break][break]

"You're a real brute, aren't you?"

Cass asks as she hurries up, wondering if she should use that chance to actually hop onto the horse ... and it only seems to be further enabled by her Froslass, as indeed, she got an idea. Ice Shards form below her feet, seemingly to nudge her upwards to be able to sit on the Glastrier. Cass surpresses her urge to swear as she's sent tumbling in flight as her Ghost pokémon looks at her with barely concealed glee. At least she has the mind not to actually chuckle, or the attention of the Glastrier might make this really uncertain.
