her roommates are all out of the house, but annalise remains in her room, in her bed, laying cramped beside the balled-up shape of her houndoom. a reality show hums from her television, but she's not really paying attention. she rolls on her side, purposefully nudging the hound hogging her bed with her knee, and scrolls through her phone. [break][break]a sudden sound downstairs startles them both.[break][break]no one else is supposed to be home. [break][break]her houndoom reacts faster, leaping over her and sliding across the hardwood towards her closed door, barking up a storm the whole time. she gets up, heart in her throat, and lets her houndoom loose. as she grabs the strap holding her pokeballs, she can hear its territorial fury change into a more anxious, high-pitched sound. [break][break]she comes down. she sees the delphox in her living room, then the blood — too much blood — following along grooves in the woodgrain. [break][break]and then she sees Greyson Connors . [break][break]she wants to scream, but nothing comes out. she doesn't remember crossing the room, but she's kneeling beside him, pale hands wet with his blood. her voice returns, sharp with panic, and she tells her houndoom to shut the fuck up and go upstairs. [break][break]there's blood on her phone, her pokeballs, her pants as she wipes one of her hands on them to check his wrists for a comfey.[break][break]"wake up, greyson!"[break][break]an AQUA RING from her vaporeon spreads over his injuries, but it doesn't feel like enough. she's too afraid to get up, too afraid that if she takes her hand off his abdomen that he'll slip away. [break][break]"please."

Greyson flops onto the living room no more graceful than a fish out of water.

Refocusing her psychic-power to TELEPORT them here meant she had to drop the mentally created mesh around his wound, and, like the pressure built behind a dam, it gushes outwards.

All of his belonging still strewn on the floor as they were, Annalise would quickly find the Comfey's Pokéball to dim and unresponsive.

Delphox watches the woman with impassive eyes that seem to catch everything; Iron Valiant struggles to reorient itself with fried circuitry and metal frame that was bent and broken; an Aegislash lies dented and chipped, as unmoving as her trainer.

PSYCHIC energy washes over Annalise urging her to be calm and rational. If she couldn't get her emotions under control — Greyson was good as dead.

something else pushes its way into her mind, excising unnecessary thoughts and feelings before she can try to hold onto them. once she sees his comfey's pokeball, she abandons that effort and reaches for the belt of pokeballs laying on the floor beside her. only one of them is of any use to her, she thinks, feeling unnaturally calm now. she reaches for it. [break][break]her ceruledge's uncomfortable warmth prickles against her back as it appears. the living room is growing more cramped by the second, but that discomfort is plucked from her skull before it has the chance to take root. [break][break]"milotic," the command is half-formed as it rolls off her tongue, but the ghost-type seems to understand where words fail. a bubbling portal opens up beneath it, spitting out a pokeball that cracks open once it hits the ground. furniture scrapes against the floor and shelves rattle as the long serpent spills out into the hall. [break][break]her ceruledge slips into shadow as the milotic draws itself up beside annalise. a second AQUA RING is inlaid over the first, slipping beneath the hands pressed firmly against the cut carved along his stomach. then, glowing LIFE DEW, seeping between the cracks of her fingers. [break][break]

Skin knits slowly back together. It was like play-doh being molded together into one entity, only a hundred times worst.

After a few minutes of dedicated attention, Delphox huffs smoke from her maw. The haughty fox was clearly frustrated about something.

With a snap of her fingers, it became clear what that was.

Consciousness is violently thrust upon him as the pain and delirium hitting all at once. Slowly the fire-type's influence recedes, but the agony only worsens.

He cries out, a wail that would call his position as a member of the Elite Four into question.

Violet hues are aimless in their search. Still, something blond-haired and blurry sticks out to him.

A blood-stained smile meets her.

"You came."

annalise startles as Greyson Connors is given consciousness with a snap of the delphox's fingers, flinching away as he screams in pain. she's never seen him like this. she's never heard him like this. [break][break]his eyes open, searching but not quite seeing. eventually they settle on her and he smiles despite his condition. she smiles back, but her returning panic is barely concealed beneath the expression.[break][break] he doesn't know where he is. [break][break]"of course." she wipes her hand on her clothes again and leans over to smooth his hair. there's tenderness to the gesture, to the caress of his cheek beneath her thumb. it's an affection their relationship has been bereft of, returning in his eleventh hour. "i'll always come." [break][break]her smile wavers. she feels a lump forming in her throat, but she doesn't want to burst into tears and scare him. she swallows hard, composes herself without the aid of psychic this time.[break][break]"i know it hurts but you have to stay awake. what did this to you?"[break][break]when she first saw his wounds, she thought he had been gored by a pokemon, but the disarray his pokemon are in makes her suspect it's something else.

Beneath the haze of delirium, pain throbs with the intensity of a supernova. It pulses, shooting waves of agony through his abdomen; half from the injury itself, and half from the healing of a technique not suited for such a large wound.

Not even the adrenaline coursing through his body, intensifying slightly with each new wave, was enough to numb it completely.

Every muscle in his body spammed and twitched beneath a pain unlike other.

"Necr- Fuck. Agh." He takes a moment to compose himself, breath coming heavy and as controlled as he could. "Necrozma."

He moans beneath the words that slip from his teeth, each syllable weighed against a slipping will.

her brows furrow as Greyson Connors gets caught on the first syllable. she can see how great of a struggle it is to get the words out, but she needs him to be distracted and conscious and in pain because the alternative is death. her pokemon continue to work in tandem, draping him with ribbons of healing energy. [break][break]as he finally gets his thoughts out, her chesnaught's pokeball is spat out of the void. her house feels like its closing in around them. [break][break]"necrozma?" [break][break]the grass-type appears and uses PAIN SPLIT. with a pained sound, chesnaught collapses onto one knee. [break][break]"are you trying to get yourself killed?"[break][break] the question is high and sharp and accusatory, anger born from the shrillness of fear.

The PAIN SPLIT sends a jolt through his entire body — like a shot of adrenaline straight to the heart, his eyes widen, and his breathing becomes less labored.

He offers the grass-type an appreciative half-nod.

"I didn't—" The thought comes out fuzzy, a side-effect of the extended period of light headedness. "—It came looking for me. It's Avatar."

Her question is a sound one - why hadn't he run? The implication he needed to, however?

That burned him more than the hole in his stomach.

Pain makes way to anger, and even though a little voice in the back of his mind urges him to think rationally, he can't.

"He ambushed me." He says through gritted teeth.

But more than that..

"The Elite Four don't retreat."

They were supposed to be the League's strongest fighters after all.

"I can! I—" The words are drowned in blood, fear, and uncertainty.

"—I should be able to."

He was a member of the Elite Four. A professional trainer. Greyson was supposed to be a Pillar the League could rely on.

So why can't I?

He raises his hand, steeling himself even as his body wants nothing more than to tremble violently. His thumb caresses her cheek, and his anger flees in the face of her fear.

"I'm sorry I scared you." He loses himself in this moment, letting it stretch. Greyson knew what he needed to do. "I'm sorry I dragged you into this, too."

Grunting, he moves to push himself to his feet.

She calls him to wait and the words make his heart ache more than he'd ever admit.

How long has he waited to hear those words from her lips?

Only now it was too late.

Greyson presses a hand to hers now. His fingers are callused, but soft, and so too is the smile.

"I can't." The pain was a distant ache in the back of his mind, but he was still far from healed. "I have more Comfey at my chamber. And—" He blinks, lids heavy. "—I need to report this to the League."
