Two stacks of medical supplies are carefully placed into boxes in the kitchen. Some of Cillian Quinn's pokemon had been teleporting stuff like this in all day, which was fine. It gave Tempest some busy work to feel helpful on the rare day off of missions. Airtight containers were carefully labeled in his blocky writing, things sorted into piles for easy finding when it might be needed. Other than a few canned goods, this did seem to be the last of it for the moment, though.[break][break]

Picking up a stack of the boxes in his arms, Tempest carefully made his way downstairs to deliver them to Cillian. The hidden lab's once-pristine table was littered with similar boxes and a few knick-knacks. There were shelves to be lined.[break][break]

"This is the last of them for now." He says, pleased, as he places the boxes with the rest. Walking over to his husband, Tempest steals a quick peck on the cheek before looking over the sorting system that Cillian had started down here. Seeing an empty spot, he starts to work on assisting down here as well.[break][break]

War was coming. One could never be too careful.

Cillian has never felt more like a doomsday prepper than when he's standing in the bunker of his hidden laboratory, sorting boxes of supplies onto metal shelves already stocked with the same.[break][break]

Of course, his Pokemon are doing most of the work. Where Cillian points, his Sylveon maneuvers heavy boxes with TELEKINETIC power. A Beheeyem ordinarily reserved for psychological torture and memory manipulation in Rocket's employ performs the far more mundane task of TELEPORTING those boxes from upstairs, where Tempest Quinn has been loading and labelling.[break][break]

When the boxes stop coming, Cillian knows they're near the end.[break][break]

Temp delivers the last stack in person, and Cillian too pauses in his work to lean into the kiss and return the affection.[break][break]

His Pokémon are dismissed. They'd sort the last of it themselves.[break][break]

"Would've killed for this kind of prep in Kanto," he remarks drily, slotting a box labelled STATUS CURES into an empty spot between REVIVES and HEALING.

Cillian Quinn works in the medicine, Tempest works in the food. A box of canned veggies is stacked next to canned fruits and potted meats and hard tack bread. None of it would taste good. Taste would be the least of their worries when the war effort started and everything came to pass.[break][break]

"Really? You didn't have more time before?"[break][break]

Curiosity colors his tone, head tilted slightly for Cillian to continue when the question is posed. It made sense in Tempest's mind to ask; the assault on Kanto had been a surprise. He would have assumed that Rocket had months, years even, to hoard supplies before the big shebang.[break][break]

... at the same time, many of the stories that Tempest had gotten from that time (like pulled teeth, every time) had seemed unstable.

Several of the crates of medical supplies had come from a heist he'd pulled with Frank Caffey not long ago; though it hadn't gone as smoothly as they'd hoped, they'd gotten their payout in the end.[break][break]

"I'm sure they did," he shrugs, hauling another box — this one labelled SURGICAL — into place. "I didn't. I was just a grunt back then, remember."[break][break]

Worthless to Rocket in the grand scheme of things. Expendable. Not worthy of whatever precious supplies they might've stocked up before their violent assault of the region. He'd treated his injuries at home.[break][break]

And would again if it came to that, in a funny twist of fate, but this time with proper surgical supplies and perhaps the aid of an actual doctor such as caden maher or marcus kotov.[break][break]

He steps back, giving sore muscles a brief rest as he admires their handiwork.[break][break]

"With luck, Sootopolis has enough supplies stored up for everyone, but these are for the brass. I don't want everyone in Rocket knowing exactly where to go if they want an attempt on my life."[break][break]

His smile is dry, the humour grim but honest.

Most of the food had come from a mission with Adrian Malcolm; what they hadb't been able to store here had gone directly to the Submarine. Bless crazy old preppers who were easy to steal from.[break][break]

"It's hard to think of you as anything other than an Underboss." Tempest confessed. Their friendship had started well before Cillian had that rise in promotion. But Cillian had stepped into it, in Temp's eyes, so naturally and gracefully. It was like the other man was meant for power, for control. It was part of what had made Temp so into Cillian in the first place. That outward confidence had been intoxicating.[break][break]

"It won't come to that." Is promised, as if Tempest has any say on the matter. He does know that any would-be assassins wouldn't come close enough for Cillian to even see them. Temp would have them ripped in two before even a hair on his husband's head was out of place.[break][break]

Finishing up with his set of the food boxes, Tempest walks behind the other. He makes sure his footsteps sound clearly on the Lab's tiles before reaching out to touch Cillian; a quick kiss pressed to the back of his neck before he sinks fingers and thumbs to knead at sore muscles. The impromptu massage is, honestly, a bit basic.[break][break]

"... what was it like?"[break][break]

Temp's voice is soft and almost hesitant. Kanto was something they didn't talk about often, Temp didn't push it, but there was a genuine curiosity there. A craving to know what was to come. But there was also room left in the space after the question, an understanding. A silent You don't have to talk about this left waiting.
