The decision to bring Temp made sense, but Howard didn't trust that the decision was made due to the underboss's love for his partner. Temp was a contingency. Even when Howard was less than a roach under Cillian's heel, the underboss did not give him an inch.

The implication was clear: Cillian did not trust him. That trust would never develop. There had been too honesty between the two, and the 'trust' between those exchanges had somehow curdled into suspicion. Only in Rocket could the truth be used as an example of disloyalty.

What did they expect him to do in order to gain a modicum of trust? How extreme would he have to be?

"Very well. I'll arrange the logistics and chart a proper path." Howard checked his watch. He could respect the desire for knowledge, even if Cillian's response was a noncommittal shrug at best. "Beast Quinn is a prudent choice."

Howard got to be the third wheel. Yippee.

"Am I dismissed?"
