Shalin and Sandy darted across the sands of Hoenn's great desert with the agility of a hummingbird, the Rustboro Captain hooting and hollering from within her SYGNA SUIT. JOLLY as could be, the INFINITY ENERGY flowing between the two let the Flygon break her normal limits, the two of them looking like one Flygon with how indistinguishable she was from her synced Pokémon. She had to get ready for war, but even Petalburg Woods was a bit too close for what she wanted to do. The Great Desert was vast enough that the enormous shockwaves from her wings at speed would not cause much disturbance. It was the perfect place to practice the ultimate synced technique the duo could unleash.

Shalin guided the Flygon to a rock formation a few feet off the desert's sandy surface. "Let's get warmed up, Sandy!" she chirped, sliding off the dragon-type's back and onto its insectile yet sturdy wing. Both of them glowed a faint green, the flow of Infinity Energy enabling the Flygon to support Shalin in this unusual way. "It's been a bit, so don't go too fast right away!" With a nod and a chirp of her own, Sandy's wings began to hum and vibrate, turning Shalin into a blur even at the relatively low frequency.

Little did she realize that some nasty winds were going to ravage the Great Desert sooner than forecast...

Ever since the recent eruption of Mt. Chimney in the central portion of the region, the drier, more arid areas of Hoenn had started to experience strange and even more violent weather patterns than normal. Sandstorms were becoming more rampant, even soot storms were taking place with the amount of ash that was unabashadely thrust into the air. It was no wonder that it was imperetive to get readings on some of the most afflicted areas.[break][break]
Wearing long, light clothes to avoid the biting sand and beating sun, a head covering, and a scarf to put over her face just in case, Yuina trudged through the desert of Hoenn with Delton in his Ground Tera form. The owl was adept and lithe, his quick movement would prove well here if necessary, and his tera form allowed for him to be in the harsh environnment without too much damage.[break]
Yuina was tending to a weather instrument, taking readings of the surrounding area, already seeing a spike in the radar for a potential storm... But Delton brushed a wing at Yuina's side, something caught his keen senses. Was there something moving in the distance? Or was it just the heatwaves beating off of the desert sand?

Shalin and Sandy started to glow brighter as the pitch of the desert dragon's song grew. Their wake whipped up a whirlwind that turned into an intense but highly localized sandstorm, the rider's SYGNA SUIT protecting her from being sandblasted. It protected her from many other things, including vibration so fast that it would have reduced her to paste without her suit on.

"Alright, Sandy, I think I'm warmed up!" she cried, though in a voice so distorted by the vibrations that it was likely only the Sygna Flygon could hear her clearly. "Time to ride the BOOMBURST!"

Before she accelerated her wings to invisible speeds, the Flygon saw a Ranger doing work on a weather vane, a Hisuian Decidueye keeping a close eye on them both. Such an attack would put them in great peril! Rather than churn them at full speed, she brought them to a stop, easing Shalin away from the speed to save her energy for the second run-up later.

Were Yuina and her Pokémon to take a closer look, she might recognize the green-scaled suit. Shalin herself was far too dizzy and delirious to recognize anyone, coming down from the intense Infinity Energy high that came with riding on her Flygon's wing fluttering at furious rates...

Taking a look at the readings that were popping up on the radar, Yuina was noting the surge of energy, it definitely looked like a full on sandstorm was getting ready to form and was heading their way...[break]
But at Delton's sweep of his wing, looking up to a whirl of sand coming right towards them, it did begin to dissipate, revealing a Flygon, and a rider... A rider that she definitely did recognize.[break][break]
"Shalin? Hey, it's good to see you," Yuina remarked, recognizing the eccentric. It had been some time since last they saw each other, but they perhaps weren't in the best spot to catch up...

Once she recovered meaningful feeling in her limbs, Shalin slid down from Sandy's wing, giving the Flygon a big hug. It did not take long for the sandstorm surrounding them to subside, though their reprieve would not be long. A natural, much larger one was on the horizon. Even so, they would have some time to socialize -- and more importantly, prepare.

"Yuina! Long time no see!" the Captain greeted her Ranger co-worker, still somewhat woozy from being shaken around so rapidly. "What brings you out here? I got a citation for practicing with Sandy's Boomburst even from my home in the woods. Apparently it's too close to Rustboro that I can't make that kind of noise before I go to work." She still had the weekend and other days off where the noise ordinance would not be in effect. Even so, how embarrassing for a Captain to be hit with a violation like that. Noise pollution was still a form of pollution, after all!

Shifting his talons in the sand, Delton looked out from beneath the brim of his hat at the two that came down from the air, glittering still in his ground tera. Yuina smiled though, lifting the brim of her own hat a bit higher as Shalin moved forward with her enthused greeting.[break][break]
"A noise citation? I guess I never considered that much... It's too bad there isn't an airfield around here for you to take advantage of," Yuina returned, Hoenn wasn't much in the way of air transport, not like other regions that had much larger air bases with airplanes and such. Sea travel was much more where the region maintained its expertise.[break][break]
"We're getting some readings for the recent weather patterns that have changed due to the Mt. Chimney eruption," she answered, holding out the different pieces of equipment that she was keeping an eye on.

It was disappointing for Shalin, too; she preferred to practice at her sanctuary at Petalburg Plateau. The forest was not large, running between Petalburg and Rustboro, and they were not small cities, either. "A Flygon's Boomburst is actually... really loud. Deafeningly so. From what I understand, they vibrate their wings so fast that their wingtips break the sound barrier. So it's not just one sonic boom, but an entire layer of them on top of one another." And she was riding on the wing while it was going that fast?

Sygna Suits really were something else, weren't they?

That's right - volcanic eruptions could change local, regional, and even global weather if the volume of ejecta was great enough. "No wonder you're an Elite," Shalin continued. "You're so smart. If this eruption was really big, it might cover more than just the Silent Icelands in ice."

A short burst of wing speed from Sandy reversed a gust of wind headed toward the two Rangers. "You need a hand with any of it? If not, I think I want to go for one more wing run on Sandy before the weather gets too nasty."

Oh, then it was no wonder why Shalin and her Pokemon had received a noise citation... If that was the science behind what their bodies did in emitting the attack, Flygon would in fact be deafeningly loud, and not super great to have around residential areas...[break]
"Oh, wow... I mean, I get why that would be loud enough for a citation... That's pretty powerful," Yuina returned, she couldn't exactly blame either side too terribly much.[break][break]
Yuina looked down to the equipment she held at Shalin's words, a kind compliment to pay. Yuina smiled a bit, she wasn't a captain like Shalin was, but that was very nice of her to say.[break]
"Thank you... I'm just trying to do my part. 'Storm chasing' has kind of become a secondary study for me," Yuina nodded.[break][break]
"Actually, help would be great. We're trying to get a couple more readings before the storm comes in. The radars show we're expecting a pretty heavy sandstorm incoming," she mentioned, turning and looking out to a specific direction. The dust was already pluming in the distance...[break]
"That's it out there already, it's forming and getting stronger moving across the sand. Your flygon is better suited to get up to a good altitude in the desert, think you can fly up and let these radars get some readings before the storm gets too close?"

There was a lot that science could explain. Even something as supernatural-sounding as wings that beat that fast had been explained through meticulous studies. What science couldn't explain, though, was how Shalin could survive being shaken that fast. Such was the power of a Sygna Suit. "Just like how I chase Space-Time Distortions for Pokémon way bigger than normal," the girl smiled back, thinking of all the Pokémon she had captured from them.

It seemed Shalin could be of help, after all. "Sure, Sandy and I can help you get the radar calibrated!" she answered with a smile that was way too big for the task she had been asked to do. "Good enough of an excuse as ever to go on one more wing run with her." Reciprocating Shalin's smile, the Flygon lowered her wing for her trainer to hop onto, both dragon and Ranger faintly glowing green with Infinity Energy. Yuina would be able to get a good look at her friend somehow balancing on the wing before she disappeared into a streak of greens and reds. The daring duo circled the radar fixture, her wings making engine-revving noises when making adjustments to keep Shalin as upright as possible. A heavily distorted whoop echoed around them as the vibrations rocked her.

Relinquishing some devices to Shalin, Yuina took a step back and took up another couple of screens that would take in the data from the Radars she handed off.[break]
"Great, thanks. We should hurry though, we don't want to get caught in the storm...," Yuina thanked, keeping close to Delton as the Decidueye brought up a wing to shield Yuina from the sand sprays of the flygon's wings lifting off from the ground.[break][break]
Sure enough, readings began to ping on the couple of screens that she was monitoring, air density, air quality, wind velocities, and much more. Shalin was doing great work at gaining most of the remaining data Yuina might have needed before getting out of the desert, except... One of the monitors that had began to beep, an alert, the storm's path had changed drastically, unpredictable conditions began to add into the ferosity of it... Sands began to whip around Yuina already, it was closer than it had been and was only gaining speed.[break][break]
"Shalin! Shalin we need to go now!"
