it had been some time since she’d gone into the ultra deep sea. the belly of eternatus, they said it was now. gross to think about, yet it still drew her in with a sense of wonder.[break][break]

"Beautiful..?" he repeats after Nina, taking a closer look around their surroundings. observing the bioluminescent plants as the lit up the pulsating walls, he did in a sense find the flickering lights to be beautiful; they reminded him of the stars he saw back in Sootpolis. "It's more unsettling if you ask me." Asriel dismisses Nina's description by shaking his head, beauty is fleeting.

guided by the glowing plants, Asriel begins to walk down on of the tunnels. The pulsating was noticeably quicker and stronger compared to the entrance. Initally he was skeptical about Ultra Deep Sea being the belly of eternatus, but without the theory it was difficult to explain the current phenomenon they were witnessing.

He looked back towards Nina when mentioned ballonea. "Ballonea.. where is that exactly?" Outside Kanto and Hoenn, Asriel did not have a good sense of the world. "never been outside of hoenn" he keeps his kanto background private, finding no reason to share that information with Nina.

she didn’t question his lie; didn’t detect it. she returned it with one of her own, ”me either.” although it was close enough to the truth that it might as well have been. she’d been born far away, but she didn’t remember, no matter how hard she tried.[break][break]

”maybe one day, right?” she could only imagine that anyone who’d been stuck in the same place forever would desire to see the world, at least for a little while.[break][break]

Nina described Ballonea with vivid imagery. It made him believe that she had gone and visited it firsthand, but that wasn't the case. "That's surprising, you strike me as the type of person who travels around quite a bit." he responds to her follow up question with a nonchalant shrug; personally having no such desire to explore other regions outside of hoenn.

Asriel keeps an eye out for potential danger as they continue to venture deeper into the abyss. Looking over at Nina with a puzzled expression when she mentioned a voice out of the blue.

"A voice..?" Asriel repeats his tone heavy with skepticism, "I don't know what you're talking about it's been dead silent." he takes a moment to truly try and listen to hear their surroundings, "yeah no voice." He confirms to her with certainty.

”nina,” a voice called again. "asriel", she imagined it might call to him too, but he said he didn’t hear it. she looked towards her partner, as though to try and detect the truth. when she decided he wasn’t messing with her, she faced onward again.[break][break]

”hm. this place talks. maybe you’ll hear it, the deeper we go. it’s all in your head, though. remember that.”[break][break]

dark grew darker, a pool of shadow ahead of them. she didn’t stop at the trench’s steep edge. both she and her fox stepped off it casually, in a way that might be alarming to anyone not familiar with the realm. however, instead of plummeting violently, they floated gently downward into the abyss as though it were water.[break][break]

she assumed asriel would follow.[break][break]
