The news was... Devastating to say the least. It was likely to rock the entire region, and change everything about what was going to happen going forward. Yuina had only met Kyle a handful of times, she would be hard pressed to say that she knew him and felt his loss as heavily as those who were truly mourning him... But it was difficult still, knowing that he was gone, knowing that someone she had known before was gone...[break]
Had she ever experienced loss before in her past?[break][break]
Search parties were sanctioned with any available individuals at every point, no stone left unturned, if there was even a chance that he was still out there because his body had not been recovered... There was still a possible chance, right?[break]
Yuina looked up from Kano's muzzle, holding the Arcanine's maw in her hands, finding Greyson Connors coming up the hill. She hadn't even know then who he was, when he found her on the beach, trying to work with Tahlos to mega evolve. Only recently had she come to realize that he was a part of the Elite Four for the region. Kyle's death must be a heavy toll to bear...

Letting Kano's muzzle up from her hands, watching the canine sniff at the Corviknight that perched off to the side, Yuina looked out to Greyson as he approached.[break][break]
"Yeah, that's right," Yuina returned, standing up right.[break]
And then a pause... What could she say? It would be nice to see him again, under better circumstances... Condolences? But that would be insulting, given how little she did know Kyle... Would it be insensitive to just get going into their assigned portion of the mountains?[break][break]
"Uhm, we found a sort of path that we can use to start making our way up the mountain? Unless you wanted to split up with our Pokemon to cover more ground..."

"Let's move together—this place has become more dangerous since Groudon's rampage, and I'd rather not tempt fate."

Releasing a sharp whistle, Corviknight takes off to the sound of windchimes, disappearing over the brush.

"Z will watch our backs just in-case." His small smile returns. "How've you been?"

He had a fair point, the environmental shifts that were taking place all over the central portion of the region were rampant. Pokemon were agitated, parts of the mountain were likely unstable, so move together it was.[break][break]
Yuina watched the Corviknight take to the air, something to watch their backs, which meant that Kano could scout ahead. She looked to the Arcanine and nodded to send the canine forward. With a bark the fire type padded off along the mountain side, keeping his senses keen and sharp for anything amiss.[break][break]
"Alright, I suppose. Definitely better off now than I was on that beach," she returned, did she ask the question back? It seemed inconsiderate... Not only was she unsure of if she had ever dealt with the grief of loss before... She didn't quite exactly know how to interact with someone who was definitely going through a loss...[break]

"I didn't know him well. His head doesn't swivel to address her—it stays focused on what's in-front of them, rigid, unmoving. "His death is a huge blow to the League, but everyone should plan not to return home once they step on the battlefield. So, don't stress it, yeah?"

He doesn't point out that it wasn't a real battlefield he'd walked out on that day but one of the League's own making.

It's neither relief or the burden of more weight as Greyson speaks up, but perhaps clarity would do for now. She might have been assuming, mostly due to Greyson's position as an elite four member.[break][break]
"Yeah... the fine print of getting involved," Yuina returned, she knew it already, but her mention only came with understanding, acceptance. She'd made her peace with the notion after narrowly surviving the clash on that resurfaced island.[break][break]

Over a year but not that long... Yuina supposed that in the grand scheme of things, given all that's happened only in the less than a year she had been around and everything that went in to being a part of the elite four, a year could feel like barely a percentage of work done.[break][break]
"My end goal," she repeated, the question sounded strange, the idea foreign... She only had less than a year of a 'life' thus far, to be thinking of an end... it felt wrong to consider...[break][break]
"I'm, uh, I guess I'm not sure yet...," she returned, she still needed to know who all of herself was, didn't she?[break]
"I'm still figuring things out in a way, but I'm getting involved in more things. I'm working with Melody Miro on the H.O.M.E project. Maybe I might take some steps into the Amnesty Program...," she wondered aloud, she didn't turn to look at him, but she hadn't been able to stop mulling over what CIAN MAHER had mentioned...

She could hear it... And it was enough, knowing what she might have been expecting after Cian had mentioned his name before... How many other league officials truly felt that way about the idea of the amnesty program, or the idea that those with a 'past' were sanctioned amongst them?[break][break]
"Well, it's lead by the ranger organization mostly, isn't it? I could look to get involved there too with Pokemon H.O.M.E to help Melody and Ollie. I don't know what my true end goal is, but anything I can do to build my career with the rangers is something I can look at," she mentioned, an easy segue.

Continuing on their path along the mountain side, Yuina glanced out to Kano who sniffed at the air for a moment before heading off down the way to scout ahead. She kept her focus on him for a moment, working to push away her own bitterness at the information she'd just gleaned. It was hard to determine what she was more upset about, the fact that all of her work up to this point could be dashed if she did have a past that she couldn't absolve, or that someone like CIAN MAHER who worked so hard could still be looked down on...[break][break]
"Ambition is a necessary requirement for what we do I think," Yuina returned, her gaze still off in a distance before she blinked down, careful of a set of rocks that jostled on the ground a bit with her steps.[break]
"Thanks... I might approach Melody and Ollie about it myself though. I should show the ambition for wanting to be a part of the program, right," she offered, a fair point, but... at this juncture, she wasn't sure that she wanted someone like Greyson advocating for her... How quick would that turn around, if she did find that she had an undesirable past that he, and others, didn't approve of?

But, he wasn't going to explain himself against whatever preconceived notions she might've had about him. In-truth, he wished no one shared his view—such a thing was often forged through pain and loss, after all.

"That makes sense. Yeah." He lets the topic drop, knowing full well that pushing something like this would only paint him in a negative light.

"But, I'm not sure I agree with your view on ambition. If you think about it, how many people do you know are content with where they are? Not that it's a bad thing, really."
